the 3.12 probably isn’t going to be enough, try to raise it and apply again next year

I posted this already but I just wanted to clarify something

could anyones please chance me?

applying for spring 2012 LSA

54 credits and 3.5 GPA from OCC
57 (plus 16 pending) credits and 3.97 GPA from U of M - Flint

EC’s
Golden Key Honours Society
Mandarin Chinese club

Legacy
Mother got her masters at U of M
Brother got his bachelors at U of M

I switched majors from Comm to Earth Science recently so although I have a lot of credits I’m still at least a couple years from graduating

-__________-

I thought the U of M admission process was the same as last year… It’s rolling now??

I have not yet submitted my app, but will by the deadline, though it looks like a lot of people have responses back already. I’m worried [that there won’t be any spaces by the time the deadline is here]. Should I be worried…??

@m77

It was rolling last year also.

I called Michigan admissions, they said they have everything in, but they still haven’t updated WolverineAccess to show they have all my transcripts (I have transcripts from 2 schools)

Has this happened to anyone else? Also would anyone know how much admissions would care that I’ve been to 2 schools prior to attending Michigan? (If i were to get in)

@football462.

I pretty much submitted everything in november but most of it wasn’t up on Wolverine Access until mid to late december. I think they just have a whole lot to process and not the most efficient way to do it. But from my several times contacting the school and talking to my brothers girlfriend who works in advising, I figured out that as long as they tell you they have your transcripts etc.- that’s what matters. And they shouldn’t care that you’ve attended two schools (I’ve also attended two schools). It shouldn’t affect your admission if thats what your wondering about.

I just sent in my commonapp a couple days ago. im a michigan resident and i was wondering how my chances are (i know theyre kinda slim)
here are my stats:
highschool:
i went to the international academy
GPA: 3.33 (uw) 3.72 (w)
ACT:29
EC: took 7 IB classes in highschool, got my IB diploma, played a jv sport for 2 years and did competitive gymnastics, co-president for a club, secretar for another club, volunteered at a hospital, teacher at a local saturday school and a bunch of other things
got waitlisted
College:
currently attend the university of michigan dearborn: honors college
GPA: 3.55
got a stellar letter of rec
credits: 14 done 16 pending and 12 earned from my IB diploma
EC: part of 3 clubs, president of youth group, honors student, scholarship recipient, etc

rmkash - Your chances are a bit slim. Your ACT is average, HS GPA is below average, and your college GPA is slightly below. But you did attend a more rigorous HS, took rigorous courses, and did participate in EC’s.

All in all, it depends on the adcom, what they think of you, and what they think of your essay. Do better at UofM-Dearborn and you are looking at an admission in future terms if not the current term.

Good luck! I’m applying for Fall 2012 admission and I certainly hope you get in too!

Thanks for your reply beotherworldy

From what I’ve read, it seems that my 3.75 gpa (46 credits completed/15 pending) should be enough for admission to overlook my sub 2.5 gpa, hope thats the case

For any one transferring in their sophomore year, admissions told me that how many credits you have is a big deal to them also.

I’m sorry for double posting, but does anyone know if the semester you’re transferring into matters?

For example, the majority of people here are applying for Fall 2012, but I’m applying for the Summer semester, because I wanted to take the opportunity to knock a few classes out of the way so my Fall semester isn’t fully loaded

Admissions standards don’t really change much based on the term. Also why not take your classes at a cc and then transfer them in? It would be far cheaper.

@football462 from what I have heard from UofM admissions people that I know, UofM does not like to give summer transfers. I understand your reason especially as you have over 60 credits already which is the most you can transfer unless you transfer an associates degree then you can transfer 62.

@hotdogseller he can not go to a CC due to the fact that he already has the maximum transferable credits allowed that being 60 without completion of an associates or 62 with the completion of an associates.

@bleedmichigan

Are you sure about that? I called admissions and the representative told me that the term for which I applied shouldn’t have an affect on my admissions decision, similar to what hotdogseller posted.

@football462 I posed this question to my Aunt who works in Athletics who then asked her friends in admissions where she used to work. Admissions will never say they show preference to one term or another as sophomore nursing students transfer in the summer. The issue is that people look at it as a way in when they have lower grades due to the fact there are usually less LSA applications in summer, admissions frowns on that. Your instance falls outside of that realm as you can not take more classes and then transfer them if you are accepted. So the answer I was given to the broad question of is there a difference with regard to how summer transfers are looked at needed to be clarified. If you were trying to transfer to UofM in the summer with less than 60 credits the answer my aunt was given is that it would decrease your chances unless of course you were a nursing transfer. If you are at 60 or above credits there is no difference except that in most instances there are less spots available in the summer for transfer students. That was the answer I was given when I clarified the question this afternoon.

@bleedmichigan

Ah ok, that makes more sense.

Accepted today to LSA Spring 2012!!

HS GPA 2.8
24 ACT

College GPA:
OCC 3.5 (54 credits)
UM-Flint 3.98 (57 credits 16 more pending)
EC’s: mandarin club, GK Honours
Legacy: Brother (Bachelor) Mother (Master)

I’m about two years away from graduating at UMflint (due to changing my major), so I want to finish those two years at Ann Arbor. Apparently it is impossible to have too many credits when applying, as I have enough for an undergraduate degree, lol. (obviously only 60 transfer)

Hey guys, so since being accepted I’ve paid my enrollment deposit, but now I’m left with the problem of trying to find a place to live. What are everyone else’s plans? Anyone want to see if we could get an apartment together?

Does anyone know the effect of legacy on applications?

Also, I applied yesterday and i was wondering when i will receive the email confirming my application giving me the application ID to create the account where i can check my application status?

Thanks!

For anyone reading this whos application status hasn’t been updated in a while, the woman I called on Friday actually emailed my admissions counselor to let her know that all my stuff was in, but on wolverineaccess it hadn’t updated.

She was able to verify I had all application materials, and now my application is under review. Fingers crossed.

Wanted to give an update; I was accepted Monday night (tuesday morning?)

GPA: 3.75
High school GPA: sub 2.5

Looks like they truly don’t care about high school if you have enough credits.

Good luck to everyone else applying!

Should your interest in attending the University continue, it is possible to change your application to a later term. Please request this change in writing prior to the deadline of your desired new term of entry. Also include the name of the institution you are attending, course title(s), course number(s), and number of credit hours you will complete prior to the desired term of entry. We will notify you if a new application fee or additional information is required.

is this their typical rejection email?
