Official Harvard RD 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I applied to Yale EA and they did NOT send an e-mail right before decisions (it came like a month prior). I know it is off topic I just wanted to bring some clarity to you Yale hopefuls :)

^Thanks! :)

I have another question…do any of you guys know whether Harvard already finalized their decisions like done with the meetings? I read some comments by other people on cc and they said that admissions already decided on the RD applicants on the 20th. The weird thing is I just called Harvard today and they said that meetings are still going on…I’m dying to know.

^Surely they have finished. They have to have the packages in less than a week, so at this point there would not be enough time for the financial aid office to make those packages. I would assume they are finishing, or extremely close to finishing.

^ like they’ve said before, nothings final until the last moment of the last day. it’s crazy! I mean it’s such a personal process and they take it really seriously

The financial aid office gets exactly one week to compute packages. So, yes. They’re done.

Why do you call expecting them to tell you the details of their process? They are not going to tell you anything different from their standard responses. You can’t make the decision come to you any sooner, so relax. It’s a busy time for the admissions people so let them do their job. Remember they receive 30,000 applications. You’ll find out the decision when they send them out. I’ll get anxious on the 29th, no need to be anxious before then.

I haven’t gotten an email about decisions from Harvard, Yale, and Columbia, but I got a LL from Columbia so I’m led to believe that the ivies simply do it on their own time. :)

^ ur so
lucky! at least u knoe ur getting into one school!

@chilikeyboard Yes, I am extremely fortunate! On the other hand, the waitlisting from UChicago today left a nasty feeling in my stomach for HYPS. :/

ivethehope,

Congrats on Columbia! The process is so confusing though-I did not get a Columbia likely, yet I got into U Chicago and recieved a Dartmouth likely. Is the process completely arbitrary?? Common sense would lead me to believe that anyone getting a Columbia is more than deserving of a spot at Uchic as well as Dartmouth.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

The 29th is going to kill me. Not going to school on Friday!!! HAHA.

@powerfuldog Congrats on UChicago as well! and well idk. I got a likely from Columbia, Dartmouth, and Cornell, and got into MIT, but this just goes to show that different universities want different things I suppose? I accept that I can just as easily be rejected from the rest of the ivies, but one thing for certain, Thursday is going to be crazy…

^^ different schools look for different things! it’s always kind of a gamble … ur either what their looking for , or not. it’s almost bizzare!! I’ve heard of people getting into Yale or harvard and rejected from Princeton or Columbia… it just all depends. not that

any of the schools are lesser than others but just that results can be very odd. depend on the skool itself really.

I also got waitlisted in Unchicago, now I’m doubting my chances in HYP and my other schools. :(

Waitlisted at UC and GWU but accepted to Cornell AEM

ACCEPTED TO dartmouth, uchic, and williams.

BUT WAITLISTED at…SWARTHMORE.

I really don’t understand what’s going on. I don’t want to sound arrogant, but a kid who has the merit to study at Dartmouth should be eligible for Swarthmore as well. Well, TUFT’S SYNDROME + ASIAN DISADVANTAGE = ridiculously unfair college decisions.

HARVARD PLEASE MAKE MY FRICKIN’ DAY AND ACCEPT ME

Swarthmore and Dartmouth look for drastically different qualities in their applicants.
Another reason for this seemingly shocking decision might be the makeup of the already-accepted class: colleges want to build a diverse class, and it could be that you offered something Dartmouth was lacking and Swarthmore already had.
Besides, Williams is ranked #1 nationally for liberal arts colleges… I can’t think of much Swarthmore could offer that Williams can’t…

This really says nothing about Harvard’s decision…
the process is UNPREDICTABLE.

Same problem here; likely letters to Duke and UPenn but waitlisted at Wash.-St. Louis. Really, I don’t understand. But, Penn and Duke are terrific schools so I don’t really care! ^.^

You guys just got “tufted”.
I think so did I from Colgate…or at least hope that that’s the case.
