Official Cornell Transfer 2011

Thank you!

-Harvardhop

leebruce, I’m actually applying for Fall 2011, didn’t realize this was a Spring thread until its too late, so now I mostly just lurk in the back :p

@CrownOftheSea

Oh i see haha well good luck with Fall 2011! Ill give you a heads up when decisions come out!

Are there any other future hotelies in this thread? =)
Harvardhop, were you required to have an interview by any chance?

@CrownOftheSea

I am applying for Fall 2011 too. What college are you applying to?

I think only Hotelies have interviews. So, no I didn’t. I wish I did.

@leebuce, yes please let me know if you get in!

@lavender19, I’m applying to the Hotel School

thanks lavendar19 and tallfrodo!
i really do wish the best of luck to you all!
and what are the prerequisites, might i ask? i’m currently a chemistry major, so im not exactly too sure what the prereqs are for

and wow lavendar19 i admire u…two jobs and a heavy course load
its safe to say, i wouldve gone insane

@kevlar

I dont think CALS has a chem major

@tallfrodo
my mistakes, i phrased that horribly wrong
i applied to cals as a biology major, and currently, im a chemistry major
i wanted to kno what are the prereqs for biology in cornell

@kevlar

For transfers entering as sophomores (two full-time college semesters completed or in progress at time of application, approximately 30 credit hours):

-One full academic year of Introductory Biology with labs - AP, IB & GCE credit in Biology not accepted
-Two College Writing/English Composition courses or one writing/composition and Public Speaking
-Chemistry I & II with labs
-Calculus I and either Calculus II or Statistics

For transfers entering as juniors (three or four full-time college semesters completed or in progress at time of application, up to 60 credit hours):

-One full academic year of Introductory Biology with labs - AP, IB & GCE credit in Biology not accepted
-Two College Writing/English Composition courses or one writing/composition and Public Speaking
-Chemistry I & II
-Calculus I and either Calculus II or Statistics
-Organic Chemistry I & II
-Physics I & II
-Recommended: Courses that meet the CALS Social science and humanities requirements

This info is in the CALS transfer admission website.

**you should have valid reasons for transferring to CALS bio instead of CAS bio. I think the simplest reason would be if you are a NY resident, the tuition is cheaper.

oh sh!%
i just realized that i have not finished a full year of introductory bio…
i only took biology 1 in my school and since biology 2 was full, i was forced to take orgo 1
now im taking orgo 2 with orgo lab, but the thing is i fulfill ALL the other requirements (for sophomore transfer) EXCEPT for that missing semester of biology…
how royally screwed am i…?

@ kevlar

I think not having a bio will hurt you a lot in this case since not only is it a pre-req course, but also directly related to your major.

I would contact admissions explaining why you couldn’t take bio 2, and that you are planning to take it in the winter, before enrolling in cornell if you are accepted.

I think that in order to be competitive, you need the courses in progress or completed at the time of admission. That’s what actually happened to me when I was applying last year: I did not have Stats, BIO I and II completed at the time of the application for Fall 2010–and I emailed admissions about my rejection and told me that it was bc I did not fulfill the requirements and at the info session the rep mentioned that having most of the pre-reqs finished would be advantageous.

Just the thought that decisions are almost out makes me ginkle.

does anybody actually know like the “exact” date? I mean they told me to call back Nov 15th if I don’t hear word, but I’m really freaked out and need an answer–hopefully the good kind lol

@Boardingkid

There will not be an exact date, but the decision will be out starting from november 1st on a rolling basis(I called today CALS).

@boardingkid
so yeah, some people will know ahead of others. It also says on the Cornell website that some decisions may be delayed to December, depending on when you turned in your application materials. Oh and are we really really allowed to ask admissions why we got rejected? haha :P

@everyone
Have all of you guys turned in your mid-term reports yet?? Mine might be a little late =(
