Official ED Applicants 2014

well from reading last years threads, and hearing what others have said, if you apply for financial aid it gets updated faster on esther faster or something…idk just esther gets updated quickier than the email/letter notifications they send…but not exactly sure lol

Well on the thread for ED applicants for the class of 2013, those who applied for FA and got accepted received financial aid award letters on the 13th via ESTHER.
Also, the Rice admissions page says (verbatim) that “we will notify you by December 15”…not necessarily ON December 15th. I think that the snail-mailed notification letters must be in the hands of the recipient by the 15th, so they mail them out earlier. They probably update ESTHER when they mail the decisions out.

I’m not totally sure about it though.

^what about OOS people? I live all the way in Montana so doesn’t that mean I get the ESTHER update earlier since snail mail would take a longer time? I don’t think it works that way because i’d get an update by now.

Don’t worry, noaveragegenius – the decisions are posted on ESTHER first and then mailed out. You’ll have to wait for the mail, though, to find out about whether you received a scholarship. If you did, it will be with your acceptance letter.

it’s true, those who applied for financial aid will see on their Esther page their financial-related information before the 15th.

But my question is…does “applying for financial aid” mean applying with the CSS Profile or the FAFSA, or both? I submitted the CSS Profile a while ago but have not completed the FAFSA info yet because I thought it was due sometime later. Will I be waiting for my admission decision along with all the non-financial aid applying students? Or will I still get some sort of estimate?

@dixiesilverjojo

FAFSA for the fall of 2010 isn’t out, as far as I know. For ED applicants, only the CSS/Profile needs to be turned in, so I guess it will be an estimate. To answer your question, you will be notified with the FA people.

I guess you do get your snail-mail letter after December 15th (depending on where you live). But the admission notification via ESTHER would come before the 15th, I’d imagine.

Dixiesilverjojo, I did the same thing. FAFSA isn’t due until later, so since you did submit the CSS profile, I think you’d still receive an estimate.

i dont think it will be the 13th though because its a sunday right? or do the admission people still work on sundays

nah, probably not the 13th…the 12th seems too soon, so probably the 14th

I’m just going to start checking the Esther site obsessively starting on the 12th. Last year, the FA students found out on the 13th but that falls on a Sunday this year…so nothing is certain.

I have tons of friends who are receiving their Cornell and UPenn decision sometime this week…I’m so excited for them!

I believe FAFSA includes our 2009 taxes, so technically we can’t complete it before the end of the year anyway.
From what I’ve read, it looks like Esther gets updated after the end of the last workday before the 15th. That’s why they knew on the 12th/13th last year, and we probably won’t know until the afternoon/evening of the 14th this year.
We figure our son does all the hard stuff, so filling out and keeping track of the apps (except for the essays!) is the least we can do. Also, we’re not shoving him into Rice or any other college. He says he’ll be happy at any “good” college, but Rice is definitely his first choice too.
Good luck to all!!!
Tick, Tick, Tick…

This is only a RUMOR, but a local (California) friend has a good friend in Houston who has “heard that early acceptance letters have gone out”. I think they are mistaken and we won’t find out until next week. Esther still says “application under review”. I’'ll see if I can get any info on their source…

you dont have to worry about fasa until the begining of the year and even then the deadline for that isnt until march i do believe. the css profile is only for them to give us ed applicants an idea of what they can offer to us in financial aid.

these next several days are going to be nerve racking…

omg already gone out!? ahhh maybe we will get it extra early this year?

Hi, I’m new to this thread. I don’t think decisions have been mailed out yet. Some Questbridge applicants who were not accepted through the National College Match Scholarship last week like me were given the decision to apply ED to Rice. Our additional documents were due last Friday. I believe the admission office needs this week to evaluate our applications before they can release the decisions for everyone. This is just what I think. I am not sure.

crazy thing… i tried to log into my esther account and it wouldnt let me. kept saying my password was wrong and i know for a fact it wasnt and now they have is disabled. :(

Kay524: Are you sure you were using a capital letter in the first position of your User ID? (sorry, I had to ask).
If that’s not it, email them at registrar@rice.edu or call (713) 348-RICE for help.
I’m sure this happens a lot.

im going to see if itll work tomorrow if not ill contact rice.

i think you should email them.
do you guys think maybe just maybe esther will be updated friday? since by december 15the letters need to have arrived at peoples houses, wouldnt they have to send it out faster since the 15h is a tuesday? so in order to reach the houses by tuesday it should be sent out friday, since it would take 3 days to get there right?? and they dont work saturdays im guessing…so therfore esther should be updated by friday?!
my friend who applied early to illiniois said that the school told her they would update the online status page friday at 5pm, so maybe rice will to?

I wouldn’t put it past Rice to do that. My friend applied early decision to UPenn, and she was told that they’re sending out the notifications via e-mail on December 11th at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. So, I hope that Rice tells us pretty early…
