@alex your ECs are definitely the weak point of your application. the avg admit gpa for comm studies at ucla is in fact 3.9. that doesnt mean you cant get in with a 3.8. you probably will…PROVIDED your application appeals to them(ecs, essay, etc). media studies is probably a bit easier to get into. its still pretty competitive though.

lol, I wish I had that nephew thing going for me.

I applied as a history major 3.3 and tap with all prereqs completed. I just wanted to know my chances for my alternate major which is philosophy. I only completed one of the prereqs, but it’s non impacted and has a high admit rate. I just wanted to know what my chances are for phil as well as history if anyone would care to chance me for either one or both it would be appreciated :).

I also applied to UCLA bus-econ (i doubt that one very much)
Applied to UCSD, and UCSB too (if i get in i probably wont go to those)

Let me know what you guys think and WHY THE HECK HAVEN’T I HEARD ANYTHING!
seems like everyones getting accepted but me!

Thanks in advance peeps

cali: I applied as that major before I changed it. I think you’ll be fine and you just need to sit tight. Many people applied to the Social Ecology department and it’s backed up to hell over there. (i went to the campus and asked the director)…if anything, they say wait until april because thats the official time when CC transfers get their letters of admission.

Your gpa is semi-strong, is there a trend in your grades? any C’s or D’s?

one stupid C in an online bio class i took. other then that I have all A’s and B’s.
and this semester I’m most likely going to finish with around a 3.8

Yep, you should be fine. Good luck with the Crim program, I heard it’s fantastic!

thanks! yeah i was planning on bus-econ, but now that uci is a law school and its ranked 39 after only 1 year I’m really looking to pursue crim there. we’ll see what happens. thanks again.

can anyone please chance me for my alternate, my stats are on the top of this pg.

Major: Political Science
UC GPA: 3.2
Applying to: Berkeley, Davis, Santa Barbara
IGETC:yes!
TAG/TAP: not too any of them… Stupid Berkeley doesn’t have one… T_T
ECs: Student newspaper in high school and community college. Work at for the City of Davis community services department.

I really don’t know where I want to go… Each one of those schools is really enticing. Berkeley would be my first choice, but growing up in Davis all my life, it feels like I’m destined to be there. My counselor said I’m pretty much a shoe-in at SB, but I still haven’t heard from them yet…

^ Berkeley is a long shot. If you look at the thread of admittances last year, a lot of Poli Sci majors were rejected even with a 3.8+… But, of course, you never know. Your ECs might count for something (or two, hah).

And your counselor’s right about SB. Davis, too.

@la4ever09 - You’re in at UCLA. If not history, you’ll get in for philosophy for sure. I hear they’re not too strict on pre-reqs for alternative majors.

Major: History
UC GPA: 3.95
Applying to: Berkeley
Prereqs: All completed as of the end of this semester.
IGETC: All completed as of the end of this semester.
ECs: Lots of volunteer work.
Essays: I talked about seeing the Sufi dervishes in Cappadocia, and in the major-specific question how I’ve always loved the humanities and history specifically. Probably 9/10 for the former and 7/10 for the latter.
Other: I’ve had Dean’s Honor or President’s Honor for every semester since I topped the minimum cumulative credits requirement for my school.

I actually applied to all the UCs, but I’ve only heard back from UCSC and Riverside (both acceptances). Merced asked for my spring grades as of midterms, which wasn’t possible since my school hasn’t given midterms yet. Anyway, UCSC was my second choice, so if Berkeley doesn’t accept me I’ll just go there. Chance me?

Thanks,
Hadrian

Hadrian, I would say that you’re definitely in at Berkeley.

While there are no guarantees, you should get in.

sup night owls. midterm in 5 hours, popped an adderall, wasting valuable time making this post! im waiting for a decision from ucla and ucsd, bummer! i have a tag with ucsd however. hopefully i get atleast a C on my midterm so i can pass my bio class. if i dont, that might jeapordse my chances to transfer, BUMMER! hopefully i wont have to stay at the cc for another year.

@slow, do you have ADD or just a prescription? Or neither?
