A lot of kids from my school were accepted in the EA round. I know of one that heard back a few fridays ago and was accepted. I still haven’t heard anything I feel a rejection

I think the next release will be on April 1st so I’m not even gonna bother checking WA anymore

Congratulations! I’m really happy to hear this worked out.

emmacaroline - you go to Dewitt? I have a friend that used to go to Haslett. everyone knows him haha

some1 shd do this

I am getting a little perturbed. Your kid applies EA to a few schools. Two reply promptly and with scholarship offers. UMich? Nada - still deferred. Kid has good ACT (34), good ECs, average unweighted GPA for the U, but high weighted GPA (lots of APs) and really likes the school…still no decision. Sad thing is, I put in for time off of work when my kid had spring break so we could visit UMich. But with no decision, what is the point in spending time and money on a visit? Can’t get good plane fares either with spring break looming… :(

I think the reason UM has so many applications is because its a very popular sports school with extremely prestigious academic programs as well. In terms of a mix between the two only Duke rivals UM in my mind. Because of its popularity among such a wide variety of applicants we see the number of applications rise each year and the competition rises with it. This leads me to believe that UM is really just packed with applications, I don’t see them just messing with all of our heads on purpose so I think it’s fair that they take a little longer. Just my take though, not saying this is the truth.

^^^ but Dukes football program sucks. Notre Dame (as much as i hate them), maybe some of the California schools (i dont really watch Pac12 bball) are possibly the few schools that have good academics, bball and football imo. ppl might b dissuaded from ND bcoz of the Catholic thing tho

UofM doesn’t meet need for out of state kids (if you are flying in from another region), so if money is not a factor then Ann Arbor is a fun place to visit anyway for a couple days and it could perhaps help him sort out his feelings about Michigan and the other colleges/unis where he has his acceptances. If he was deferred most likely he’ll be getting an answer yes or no within the next several weeks as it has been years since Michigan had to take many kids off a waitlist.

I don’t get a lot of time off of work, so I don’t want to spend vacation days visiting a school where there is no decision about admission. Not to mention the cost of travel…we are visiting the other EA schools.

I hear Ann Arbor is nice, but unless there is a reason to go, I’d rather go in the summer!

Oh well…good luck to all who have been accepted, AND to those still waiting…

Sportsmom and Beachw00d: thank you for the response! I could not reply back because I must have a certain number of responses before using the messaging system. Thank you again

One tip I posted earlier, but it’s way back in this thread, if you’re deferred and still waiting, but think your chances are still good of an acceptance (I know, that’s tough, but this was my son last year, 30 ACT, 3.79 GPA, great ECs, OOS, great essays, recs) you should seriously consider registering for an admitted student day in April IF that is something you want to attend if you are accepted. A parent recommended this last year and I’m so glad they did because by the time son got his acceptance on April 5th, all of the April admitted student days were full. Had we not registered prior to receiving his acceptance, son would not have been able to attend a full day session. We had not even visited Michigan yet, so the visit was important to us. There are other admitted student 2 hour sessions in April, but not the full days. They do fill up. Something to consider.

Sure do. Are you from Michigan? And how’s things going for you in terms of U-M?

What bothered me was that it made it sound as though it was necessary for tuition purposes, not that it played a factor in my admittance. I sent an email on Friday with your suggestion–thanks, by the way–(to the same lady with whom I had been previously in correspondence) and I still haven’t heard. I can’t even tell if it changed because U-M received my 7th semester grades (LCC included) but that wasn’t reflected in my Wolverine Access. SO. FRUSTRATING. e.e

I sent in an additional letter of rec on March 1st and it still doesn’t show up on WA… I asked on the live chat and they said it would take 5-10 business days. Should I be worried and contact my regional admissions counselor to ask about it? Or is it just not processed yet because they’re so backed up w/ so many applications?

I emailed him once in Feb and I didn’t get an answer… and I don’t want to keep emailing him if I’m being annoying since they seem so busy :/

xcted4 - I would definitely email your rep again. Something nice and friendly like 'Hello, just checking to see if my additional letter of recommendation has been received since I haven’t seen anything pop up on Wolverine Access."

It’s possible, with all of the apps, your first email to your rep got lost in the sauce. I don’t think 2 emails, almost 2 months apart is being ‘annoying.’ I am sure they are very busy, but I don’t think it takes more than a minute to check and see if your documents are there. Good Luck!!

All of these mentionings about how competitive it is this year is scaring the hell out of me, considering that the GPA I have is NOT representative of the work I have done at school! (some of the advanced classes I took, including English 101/102, were not included as part of the High School transcript. The Pre-Calc class I missed 40% of to attend that class? It was.). I explained this on the app, and my counselor said that if those classes were weighted in my GPA would be (apprx) 3.8, but the admissions officers won’t necessarily see that! I’m just ridiculously scared that just that one little thing is going to blow my entire application. :(

Just remember that when a lot of people apply to a school that the overconfident and under-qualified individuals are included in that number. U-M checks their applications pretty thoroughly (so they should see your explanation), and course rigor should be considered as well.

EmmaCaroline - No, I’m not from Michigan…I’m from Texas haha. But I have a ton of friends in Michigan. Just out of pure curiosity I’m gonna message you if you know him lol.

And I was deferred EA back in December, still waiting on a decision. But I’m 100% going to University of Texas at Austin (if you were following my other thread lol). But I don’t mind. I just wanna know if I got into Michigan :p

faiintx… HOOK 'EM! I’m a UT grad and happy to hear you will be also! Do you know where you will be living yet?
