OFFICIAL Deferred Class of 2017

We will receive some decisions by the end of the week. My GC got an email.

^So it begins

IT BEGINS.

I could really use a decision by the end of the week, it’s finals week for us and the stress is killing me! ;_;

I’m scared :frowning: I sent an additional letter of recommendation too

Wow that’s almost identical to mine, literally almost to the T.
I am:
3.5 GPA
32 ACT
3 years football
4 years baseball
4 years marching band
4 APs
NHS
Student Senate

@ottawa Yep, me too

3.5 GPA
32 ACT
4 years hockey (not for school but I doubt that matters), captain for 1
2 years soccer
NHS
Various service
2 years competitive speech
5 APs

Hopefully there’s more our type on the right side of the cutoff, haha

I think we’re not the worst applicants and I believe that depending on the school and in state or out of state we could be looking decent.

I certainly hope so. FWIW, I’m at a private in-state institution. I have no idea how regarded it is by the university; I’d say it sends 15-30 (out of 200) a year to Michigan, at least based on last year’s class. But who knows, I’ve never been able to find anything in terms of school rank when it comes to my school.

What school did you apply to?

Wolverine Access is not working for me and it was yesterday…makes me think something is going to happen friday.

What I want to know is at what point is Michigan considered a safety school? (What GPA, Test Scores, ECs, etc.)

Or is it like the Ivies where its NEVER considered a safety?

I have a 3.75 and a 30 ACT. lots of ec’s, 4 full years of 2 varsity sports, community service, 5 AP classes total. NHS. Deferred though. I think I’'ll get in. I’ve seen less get in millions of times. You’ll all be fine. Calm down haha. In my school last year, I know 4 personally that were deferred at first and then got in, and there must have been a few more. They were LSA, CoE however is defientely more competitive, and you’ll need higher stats if you want to get in.

And U of M CAN be considered a safety if you have like a 3.8 or higher AND 31 or higher and good ec’s and such… in my opinion. Any less, then you shouldn’t consider it a safety.

“And U of M CAN be considered a safety if you have like a 3.8 or higher AND 31 or higher and good ec’s and such… in my opinion.”

Maybe a few years ago, but not anymore. For an OOS applicant, those are just match numbers.

I feel like unless you know you’re a shoe-in for ivies and the like, UMich should never be considered a safety. As @rjkofnovi said, maybe a few years ago it would have been easy to call it a safety, but admissions are tougher now more than ever.

That’s true I suppose. I’m in state, so I can only go by what I’ve seen personally. Kids in state are getting in with 26’s… I repeat, 26’s. I don’t understand.

“That’s true I suppose. I’m in state, so I can only go by what I’ve seen personally. Kids in state are getting in with 26’s… I repeat, 26’s. I don’t understand.”

Approximately 10% of acceptances are from applicants with ACT scores of 26 and lower. Remember, Michigan admissions prides themselves on their holistic admissions process. The ACT is only one factor that’s considered, and it’s certainly not the most important.

Chances? I have a 4.05 with 7 ap classes and 7 honors… Sent in first semester grades and had a 4.4 and editor of yearbook, NHS, varsity sports. In state in highly regarded public school

I seriously do not understand why a major university needs 7 months to decide if my daughter should be admitted or not. At this point, I have paid the application fee and feel she deserves an answer either way. If she is not admittance material, for crying out loud, just let her know. I can’t help but feel that their admissions department must be incompetent.

Also got deferred letter #1

Hard to consider Michigan a “safe” school with any GPA or test scores. I was deferred with a 4.4 and 35 ACT, along with 4 years lacrosse, 4 years personal tutoring, and NHS
