Official Cornell Transfer 2011

I think that, in general, adcoms will look more to your post-secondary record than your HS record as a junior transfer. That tends to be especially true if you have some compelling story or another or are an especially good writer.

Stats aren’t the be-all and end-all by any means. I bet I got in on strength of essays (especially 'cause of my not-so-great first semester GPA). Like I said, it’s a crapshoot so you should try not to worry too much about it.

I called admissions this morning, and they asked me to send them my College Official form, I did. Then, I called back, and the person who I talked to was exceedingly courteous. She told me " you seem to be a very strong applicant, best of luck." Although it does not mean anything towards my admission decision, It made my day. =) I can study for Mid-terms in peace.

Thanks for the vote of confidence weezyf.

That is awesome harvardhop! Only a few more weeks guys/gals!

Eek Bullmarket I didn’t mean to come off as so morose about the crapshootyness. I just hope that you (and everyone else on these forums) don’t view admission as confirmation or repudiation of your self-worth 'cause so many disparate factors play into who gets accepted and who does not.

Good stuff, Harvardhop! I told you they didn’t bite :p

haha, no I didn’t mean it in a bad way weezyf. Do guys think we can find out online, or is only through snail mail?

I recall from last go-around that CAS only sent snail mail.

So, I had my school send my Official form today! I feel good. They told me Cornell should receive it by monday, right on!

I’m glad its snail mail…I would hate to be rejected/accepted via email.

However, question for Weezy, was your GT a package? or a letter?

wow… I didn’t realize there is already a thread, with a lot of posts too! Good luck everyone :)

@Harvardhop

They mailed me my offer about 2 months after I filed my application (5/17 having submitted on 3/15) but they told me over the phone on 5/6. It was a small envelope but had two forms in it.

@Weezy: Interesting. Your situation is different, because of GT, but I wonder about ‘others.’ I think it is cool that Cornell has GT admission.

@fri3nds04: SInce your CC location says Ithaca, I suppose you are a Cornell student?

@harvardhop: yes! feel free to drop any question! of course you can post to Cornell’s folder too :)

I’m looking at you |-), HARVARDhop :stuck_out_tongue: jk…

fri3nds04: Thanks…?

I have a question, hopefully someone here knows the answer. I just applied to transfer to Cornell, but because I’m past the deadline I had to mail the application. To get it there faster, and because the post office was closed when I went, I shipped the application through UPS, but I realized the address was a PO box so now I’m not sure if it will get there. Does anyone know if UPS has a way of getting the application to the transfer admissions office? I emailed admissions, but I doubt they’ll get back to me before Monday, and if it won’t work I’d like to take the application to class with me so I can USPS overnight it Monday morning. Thanks.

What I don’t get from your question is:

Why would you still mail it if the deadline already passed? And which address did you send it to? Somehow I don’t remember sending anything to Cornell with PO Box address.

@witchdoctor I also overnighted something to Cornell. I called the school and they told me to send it directly to CAS. PM me and I can give you the address.

All this being said however, I sent this stuff before the deadline. Maybe you might want to call the school and ask if there’s a better place to send it.

Also, did you at least turn in your application on Common App? I think as long as they receive your application by the deadline and they receive the other materials in a timely manner, I think they’ll still consider your application.

Also, the UPS people should have told you that they don’t typically deliver to P.O. Boxes, that was pretty bad customer service. I’m sorry about that. Maybe try FedEx?

I was looking at some schools to transfer to, and came across Cornell’s School for Hotel Administration. The college seems really great, and even offers a concentration in financing, accounting, and real estate, not to mention a real estate minor. Real esate is something that I find really interesting and could see myself eventually making into a career. ( I know the market isn’t great right now) Would that be a good enough reason to tranfer into the school, even though it is for hotel administration?

I spoke to admissions, they gave me permission to send the application late, as long as it gets there by the beginning of this week. I sent it here Transfer Admissions, Cornell University, P.O. Box 6411, Ithaca, NY 14851-6411. That’s the address they have on their site.
Thanks for offering the address, but I didn’t apply for CAS. Maybe I’ll see if there’s a way to get the UPS package turned around and send it USPS Monday since admissions might get back to me too late. The only thing I’m really concerned with is that if I don’t turn the other package around I’d be sending them two checks.

I’m glad things worked out! Cornell admissions seem really understanding. I was having trouble with my Instructor Evaluation (I think USPS lost it) and they were pretty lenient about resending it.

@surfwakesnow165, do you have any experience in the hospitality industry?

Hey guys, I have a GT to CALS AEM and was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat!
Anyone know when decisions would likely be coming out?
