Congratulations Duke University is now your university. I would like to invite you to join a most impressive group of students who will comprise our Class of 2009.

The Admissions Committee is especially pleased to offer admission to so many extraordinary students who care enough about Duke to apply under our Early Decision program. You and the other 470 students admitted this month will be the core of our incoming class next fall.

Your classmates will come from around the world and will bring to Duke a wealth of talents and interests. The student body you are joining, among the worlds brightest and most active, is a thriving community enriched by its diversity and breadth of experience. You should be proud to be one of the contributors to that community, for you have earned your place within it. You and your classmates will distinguish yourselves academically and personally over the next four years, and you will leave Duke exceptionally well prepared to make a difference in the world.

We do ask you to complete some paperwork to conclude the Early Decision process. First, to secure your place in the Class of 2009, please return the reply card in your admit packet along with a $200 deposit or a request for a deposit waiver as soon as possible, and no later than January 3. Second, if you have already applied to other colleges, please remember that you need to contact each one withdrawing your application.

Finally, I realize that a primary concern of many high school seniors is now behind you, and that it may be easier for you to enjoy the rest of your senior year. Please dont forget what it took to get you to this point; we fully expect you to maintain high standards of academic performance and personal behavior in and out of school. If there is any change in the information included in your application in terms of your academic, personal, disciplinary, or legal standing it is essential that you contact me immediately. We do reserve the right to withdraw our offer of admission should the quality of your standing in any of these areas decline significantly between now and the beginning of our fall term.

You have my warmest congratulations and my best wishes for continued success for the remainder of your senior year. The faculty and I look forward to having you among us.

Sincerely,

Christoph Guttentag
