@delinquente Yup. And nope.

@bookznhoopz You thinking Brown over Columbia? Why? Just curious.

I was admitted for the Spring and was wondering if anyone who was admitted for the fall would like to trade places?

@skysthelimit14 Are you allowed to trade places with someone like that? I would imagine it would have to go through the admissions officers decisions and not up to the students

Got admitted to the computer science program! So exited and grateful to get in. If anyone in my same boat wants to chat please hit me up.

International student
Did not apply for financial aid.

@fatsmellykid are you gonna be a sophomore at Brown? I’m an international student too but I got waitlisted (junior transfer)

@delinquente I applied for junior transfer. Are you by any chance a Spanish speaker applicant? I did not get waitlisted, just seemed a little slow on my comment.

@secretonland Stats:

SAT: sucked. around 1850

GPA: 4.0

Sophomore Course Load: Operating systems, programming languages, C programming and databases; but also creative writing, languages, and ethics courses.

Teacher Recs: Ethics professor and programming languages professor.

Essays: Worked on them since last year, so I believe they were the most important factor.

ECs: Student’s board secretary, hackathons, and basically all that I could find.

Awards: Hackathon 1st place and programming languages contests

Work: Google intern, Research assistant in my college, project on a chemical plant company with no clue how’s anything done. All 3 are very different areas which is suppose it helped. I also mentioned Microsoft on essays; got it but opted Google at the end.

Service/Summer Programs: Stanford Summer school program back in high school which I still empathize a lot.

Hooks: none

@fatsmellykid No I am not

Has anyone received their decision in the mail yet? My link has never worked.

@lmffdo Yes, I received my letter around May 17th (the letter was post- marked May 15th) You should probably call the admissions office if you haven’t received a letter and you can’t see online!

Imffdo: definitely call. My link stopped working three days before and continued not to work right until decision time causing me to have to call. After a few transfers back and forth between computer services and admission I finally got through.

Has anyone heard anything definite (an answer or a date we will start hearing) about the wait list? I called a bit ago and got a very vague answer.

@transferfall2014 I haven’t heard anything yet. I expect we’ll hear something soon, as the reply date for accepted applicants is June 5. It shouldn’t take too long after that for the committee to decide if they’ll even be using the wait list. Actual offers could come any day after that notification, however.

Excellent! I’m quite content with Wesleyan at this point, but am hoping to hear back for curiosity’s sake because I have heard dismal things about Brown’s transfer financial aid. I did think that their wait list letter was particularly sweet and encouraging!

@transferfall2014 Agree with you about the letter…it seemed as if they were confident they would be using the wait list for transfers. Considering I have a full need, I’m not expecting much in terms of financial aid, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

@transferfall2014 @KingofSweden Did you guys mail a letter asking to stay on the waitlist or did you guys email? I’m an international student and unfortunately, my mail got disrupted and is still not sent to Brown yet. I actually emailed transferapps a week ago with my letter but I doubt that anyone reads it…

@delinquente If you emailed your letter to transferapp@brown.edu, it will definitely be reviewed and added to your file. I submitted a few materials but received no response, however when my sibling submitted a personal recommendation she received a response from the admissions committee thanking her for her submission, and that it would be added to my file.

Send whatever you think is beneficial to your candidacy.

@KingofSweden Well I did both just in case they couldn’t receive my fax/mail. I hope they won’t think I’m annoying…

@delinquente I doubt it. From my experience with admission offices, sending materials through multiple methods is usually interpreted as a safety precaution to ensure that the material is received (lest the fax doesn’t go through, or the item is lost in the mail, etc.) Usually email is your best bet.

Best of luck!

@KingofSweden Thanks so much. Good luck to you too! The wait is killing me…
