Official Fall 2015 UCSB Transfer Thread.

that’s what my friend told me. They would ask you if they see something wrong! most of my friend got decision already and I am still waiting.

@lorindayl I’m sorry but what are you referring to when you mean something wrong? Something wrong your application?

@CancelOut Sorry, I don’t know. I’ve been checking every day around 4pm even though nothing’s up yet. It’s more probable that they take weekends off, if I were to guess…

PS, just realized something funny - for those with “disappearing” perm numbers, all you have to do is click the underlined text and it shows up. :wink: conspiracy theory officially debunked.

sorry for confusing you. my friend told me that UC sent email asked him about his application form. So if they haven’t contact you at this moment, I assume your information is good and just need to wait.

@rileyc21 It didn’t work at the beginning. That’s why we freaked out, haha. I think they allowed us to hide our perm number because it is a confidential info and people were uploading screenshots of the portal with their perm exposed. Debunked!

@ARandomPerson1‌
I’m anxious on waiting till Monday too. I just hope we’re notified that day and hopefully we both get in. The waiting has been pure torture. What other schools did you apply to?

The portal is having a maintenance right now. Could they be releasing decisions?

@Mustang012 I hope so too! So far I’ve only heard of rejections at my school from UCSB, at least for people who applied to the CoE. But I’m glad I wasn’t one of them (at least not yet :/). I was accepted to UCSC under TAG, and also applied to UCSD, UCI, and UC Davis. I haven’t heard anything from any of them. UCSB is my top choice by far, though!

@CancelOut Releasing decisions from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on a weekend? I sort of have doubts about that…

EDIT: Never mind, it looks like they are loading applicant information into the system…

@ARandomPerson1 Yeah you’re right. It’s most likely just some server issues.

@ARandomPerson1‌ I haven’t heard of any rejections either. Most of the people I know are still waiting for a decision. Let’s hope not! What are you stats? That’s good that you have a secure spot at UCSC though. What about UCSB makes it your top choice?

@Mustang012 Well, the fact that I live right by UCSB helps a lot, since it means I won’t have to move very far over the summer if I’m accepted! Also, the top-notch engineering department and the work-play balance at UCSB makes it about as ideal of a university as it can be. My stats are nowhere near as good as yours, but just for future reference I copied them from the UCSC thread (with some slight modifications):

UC GPA: 3.6 (but also have some grades from a foreign university where I didn’t do too well, so it could be a bit lower when those are factored in)
Major: Electrical Engineering
TAG: N/A
Prerequisites: All completed
Essays: 8-9/10
Extracurriculars: Treasurer and secretary of engineering club; science club member
Awards: Phi Theta Kappa; school honor roll
Other: Female engineering student? Don’t know if that will help with my admission but it might give me a couple of extra points for diversity. I also have a clear upward trend in grades, so that might positively affect my chances as well.

I think my low-ish GPA is by far the weakest part of my application. If I’m rejected, it will most likely be for that reason. :frowning:

@ARandomPerson1‌ Very good reason to choose UCSB!
I believe you have a good chance of being accepted! In fact, I think you have a better shot than I do. I may have a slightly higher GPA but you have good EC’s and have all pre-reqs completed, which makes your chances of being accepted better than mine!
I think being a female engineering student will add points too. I rarely hear of any female engineering students since most of my classes are filled with males students and one or two female students.

hi guys im a senior going into college and i really need help understanding this process. First of all i thought TAG meant the college was GUARANTEED? This this somehow change?
And also could u guys tell me what CC u guys r coming from because i only know of SBCC, OCC, and Santa Monica.

@Mustang012 Thanks, but you’ve also completed all the prereq’s, and with a higher GPA too! Sadly for transfer admissions I don’t think subjective stuff like extracurricular activities and essays count as much as prereq completion and GPA. I think they could help in a borderline case like mine though. Also, I found out that the Electrical Engineering major at UCSB is only 10% female, so hopefully they accept me to balance that ratio out a little. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@yeheun Nothing’s changed; most majors in UCSB’s College of Letters and Sciences will offer you guaranteed admission if you complete a certain set of courses with the required GPA. They just got rid of TAG for engineering majors, though, so if you’re interested in that field you won’t have that option available to you anymore (at least for UCSB).

@ARandomPerson1‌ Actually, I just noticed that I’m missing two pre-req classes. UCSB is the only UC that requires Curcuits and two computer science courses from my school. I didn’t take circuits because I still needed the physics class (E&M) pre-req that would allow me to take it. For the computer science class, they require two courses and I only took one of them. I had poor performance in high school so instead of started on my calculus when I entered my CC, I started with College Algebra. That being said, it pushed back all my classes at least a semester or two and I wouldn’t have finished all pre-reqs unless I stayed for a third year. So, if UCSB is notoriously strict on pre-reqs as you stated before, then my chances drop significantly.
I think EC’s and essays play a good role in an admissions decision. That’s really low. I would’ve thought it was be more than that, at least 20%. I think that will strengthen your application!

Getting pretty nervous about tomorrow, hopefully we all hear good news :-SS should we check in the morning or after 3pm again?

I apologize for not being able to cite my source, but I made no note of it at the time and have been reading through a lot of data. I just wanted to share that UCSB released about one third (5700-plus) of its admission decisions in the first batch last Monday, March 16.

Any engineers staying up til 3am? I don’t think I will be able to sleep much tonight

If what @MaMoi77‌ saying is true, we’re only at bottom of 3rd inning guys! Don’t lose hope!
