@professionalmom Michigan aint the only one that does that tho. many people are deferred EA/ED and have to wait another 3 months for their RD/RA decisions. i guess the fact that Michigan is rolling makes it harder to wait…

It’s crazy, my girlfriend got accepted EA last year with 26 ACT 3.9 GPA but then again she had great letters of rec, essays, president of NHS, and so on. It really is holistic.

Perhaps you just don’t know how the system works?

Unless the university she applied to is rolling (and although Mich is listed as rolling, it is not rolling in the strict definition of the term), it is not uncommon for her to not have heard a decision yet. It doesn’t matter how early she sent in her app, decisions are released in batches and the first RD batch simply hasn’t been released yet. They are probably finished reviewing your daughter’s application, they just can’t send it out yet. It’s nothing personal - that’s just the way things work. Furthermore, she may not even receive a decision in the first batch. I hypothesize that Michigan isn’t completely done reviewing all the apps, therefore they don’t know the complete strength of the applicant pool they are dealing with. If your daughter is a border line applicant then the admissions people may want to hold her decision to the end to see how she stacks up against the remaning applicants. The admissions team is far from incompetent, it just isn’t easy to deal with 45,000 applications.

I soooooo agree with you the whole system of these schools is so archaic ,especially now when technology is up to snuff. i cant for the life of me understand why it is the equivilent of root canal surgery. I mean give me a break ,with the tuition costs the way they are you’d think they would have the funding to beef up their staff !

Ouch. If you don’t get in, I don’t know WHO they’ll take!

I understand perfectly how the system works. I feel that these colleges string students along. I have not heard of one rejection as of yet and I can’t believe that the admissions office can’t eliminate a portion of the applicants. I agree with OrangeWhite22 that in this day and age I would expect better results. If a college has been admitting students for over 100 years, I have a hard time believing that they can not streamline the process at a “top-notch” university.

Admitted or rejected, I just want to know so I can move on with my life.

I haven’t chimed in on this yet but I can’t help myself. I agree that they should cut some of these kids loose. My daughter is waiting and we need to visit some other schools if she isn’t admitted. The school has identified themselves as rolling. If that is the case, then ROLL! These kids would like to know one way or
another. On the other hand, please know this: if you don’t get into Michigan, even if it’s where you always wanted to go and it’s your dream school and all of your family members went there and you bleed maize and blue…you will be happy elsewhere. It’s just the plain truth. You may even be surprised at how things turn out. Generally, people end up where they belong. I’m not just saying that. I’ve lived it and seen it with my own eyes. This seems like the most important thing right now, but it will work out for all of you. While you refresh your email and WA all day, try to keep in mind that your future success does not hang in the balance. It’s what you do, not where you go.

Couldn’t agree more ^^

I think that the Admissions Office was overwhelmed with 22,000 EA applications (up 3,000 from 2011). The Michigan Daily reported that of those who didnt get acceptances, there were more deferrals than denials. Assuming total 50,000 applicants at $45/ea application fee for a total of about $2 million in application fees alone, U Mich can certainly afford additional personnel to review these materials. Even if they are overwhelmed, why should these EA applicants who are showing additional interest and getting the application in early now just get thrown in with the Regulars and made to feel as if their applications really arent first level of review-worthy? Why not simply say: We were overwhelmed with an unprecedented number of EA applicants. We are extending our EA response time to end of January. If you are a regular applicant, you have additional time to get your application in as we give an appropriate review to our EA applicant pool. Just saying.

I’d review 'em all myself for half that (in cash). ;>}

Mkay regardless of anything. I just want the decision already. We can all speculate… they need to release them like today… waiting is stressful.

I’m a bit surprised by all the complaining about the wait for a decision. This happens at many colleges across the U.S., not just Michigan, and Michigan gets more applications than most schools. As I’ve posted before, son applied in October EA last year and waited until April 5th for his acceptance - it was a painfully long wait for a highly qualified student. Honestly, by early April we were resigned to being denied, so son’s acceptance was a thrill, even in April. He also waited to hear from 10 other colleges he applied to, also in Oct, and didn’t hear from any of them until March 28th. This is EA not ED, where you get a decision in December. The waiting is unfortunately part of the process, at many colleges.

Michigan is an excellent school, high in demand. They are innundated with qualified applicants. I’d prefer that Admissions take their time and give each application a fair assessment, than to rush through them for the sake of those waiting to hear, and possibly pass on some great students.

I’ll wait until the day before classes start. And that’s not an exaggeration my uncle switched from UChicago to Harvard law school when they called him the day before.

Decisions will be released tomorrow! Keep you hopes up!
There is a live chat to confirm what I am saying, go to University of Michigan Admissions homepage and you will find the link and admissions counselors are online till 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

ommmg brookemaya you got my hopes up tremendously!!

Thanks for that info, brookemaya! My predictions are usually wrong!!

I just asked and:
Carrie : All we have been advised is that decisions will go out in April

Just curious… If U Mich does not pan out, where are folks planning to go.

ive been accepted into 2 (Illinois and San Francisco) so if i get rejected from the other 20 colleges ive applied to im going to Illinois.
