Official Harvard RD 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Yeah, I’m thinking that’s what happened for me at GW (waitlisted). Likely/early-write to Dartmouth and Smith, plus a STRIDE scholarship for the latter. Or it’s like classicgurll said, maybe they already had what we were offering. Ah well, it’s all good.

Anyone have any plans to distract them this week? I’m psyched for the Mad Men premiere tomorrow night. Also, I have morning-off half days Mon/Tues for state testing, so those will probably go by quickly. I might go see The Hunger Games again, because HOLY JESUS IT WAS GOOD

YES IT WAS!!! I can only see it so many times! I saw it today, and midnight, and I want to see it again! Why can’t the NCAAs start tomorrow so games will be on nonstop instead of between 4 and 9?!

I saw it at the midnight premiere too! I almost cried twice (which is huge, I don’t cry in movies too often) and I was literally shaking the entire movie. I mean, nigh-convulsing shaking. SO AMAZING. That cast is flawless. And Cato’s last scene? brb, drying

Because the NCAA is filled with sadists who like to play God and watch lesser people scream.

What is with these Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Princeton “reminders” specifically addressed to my son by name to be certain to check next Thursday on Ivy Day? Nothing from Harvard!

Hahaha theamazingemz, nice Juno quote thrown in there :)

I don’t think Harvard is reminding us because they just email decisions like Rice.

Going to jump on The Hunger Games talk… It was absolutely amazing. I cannot wait for Catching Fire… It was my favorite!

^of the books***

Same! I feel like Suzanne’s writing improved, and the new characters were awesome. Though I’m one of the few (or at least seemingly few) who actually liked Mockingjay, so. I’m just kind of obsessed with all of it. The entire concept of Panem and The Hunger Games and that level of despair and oppression absolutely terrifies me.

Any preference on who’s going to play Finnick? Tumblr’s been freaking out about it, haha.

Did anybody go to the midnight premiere?
I did!!!
Nice distraction from decisions.

Is it worth it to send in (somewhat minor-ish? I got a new academic-y job a few months back) application updates at this point? I just remember a quote about how they reopen your app if you send in updates.

At this point, nothing short of curing cancer will change the decision on your application.
Don’t let me stop you though…

@jkreine I did!!!

I went to the midnight premiere here in my country! (in Singapore now). A friend of mine watched it with one of the cast members… I’m insanely jealous haha

The Hunger Games movie was a bust. It started off well. The storyline was imaginative and engaging. However, it spiraled into a mawkish, redundant, and cheesy film. The whole supermodel, crying-female warrior, and kids-murdering-kids theme didn’t appeal to me. The actor who played Peter was uninspiring.

Don’t insult The Hunger Games! And it’s Peeta!

^Was my characterization not fair? lol The group I went with, consisting of a married couple and a buddy of mine, held similar sentiments of antipathy and tedium.

I sent an update yesterday about something that just happened. What’s the worst that could happen?

I thought the movie totally did justice to the book, personally. Peets was not attractive though :frowning: and all Liam Hemsworth did was give serious looks.

This seems to me to be one of those bandwagon movies that many like without really examining it with a critical eye and recognizing the uncogency of the execution. I’ve heard the books were much better.
