Official Fall 2014 Decisions Thread

@notmadeofmoney

on my acceptance letter, they indicated that i was being offered scholarship money as a purple and gold scholar. not sure if that answers your question…

My D was wait listed. She is disappointed, but going over her options. Congratulations to all those who were accepted!

@literally Congrats! Would you mind sharing your stats with us?

@verbeeky I’m from FL too, but I still haven’t gotten a letter, lucky!! waiting sucks

I just got an email for a uw preview and it clearly indicates congratulations again on your acceptance

…this sucks lol, you got an email^?

i was accepted! OOS, biochemistry major. scholarship would have made the school more of a possibility, though. :p

@notmadeofmoney - If you scroll back through this thread you’ll see postings of the scholarships. I assume most of them are for out-of-state students but maybe a few are for in-state students.

As an in-state mom of a UW applicant last year, I can tell you that the UW was extremely stingy on scholarships and financial aid. My D is now on the other side of the country, in a private university, and we are paying about $3,000 LESS per year out-of-pocket (yes, that is including the travel costs) than we would have paid at the UW. My D is in her major, which was not guaranteed at the UW, and loving it on the East Coast. She is double-majoring in CS and systems engineering.

After seeing several articles in the Seattle Times about legislators worried about how few Washington students major in STEM fields in this state, I let them know why my D was enrolling in a university on the other side of the country (and sent them a link to last year’s acceptance thread showing the OOS scholarships being offered) and apparently at least one of the legislators asked the UW what was going on and they let them know about the OOS scholarships (which were a first last year). If you look on the UW’s undergraduate scholarship page, there is nothing about OOS scholarships (unless I missed it): <a href=“Student Financial Aid”>Student Financial Aid;

If you have an in-state student, I hope your S or D receives some scholarship money or some financial aid. If you are OOS, the UW is an okay deal if your S/D receives a scholarship.

@NinRash My Daughter received her admission packet from UW today. It still shows her college as “Arts & Sciences”, and major as “Pre-Science”.

 1. Does that mean my daughter did not get Direct admission into Computer Science?
 2. If that is the case what is the % of Computer Science seats that gets filled using DA vs available for folks to move from Pre-Science to Computer Science major after the completion of the first year? (assuming you can move only after the first year after completing the set of pre-requisites)

@SD2018Dad I’m sorry I forgot…you guys are in state or OOS? I ask because I live 15 min from seattle and still didnt get my welcome packet, but the mail didnt come yet, hopefully I get it today…

Anyways, uhm they don’t tell EVERYONE who gets in DA through the welcome packet. But the majority, yes. so there is still a small chance she could get the formal postal mail from the CSE department.(in about 2 weeks max)

All I can say is that approx. 30% of UW students who apply after taking the pre-reqs get in. Here are the pre-reqs for any major: http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/APW</a>
-I included the entire list so you and your daughter can look through them and compare alternatives, backups, and just for your information in general.

and the stats of previous UW engineering admits: http://data.engr.washington.edu/pls/portal30/STUDENT_APPL.RPT_APPLICANT_STATISTICS_YEAR.SHOW_PARMS</a>

 • this one is a neat site, just choose the department and you get all of the stats.

@NinRash. Thanks again for your quick response. While my daughter is currently doing her HS in India, I have moved back to the area in anticipation of her pursuing her undergrad in the US. So, we have a local address.
Looks like the chance for her to get CSE DA is low…I also say other discussions on this thread that says that international students NEVER get DA. Is that TRUE?

Our residency status is little confused to say the least. While my D is doing her high school in India she grew up in Seattle area and did her elementary and middle school in the area. We are also Permanent residents (Green Card), maintain a house, DL and bank accounts etc in the area. Hence I believe we should be technically classified as residents. She is also < 17 and I understand that she is a minor and goes by my residency status. Her residency status in the admission package says “non-resident”. I need to talk to them to figure all this out. Sorry for the ranther long post :-)

@SD2018Dad I think it’s true, international students need to be enrolled at UW first and do pre-reqs…not sure why. Maybe you could call and try to make a case, since it sounds like you might have a chance of being “resident” instead…i honestly dont know for sure.

I find it rather odd that I have yet to receive my welcome packet…when was your’s postmarked?

@NinRash Mine arrived 2 days ago…since I am in Cali currently I asked them to fedex it to me and got it today…anxiety :slight_smile:
I have not looked at the postmark…will let you know once I get home back tonight

my unofficial transcript changed from college (UW-Bothell) to college (arts&sciences) and major (pre science) does this mean i’ve been accepted? i haven’t gotten a letter yet.

and does the transcript load for waitlisted students?

@NinRash: Is there a number to reach an admission counsellor at UW? I tried searching on GOOG and also on UW site and didn’t get anything

@breezybee you have been accepted (99% positive) it doesnt load for waitlist kids…congrats!

@SD2018Dad I cant find a number either…kind of odd, I’m sure you could just call the university or general admissions and ask for it though…

@NinRash: The admission packet was postmarked March 18th. We received on 18th.

I emailed them and they said the packets are sent out in batches…but I cannot wait!!! I need to know if I am DA to CS or not! The suspense is killing me!
