Official Georgetown transfer thread fall 2013

MSB applicant! I got a missing materials notification, which surprised me because I submitted my test scores all the way back in January.

@rain202 I sent an updated resume a while back (Gtown said it was fine to do.). Just be sure to mail, not email, it to them relatively soon.

Also, is anyone requesting an early read on their application? I’m wondering if I should (The wait is killing me haha!).

^I probably am. I am thinking that I will call sometime during the first week of May.

Btw, what are your stats.

@SAT100

Freshman

Finance and Mathematics Majors

(I don’t want to reveal my university for privacy reasons, but I’m more than happy to share stats.)

College GPA: 4.0 in the honors program (18.5 hour couse load with two honors classes last semester)-Worked my butt off first semester to get this.

HS GPA: 3.97/4.0

ACT:33-34 (Depends on if they superscore or not) My score is what may hurt me.

College Activities: AKpsi Pledge Class President, [College] investment management association, [college] honor board (To name a few)

HS Activities: Founded my own investing club, president of honor board, and a lot of other things

I run my own stock portfolio (It’s a super time consuming job, not just a hobby).

I have completed three finance summer internships.

Volunteer work: A lot of different places and experiences

LORs-I was admitted as a transfer student to Wash U and UNC Chapel hill(out of state), so I think they were strong

Essays: Both were definetely creative, unique, and memorable.

**Sorry for being vague.

My first choice school would be Penn (Wharton), but I highly doubt I get accepted there or Georgetown MSB (Both with business school acceptance rates x<3%.).

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

^MSB acceptance rates<3%? No **** haha

@Pdquaker

I really don’t think MSB’s acceptance rate is that low. It is probably near 10%-15%, like the overall transfer acceptance. Your stats are above average compared to those listed on the Gtown transfer profile.

I don’t want to freak anyone out, but last year a few people posted on that year’s thread on April 23rd saying they had gotten in. That was a Monday, so if the trend continues some very good applicants might hear back in two days. If anyone hears back, can they post here so we can all know what’s going on?

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi I’m going to be a freshman in college fall 2013. I love Georgetown and it’s my dream school, but I got rejected.
My GPA in High School is currently 3.7/4.5 (in IB)
SAT was low: 1870/2400
SAT Subject tests: Math II (720), Spanish (800), Literature (500, I took it without studying)

My choices for a college are:
UC Santa Barbara (#43)
U Florida (#51)
Emory University (#20)

I am extremely motivated now and I know that I will be able to do really well where ever I go. The reasons for my bad grades was because of family issues and moving to three different high schools. I’m Greek/Costa Rican. I do rowing and speech and debate. I really want to transfer to Georgetown as soon as possible. Do you think it would be better to apply after two years in one of those universities or in one year? Do you also think I should re-take the SAT or ACT to elevate the score? Which choice of university do you think will strengthen my chances? and do you think they look at CC students better?

When they will release our decision???
I cannot sleep from now on…

:(…
Is there any specific requirement for MSB junior transfer? (Since I got rejected UVA mcintire because I have none credit for Foreign language…I am so scared…)

@pzzia I don’t think UVA has released decisions…

Yeap but I just called them and they told me “If you do not have foreign language requirements, It is not 100% rejection but you are not competitive compare to other”…

I think this is indirect way to saying rejection…

I talked with an admission officer today, and he hinted that gtown would start releasing decisions the middle of next week.

^Did you possibly ask about when we can start calling for early reads?

I think you need a legitimate excuse to get an early read. i.e. “I have a deadline I have to respond to at another school” or “I’m leaving the country.”

@pzzia777, I hope Georgetown doesn’t have a language requirement. I didn’t take a language class, though I am fluent in Chinese…

I did, the admission guy said typically they can start doing early reads in May (basically when they start sending out admission notifications).

You do need a legit reason, though, like transferAP said.

^Thanks for the info. I do have a legit reason since I have another school that I have a deadline for. I’d like to start planning as soon as possible.

Is there any specifically requirements for MSB students if im applying as a junior??? I was trying to find the business requirement but i cannot… Please help ke guys…

@Jay327
SFS students must pass the oral proficiency test to satisfy the language requirement. It’s not necessary to take language classes to satisfy this if you are a native speaker in a GU recognized language and can pass the proficiency exam.

I’m not familiar with MSB and COL language requirements, if any.

What’s the standard to pass?
