Official Fall '07 Transfer Thread =)

Man, call them. I want to know if you guys are in or not! Darnit! Haha but seriously, it's June 15th. Then again, the transfer blog said 7-10 days which was posted on the 11th. So, Monday is 7, and since they did decisions on a Monday last time, maybe that's the golden day. Damn, I know how much it sucks to have to wait a weekend...you want to have fun but have so much on your mind. You couldn't pay me to go through that torture again...although atleast you're at home/during summer, and hopefully have stuff to occupy time. I remember my fateful/drawn out weekend was right after 4/16 so I had noothhiinngg to do. Just hang in there, sleep, take a nap outside, go running, do whatever to take your mind off of it

Good luck guys, i'm rooting for you :)

Also, what I find funny: a transfer blog by someone who isn't even a transfer. I'm sure it's a paid employee at the admissions office, but it seems like it would be a better idea to try to get a transfer student to do it. Obviously they want to relay admissions info, but I think a transfer blog should be first-hand, and they should try to either recruite a transfer to work in their office so they pay them for more than just the blog, or just ask a transfer to volunteer to maintain it. Just my opinion...

Exactly. I agree with you there shoebox. Even though it says 7-10 days on the transfer blog, when I called them up on monday they said they're mailing decisions this week and next week. Acceptances will be sent out on a rolling admission basis, so I was thinking that people that are gonna get in will hear back this week, and rejections will be received next week. I honestly don't think they're gonna send out acceptances next week. Its just too late.

I still have to go home and check my mail though.

Give them a call and see if they sent out any letters. Then you'll know...

But, don't tank your hopes. I know last year they sent a wave of acceptances, a wave of rej, then more acceptances, then a few more rej. They usually do that with regular rolling admissions: they accept the strong ones, reject the ones they know for sure, then look at what's left and go from there. It's easier to do it this way because they can send out the "sures" and get an idea of the standards, then deal with the "either way"s as a mass and spend more time on each one, rather than combining both piles and jumping back and forth.

"You will definately receive your decision by the end of next week".

That's what they told me. Still, I wonder if accepted students get an email before they get a letter. I know they do that with freshman waitlists but when I called them up the lady said "as far as I know, you will receive the letters by the end of next week". I tried to be cheeky and asked her if I got in or not and as expected she said "we don't give decisions on the phone".

Nick, you can not ask a receptionist to tell you whether you are in or not. She can not see or pull out your file, I'm sure.

Anyway...

MightyNick and Braird, Best of luck to both of you!

Thanks.... good luck to you as well.

I am pulling for you guys! It's terrible to be spending your summer in limbo, so I hope you get some good news soon!!

Saturday-- Postman came and went nothing. I am being hopeful and going by the dates on the transfer blog--which means letters should be coming this week....just not willing to give up all hope yet.

Any news Braird?

Yep just got the letter .....sorry charlie no place for you. Good luck to all.

Sorry to hear that Braird. At least the wait is over.

Nothing in the mail today. I'm expecting my rejection letter tomorrow.

Yeah the wait is over and I am off to Fordham in the fall. I am ok with that since their sailing team is 100% better than UVa's. I do have to be up front and say I feel screwed. The agreement UVa has with community college was the down fall. I applied for spring and got rolled over-- then waitlisted-- then denied. I would be a third year student.

I have been on the Deans list for the last 2 semesters-- I came down to UVa and sat in on some classes. I emailed with the profs from the classes. It was my dream and it is over.

To make matters even worse my sister applied as a freshman-- she was told by the theater department that they really wanted her-- she has an awesome acting resume-- films, theater, Carnegie Mellon--she had a 3.8 gpa-- her SATs were not super but well above average-- and she was outright rejected.

Sorry about all the tax dollars my parents have paid to the state only to be screwed over in the end.

My other down fall--- white boy from Northern Virginia.

That really sucks dude. I really feel for you. Did you go to a VCC?

All of this has showed me that no matter how qualified you are, you are not guranteed admission to a top college. The college admission process is inexplicably random and unfair in a lot of cases. All I can say is, if really highly qualified in state students like you can be rejected, then OOS students like me don't stand a chance.

Braid, what are you majoring in. compared to virginia, fordham is much smaller and less recognized. Why didn't you apply to more selective schools?

The campus is pretty though and right next to the city--I was thinking about applying to fordham myself since they are very generous in awarding aid, but I don't think they have an engineering college.

I am sorry to hear that Braird. I live in Northern Virginia too. I know exactly what you feel now after such a long waiting time; every day was full of axious hope. It's really nice to see you here, to share some news together and more importantly, to share the same anxious feelings together.

(Oh, I also want to say that the dream is not "over". You can apply to some graduate school of U.Va after two years if you really want to go there.)

Did anyone get accepted as a transfer to Mcintire? If so, could you post your stats?

No I didn't go to a VCC.

Any news MightyNick?

Braird: i'm so sorry you didn't get in. Then again, Fordham is a great place to end up =) Are you going to reapply next year? (I don't remember what year you are...if you're a rising-third, disregard this =P)

Nope, nothing today. :(

It's taking way too long!!! Sometimes I wonder if I accpeted my waitlist spot! (I did actually, but there could be a glitch in the system perhaps?)

Still, 2 days left. I don't see any hope now.
