Official Fall 2010 Transfer Thread!

Alrighty thanks.

Alright, I just registered to this forum, because I need to see if I can get some straight answers. I have been hearing mixed things about the UT College of Communication, and what its competitiveness is for transferring in for the Fall 2010.

I am coming from a local community college with a 3.6 with an associates in Business Administration. Initially, I wanted to try for McCombs but I didn’t want to take one course of calculus 2 for one semester to be even considered for admission, so I managed to find a back up plan in UT’s communication dept. I was accepted last semester in their college of undergraduate studies, but decided to finish my associates at my community college. So, what do you guys think? Do I have a shot or am I wasting time? Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone I am currently a freshman at a private four year university. I applied for the fall 2010 semester I have 32 hours completed (this includes dual credit ACC and AP credit) with a gpa of 3.27. I also was able to get a letter of recommendation from my boss (I work in the development department at my current school).

My first choice school is COLA and my second is natural sciences.

Does anyone think I have a chance to get in?

@ aesquimo

Your GPA is a little on the low side, but many get into COLA with this type of score. I think it will come down to the strength of your essays, your resume, and your letter of recommendation.

yeah i have 45 credits and 3.7 gpa, if you have less than 30 it would take less time?

I am at a California Community College right now, with a 3.94 GPA and 47 transfer credit hours prior to the Spring Semester. I was wondering if there is a place that shows whether all the classes will transfer to UT, as well as the date which the application results appear online.

In addition, I still maintain residence in Texas, and thus get in-state tuition, which is about $25,000 a year, give or take. I also applied to Berkeley, which is $50,000 a year, both with the major of Chemical Engineering. Berkeley is ranked #2, and Texas is ranked #7. Is it worth it to pay Out of State to go to Berkeley, or move back and go to Texas?

^ I don’t think it would be worth the extra money to go OOS for Berkeley. Berkeley is only better by a little bit, but not to where it’s worth the cost in difference between OOS and instate tuition. That’s just my opinion, however.

I agree. I think you’d be saving a big chunk of change at UT.

Ok so I improved my gpa to 3.544 cumulative, how about now. What are my chances for Natural Sciences(Physics) and/or COLA(undeclared)

Thats pretty good! I think you have a great chance :)

I applied for Fall 2010 to the College of Liberal Arts at UT. I am a Texas resident but I am currently a freshman at Purdue University in Indiana. Last semester my GPA was 3.45 with 16 credits, however, this semester I had to drop a truly awful class so I only have 12 credits (it was too late to add a class). Since I won’t have 30 credits, can I send them AP scores for more credit? And I’ll be taking a class this summer (4 credits) in order to gain more credit but I am not sure how that will affect their decision. Any advice?

Try to get the AP scores sent to Purdue so they can list them as credit. UT will accept them on your transcript.

When does UT release admission results, and when should applicants send in AP Scores, either to UT or aTm.

Ok so i sent my new transcript for my winter quarter…when does it show up on the application page?

They’re relatively quick about processing documents. Probably the end of next week latest.

you guys know when are they to reply ? and if you guys can give me an estimate for an international student 3.78 gpa in Fall 2009 aerospace engineering at the university of miami. how do i fare for transfering to ut ?

Your GPA is pretty high, but I’m not sure about the competitiveness between out of state students. I would say that you have a good chance.

thanks! the thing now is when do we get our replies ? i mean it may cost me a lot of money if we dont know soon enough, plane tickets and registering for my college now etc.

Did you apply with 30+ credit hours?

If so, you should be hearing back around late April, early May. I think COLA makes decisions first, and the more competitive colleges start making them later.

yeah i have like 28 credit from HS in the form of A-levels and did 16 credits last semester. The bad thing is that i did pre-calc last semester and im doing calc I now. Will this affect my admission chances ?
