I know that if they were to call, it would be on my son's cellphone because that's the only number they have for him. I checked his common application and he put his cellphone number down twice. He didn't even have voicemail set up on his phone because he just never bothered to. It's set up now! I spent an excruiating 45 minutes on the phone with AT&T trying to get it to work.

he can get a detention along with his admissions call!
if that happens, I called it. you can call me shakespearean loser
hahahahahahaha

It would be great if they called while I am walking to class. I'll answer it even if a campus supervisor is around. If they hassle me then I'll tell them that they are welcome to take my cellphone as long as they allow me to get into Harvard first!

If I get a call from area code 617 I am probably gonna pass out.

If I get a call from any area code I'm gonna pass out.

You guys should just try not to have any real expectations; you wouldn't want to build your hopes up for nothing. :(

Good luck to everyone! :)

Someone on another website (like CC) said that his/her friend got off the waitlist. The lucky friend of him/her received a phonecall, but the person said she/he won't go to Harvard.... can this be???????

I mean ... are they calling ppl already?

Stories are easy to make up.

Apparantly the committee started assessing last Friday. Each application is looked at individually, and there may be 1000 of them. I doubt phone calls will be made until all have been assessed since all of waitlistees are qualified.

^^^ Agreed

Update: a friend of mine got a letter on Friday saying that if he keeps his grades up this semester, he will get off the waitlist. He is a special case because his dad went there and now is a professor. He's not going to go though, which is good for the rest of us :)

My son is also on the waitlist. did anyone see the NY Times article saying that harvard would accept 150 to 175 off the waitlist? Apparently, they got a lower than expected yield.

My kid received a personal note last week from his Harvard admissions regional/case officer (whom he's never met) thanking him for his letter updating the admissions office on his activities of the last few months and expressing his ongoing desire to attend Harvard. Is that standard? I.e. did everyone receive such a note?

haberdash,

I have not heard of that, especially for a waitlistee. Best of luck to you!

150 to 175 is a lot, more than other universities' waitlists, and there are close to 400 if you count P, Y, other elites. Because of the domino effect this is going to have I expect Harvard etc will need to make decisions soon as other colleges will need to inform their waitlist students and can't yet till they know how many they will lose. I think Columbia may already be done, though more openings could result there too.

I am very curious as to how this is going to turn out.
My D thinks she may be in the bottom of the pile as she didn't send any new information.

still nobody yet?

My counselor got a call Friday afternoon asking if I "wanted to be admitted." He said that meant I would get an offer of admission if I said yes.

Now I'm so conflicted... I feel happy that I got in but now I have no idea what to do. I committed at Dartmouth and I'm still really excited about it but I can't decide between them. I want to major in biology. Help?!

Congratulations txswimmer9!!!! That is amazing news. Also, congratulations to the parent who posted earlier.

No call here :(
