Axe lol
is anyone here in Axe?

@iHateCeltics I submitted my SIR a few days ago.

For those of you trying to double major with Econ:
Do you know how many extra classes that is?
I’m just curious since the Cal student from Haas that called me also double majored Econ.

Oh and anyone else a veteran here?

It’s an extra stats class, econometrics class, and 5 upper division econ classes and these also fulfill the 18 non business units requirent from haas as well, and macro/microecon classes fulfill requirements for both majors

do u guys know any majors that require around 18 units of upper division coursework? im wondering if i can double major in something with that extra 18 units that we need in non-business courses. i was looking at media studies but i’m missing one prereq for that and i need to do some research on how to declare that major.

also, how do we exactly minor in something? is there just a list of courses we need to take?

Cohort: SPROUL

CalSO: YES

Maybe CCers could meet on June 10th…? :)

Im in the sproul cohort too!!! haha. What does that involve? Does it matter what one we are in?

Where do I find my cohort? I think I read I was in the Bear cohort somewhere, but now I can’t find it. Also, is anyone planning on taking the accounting classes required for a CPA?

@ddomin it’s in the required haas documents from myberkeleyapp, it’s in bold in the text somewhere near the bottomish

@thegreatone i have no idea what it involves except some kind of competitions with the other cohorts, but i think all we have to know is that we’re in sproul which is thus automatically the best :]

I think I may take the CPA classes. I am not sure yet. I want to do investment banking so I have yet to decide for sure what i will be taking. Prob depends if I double major

How can I find out the essays i have to write for the UC application? I havnt applied yet but i wanted to get my essays down beforehand. Im not talking about the Haas essays because those come later in the application process. Any help would be great.

Does Haas calculate your GPA when transferring using all the class’s you have taken or just the one’s that are for Haas (Prereq’s and Breadth) ?

@talebi:

UC Statements: (same every year)
Prompt #1
What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities and what you have gained from your involvement.

Prompt #2
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

Haas essays 2010: (choose one, different every year, but usually very similar)

A. How do your friends describe you? Do you agree or disagree? Why/Why not?

B. Briefly describe how you envision your first year in the major. How will your presence be known?

@ randommonkey: they look at all UC transferable courses and they calculate ur GPA according to those courses. they can’t just look at prereqs and breadth bc those aren’t enough to satisfy the minimum 60 unit transfer requirement.

you have to answer both prompts for the Uc statements?

you wouldn’t happen to know the word limit would you?

Thanks Lomkh, found it. I am in the Bear cohort.

What are you guys and gals doing for housing? I was thinking of getting an apartment, but I don’t want to deal with the rent and bills on the first year. Now I am thinking of just going with the cheapest option in the dorms. Any input? Or anyone looking for roommates?

Hey guys, found out I’m in the California Cohort. Anyone else in that one? I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet.

@Random_Monkey

Yes, you have to answer both UC prompts and were limited to about 1,000 words for both. If I remember correctly they allowed a little room to go over. I think I had like 1015 or something. Also, you can choose to devote more to one than the other. I think had about 600 words for one prompt and 400 for the other.

@ddomin2363

I’m also in the process of trying to figure out housing. I’ve lived on my own for 2 years now and have gotten quite used to having my own room, queen bed, and privacy, so the transition is going to be a little weird. Ideally, I would like a single room in on campus housing because I want the “social jumpstart” that it offers rather than some apartment off campus.

It seems that staying in one of the Units rather than the apartments offered by Cal is even better because they are more social. But, with that said, looking at Channing Bowditch just now has me really wanting to stay there. I have yet to find more info, but the single rooms looked really nice. I think I may have to just warm up to doing a double since singles are so sparse.

I have no clue what I’ll do for roommates. Another Haas student would be freakin sweet! I have a buddy I graduated high school with who is in the engineering program but he’s now living off campus and pretty much doing his own thing.

Also, since most of us are ~20 yrs old, I don’t want to get stuck with a bunch of freshman that will want me to buy them drinks or something. (Although I’m sure some of the freshman girls will be tempting =P).

Gah, I’m finding that just the housing aspect of all this is very time consuming. I need to do some more research and personal reflection on what I REALLY need and what I can compromise on, even if just for my first year.

I wish they had more pictures or videos of each building. The information is really hard to find. I too am looking at Channing Bowditch, I wanted a single too but I think I am going to go for the cheaper double, at least for the first year. I am not sure if a meal plan is actually worth the price.

hey anyone else see that they changed the requirements for admission for next fall (Haas website)? Assist has not been updated yet, but i hope this does not mean I have to take calc 2. Although no more breadth will be nice i hope it does not increase competition.

If you’re talking about your application, Haas looks at your overall GPA and pays particular attention to grades in core prereq courses. After transferring, you begin with a fresh GPA (no CC grades are factored in).

Regarding courses for those going the accounting route: UGBA 102A, 102B, 120A, 120B, 122, 126 (if you want to be an auditor) …there’s also a taxation course and a bunch of electives that rotate.

102A, B are required of all Haas students anyways

what are you guys planning to take in the fall? I’m trying to work out my two years without taking any summer courses especially before senior year (hopefully have an internship then!) but doesn’t seem like i can avoid it. hmph

i’m looking at some kind of microecon class…i would’ve loved econ101a, but seems impossible to get into lol, ugba 102a, 100, stats 134, and math 54 XD and are you double majoring? it didn’t seem that difficult to do it in two years without summer courses until i included the double major lol, probably about 15 units
