Too pass, the student must receive a satisfactory rating from a professor or from a tester in a range of topics which tests a students listening comprehension and fluency of speaking abilities; the test may cover politics, economics, social issues, food, countries, etc.

The exams are generally administered by the respective GU language departments. However, if the target language is not offered at GU or a GU faculty member does not speak the language, students can arrange a test with a recognized organization, entity, or non-GU professor which are considered authoritative in the target language.

Do they accept the DLPT (Defense Language Proficiency Test)? I have a current rating in Modern Standard Arabic. It rates you the same as the State Department testing on a 1-5 scale in listening, reading, and speaking. 1 - familiar, 3 - fluent, and 5 - native speaker. Usually for State department postings you have to have a 3/3 rating on a DLPT or the State equivalent. I’m just curious because if I get in and study a little but over the summer I could probably get back to a 3/3, if that’s the standard.

@transferAP
I don’t remember if DLPT scores will satisfy it. The online catalog should state if DLPT scores are acceptable. I’m currently overseas with slow internet so I can’t verify it.

Are you applying as a veteran (right out of the military)?

Hi SFS rules,could you give me an advice on my question, Is it okay to require an early read if I have schools that have a deposit due date on May 1st?

@Jelly
You can call the admissions office and relay your situation to them; you may receive an early read, but there are no guarantees. You have to understand this from GU’s perspective too; they don’t know whether you’re situation is genuine or not.

I don’t think GT cares whether it’s genuine or not but it’s probably harder to be accepted earlier because they haven’t seen as much of the candidate pool.

may/8 is the enrollment deadline for umd, which is my second choice…i hope i can hear my decision from gtown before then…it really sucks that some schools release their decision so early…

@Jay
Some schools are not as rigid about enrollment dates. You can always call and ask what their policy is. Sometimes they will give you an extension if have applications out at other schools. Some of the other schools I applied to have made exceptions for me.

I asked them today during my campus tour at umd, but the answer was no…I think im going to call their admissions office and hope for the best… What other schools did you apply if you don’t mind me asking?

GWU and CU Boulder. Boulder was the one that said they would give me an extension. They are really just a back up for me if GU and GWU say no. I haven’t heard anything from GWU yet. They are on the same schedule as GU. So a few more weeks until I hear from them.

I’m sure GU will give you an early read if that’s the case. I bet admissions is familiar with other schools policies. Especially if a lot of students apply to GU and that particular school…not sure if yours is one of those.

So according to last year’s earliest release of decision, which was on Friday the 27th, some of us can look forward to a decision mail from admissions this Friday, the 26th.

any news anyone???
It is just frustrating to continue this wait, a never ending it seems, I just want to know yes or yes so I can feel better !!! :)
