DAM! thats awesome! Is that from what you have seen with CC kids?

It’s from what I know from reading the statistics on TAP, seeing the kids with TAP on College Conf. last year getting admitted left and right, and having spoken with UCLA reps about its significance.

All this said…you guys are lucky.

My CCC doesn’t offer TAP. Congrats on getting it guys; it should really really boost your chances.

I never really checked out TAP that’s why i dont have one. From what i know of, the classes for TAP are usually honors classes, correct?

Yeah TAP requires 5 honors classes (or 15 units) in CC
to become certified.

Thanks Emil! I really appreciate your insight. And hellostranger…yes its honors classes . But every JC has their own requirements for the TAP program.

Transfer to UCLA from UCSD?
Last year the average GPA of a political science major to UCLA was a 3.65. I have a 3.66, but there are also 2,000 more students applying this year than last year to the university. My question, simply put, is “should I be optimistic about my chances?”

From what I hear, UCLA gives the same consideration to other UC students as it does to community college students.

Pros:
Studied abroad in Germany fall quarter of sophomore year
Member of Student Council Freshman year
Finished all lower-division requirements for political science
Finished all GE requirements for Thurgood Marshall College
Joined a Fraternity

@ Bruin: You’re welcome man! I wish ya the best.

@ shaq896: I don’t know if I would say optimistic, but I think you have a solid chance. That said, if UCLA does indeed give the same priority to transfers from UC’s, then I’d say you have a pretty good shot. We’ll just have to wait it out until Friday :/.

Not that this thread needs another person to post up their stats…

Major: Sociology
UC GPA: 4.0
Applying to: UCSD (accepted), UCLA, CAL
Prereqs: Done
IGETC: Done by Spring
ECs: Gah… This is the part that I’m nervous about. I don’t have any extracurricular activities. I know… Huge mistake.
Essay: I think I did a decent job on my essay… An 8 or a 9 perhaps?
Other: I got one W my first semester, which I made up.

Like I said, I’m particularly worried about ECs and how important they are when transferring? Especially since sociology’s such a competitive major…
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Major: Business Econ (UCLA), Economics (UCBerkeley)
GPA: 3.78
IGETC/ PREREQs: All done by Spring
TAG/TAP: Yes UCLA tap filled out
Essays: Hopefully good enough, felt like they were decent
ECs: Work, some community service, externship
Other: Some awards nothing too special

really hope i have a chance to get in… AH cant wait

Major: Psychology
UC GPA: 3.7
Applying to: UCLA, UB (already accepted to UCSD, UCD)
Prereqs: Completed, finishing the last ones up this semester.
IGETC: Will be completed this semester
TAG/TAP: N/A

ECs: I work 30 hours a week, played softball for my CC last year until I broke my ankle during a game, and coached 12-and-under girl’s softball for two years with my husband. Am paying my own way through school, and noted under the “plans for finances” section that I’m hoping to start saving up to buy a house within the next 1-2 years.

Essay: 9/10, I hope. I wrote my first one about how I want to become a psychologist because of my dad’s battle with mental illness, including how I recently saw him homeless on the street due to his paranoid schizophrenia (he’s not able to hold a job when he’s not taking his medication). My second essay was about how I’ve stuck with school for the last few years despite hardships, including the fact that my husband and I were three days from being homeless ourselves after he lost his job in August.

Other: Not much else. I’m really hoping that even though I work too much to do any ECs, my first essay showed a demonstrated passion for my major. I emphasized that I want to continue on and pursue a doctorate as well. Also, was invited to join the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, but couldn’t because it cost too much for me at the time. :

I didn’t sign up for this site until today, but the waiting is KILLING me! I just want to find out where I did and didn’t get in so that I can start planning. Although to be honest, I’ve wanted to go to Berkeley since I was 10 years old, so best case scenario, I get into my dream school and don’t have to move since I already live in the bay area.

Major: Asian American Studies
UC GPA: 3.48-3.5
Applying to: UCI, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal
Prereqs: My CC doesn’t offer them all.
IGETC: completed after spring '10
TAG/TAP: none.
ECs: 20+ hrs of work and college tennis.
Essay: decent.
Other: Got into UCI and UCSD. awaiting for UCLA and Cal.

When is the new rumored date for UCLA releasing their admission decisions for transfer students? I heard Wednesday the 21st and Friday the 23rd.

@ abutler: Just letting you know that I chanced you in the late-night UC transfer thread.

Major: Economics/Mathematics
UC GPA: 4.0
Applying to: Cal, UCSD
Prereqs: All that are possible to complete at my community college.
IGETC: completed after spring '10
TAG/TAP: none.

ECs:
- Proprietor of educational services operation.
- Economics tutor for my community college.
- Activities Director of student body. Supported tutoring department and established a scholarship fund.
- Officer of local Lion’s Club.
- Editor of my college’s newspaper. My time investment in the paper’s technology infrastructure and new marketing opportunities has increased readership and operations by at least 100% each.
- Proprietor of computer repair and sales operation.
- Recipient of Outstanding Student in Economics 2009 (one recipient annually)
- Lost 75 pounds in one year to achieve health.
- Maybe one or two more I forgot to mention.

Essay: 6.5/10. Split both essays about 50/50 on word limit. Talked about discovering passion for the major and my applications of its thought processes to date. My trait was curiosity and how it has led me to my current situation and is taking me forever higher to learning new things, also that it will be the death of me.

Other: Haven’t heard back from either school. My friend has been accepted to UCSD though. That worries me.

Current College: UC Pierce
Major:History
UC GPA:3.81
Applying to:UCLA,UCSB,UCI,UCD,Cal,UCSD,USC,Penn
Prereqs: All completed except a Latin American History class that Cal requires
IGETC:Completed
TAG/TAP:UCLA,UCI TAP certified
ECs:tutor at my elementary school alumni, employment at various jobs, play several instruments
Essay: typical transformation from CC to UC essay, but it was looked over by my brother who’s in the UC Davis law school admissions review board
Other: Got two B’s in English 101 and 102 in HS. Otherwise i woulda had a higher GPA

@UCLAkitty: No one’s sure about the UCLA decisions release, but most definitely within this week! I’d say you have a very good shot at UCLA, though I’m not too sure about Cal. I’m going to take a wild guess and say 7ish/10 for Berkeley.

@Sohnsat: With that GPA and those ECs, you don’t need a strong essay! You’re in!

@shanahanyang: I’d say you’re in at all UCs. Good luck with Penn (U or State?)!

lol im still waiting on SD : (

but UPenn. im applying to that for the lawls

But my preference in the UC’s would be
UCLA
UCD
UCB
UCSD
UCI
UCSB

There are a lot of kids waiting for UCSD (unfortunately)… Keep your chin up! There’s no way you can be declined with those stats. (PS: Lol at ‘UC Pierce’ - just noticed it, haha.)

I hope so. I just wonder why my friend, Juan, has heard back from UCSD already. Comparatively, and there is no elitism or ill will intended in this statement, my application was much stronger. At least in terms of ECs and GPA.

UC Pierce FTW!!!

UC Pierce FTL. This school is so far beyond awful that even Merced would be heavenly in comparison!
