Official Fall 2015 UCSB Transfer Thread.

Would I be at a disadvantage if I still have a major prep course in progress? It’ll be done by this semester.

With the higher applications and limited amount of space, it could be an issue. Especially, if there are more applicants who have finished all major prep and igetc. With all that is happening with the UCs, it is hard to tell how the outcome will be.

@sliceoflife24‌ absolutely not. You have a powerful GPA and are finishing up one course. It’s fine. Good luck!

@lindyk8 @futureuclabruin1 Thank you for the quick responses! I will keep both of your opinions in mind. Excuse me if I didn’t tag properly… I’m new to this whole CC thing, hahah.

@kyle2015‌ how do you know you were rejected because of your math prereqs? did you call them and ask? :o

@friedchips‌ yes I did call them up right after I found out I was rejected…same day. It was tough but they told me it was because I was taking math in spring 2014. Hopefully luck shines on you and you get accepted. But with this battle between Janet and gov brown…I’m not so sure how much luck you have to work with…Hopefully uc doesn’t end up accepting more Out of state applicants.

Good luck though.

@sliceoflife24 you did it right.

Hi Everyone!

GPA: 3.34
TAG : Yes
IGETC: Completed
Pre-requisites: finished in fall
Major : Communication
Applied: UCR UCSB UCSD UCD UCI
Accepted : Pending

Goodluck to everyone who is waiting !!! I am so excited and its just a couple of days away!

GPA: 3.5
TAG: No
IGETC: 90% complete
Pre-reqs: Complete
Major: Biology
Applied: UCI, UCSB UCD, UCLA, UCB, UCSD

I’m pretty nervous…

@CrispyJuicy‌ why didn’t u tag?

@Tristana At the time I only had 29 units. My counselor had told me that one of my classes was uc transferable which would have gave me 32, but it turns out it’s only CSU transferable. I should’ve double checked on that, so it was my fault.

agh, i’m also super duper nervous. i’m scared because i might be missing prereqs, which i know is super important… do any of you know how important igetc is though?

GPA: 3.75-3.85 (wasn’t sure how to calculate this because i went to 2 community colleges)
TAG : no
IGETC: no
Pre-requisites: might be missing 1 or 2 (MATH 2A/2B) or even none depending on if there’s space for those classes when i can register
Major : Mathematical Sciences
Applied: UCB UCLA UCSD UCD UCSB UCI
Accepted : Pending

@friedchips‌ Why don’t you have IGETC? Have you followed some general education outline? Can you get partially certified or something? From my knowledge, not having IGETC at all (or the general ed requirements for a certain major/school) will hinder you significantly. You may possibly get into one of the lower UC’s like Davis or Irvine just because you have a high GPA, but the top three will definitely not like that you’re missing prereq’s / IGETC certification. Anything’s possible, though.

@goldencub

UCSD is still not really better than UC Davis, UCSB, or UC Irvine, they’re more-less the same in regards to rank and prestige. I’ve known many ppl that got into UCSD without fully completing IGETC and missing 1 or 2 pre-reqs.

For Berkeley and UCLA i’m not so sure missing key stuff would slide. I know UCLA does like and prefer for their applicants to have completed IGETC, they say it within their transfer catalog thingy. But there can always be exceptions to the rule for certain applicants. I’m sure Berkeley is the same, but if anyone is really worried they should personally go visit and check out both UCB and UCLA’s sites concerning this specific matter.

@kyle2015 Oh it’s definitely possible. I know someone who got into Cal without completing IGETC (there was a problem with one class or something, but they wanted him for his 4.0). It’s just more realistic to suggest UCD and UCI as possibilities as opposed to UCSD or SB.

@goldencub i see what you’re saying. I guess the whole story here at the end of the day is that nobody knows the outcome until decision day.

And so with that said…the days continue to move on…and we continue to…well you know…wait and wait and wait and wait, as the anticipation builds.

Good luck

xD

I contacted UCSB about changing my major to History, and the helpful lady told me I was allowed to change my major and it would not adversely affect my admission decision. Hope this is helpful to others. I will complete the history major prep course this semester.

Stats:
UC GPA: 3.48
IGETC: yes
TAG: no
Major: Ecology (pre-biology)
Applied: UCSB, UCLA, UCD
Pre-reqs: all done by end of this semester, except I’m worried about not having both English courses done by Fall 2014… I’m currently taking my second semester of English. I took my first semester of English the fall semester of my freshman year and received an A. I’ve heard various opinions, some saying that not having both done is looked down upon, and others saying that having at least one done is fine (so the university knows I am capable of completing a college English course), as long as I complete the other semester before I transfer. I also completed the math requirement my fall semester of freshman year. Opinions?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Alrighty seeing as i’m nervous might as well post my stats.

UC GPA:3.60
IGETC: No, its not recommended for Engineering students
TAG: Nope (They took out the engineering TAG this year)
