Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Hi Everyone~

I submitted my commonapp and supplement on Oct 28, and ordered my SAT scores to be sent on the same day. But as for now, the test score part still says unofficial…Anyone know if this is gonna be a problem? I mean i know it’s fine that they arrive after the deadline, but I just feel like the later they come, the more unlikely I am gonna get an interview…

Also, is anyone’s school using the Family Connection to sent in all the recs and school forms? On my Family Connection it says the forms are mailed and recs are completed, but on my common app it says they are “In progress”. Should I be worried? I live in a small town in Connecticut…Is it possible that the mailing is delayed by the snow? if the documents are not mailed electronically that is…

Thanks so much guys!

what do you do if you ran out of room where you are supposed to put SATII and AP scores?

Only 8 tests are allowed total and I took 3 SATII and 6 APs.

^Just gave my best ones

Sheep, I like how you already changed your location to Cambridge ;)

Hey Everyone,

I submitted my application on October 16th, and I still haven’t received any information on an interview. I live in the SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley, so there is no lack of Harvard alums to hold the interview. Am I alone in this situation?

FYI - my interviewer told me that the deadline for interview reports is Nov. 15. If you haven’t been contacted for an interview by then, there’s little chance you’ll ever get contacted…

Man, I really hope not. Nobody in my city has had an interview yet that I’ve heard of ): And we’re looking at another ten days or so before the online contingent that has yet to hear about an interview date.

Don’t worry for now. A lot can happen in ten days (and the alumni interviewers are very busy), so keep your phone on and check your email regularly.

Are we supposed to contact Harvard/ alumni to ask for an interview, or is the initial step taken by them?

You should wait for them to contact you first. Trying to contact the interviewer yourself is generally frowned upon - after all, the date/time of the interview really depends on their schedule.

I strongly doubt there’s a harvard alumni in my area anyways, so I’ll just wait and see :)

“deadline for interview reports Nov 15”
I know this not to be true…so relax and good luck to all

^ I’m just passing along what my interviewer told me… also, this deadline is for SCEA, not RD.

Hi guys, I applied from the US Virgin Islands. Submitted my apps around mid-October and I’m yet to be contacted by an interviewer, although I doubt there are any alums here or nearby. Is anyone applying from Puerto Rico or VI???

@calgirl: Either your interviewer is mistaken, or you misheard. Depending on what region you’re located in, the absolute final deadline for SCEA interview reports are due on a date some time between Nov 30 and December 7–the period when the full committee meets to make final decisions. In an ideal world of course, interviewers should submit as soon as possible…

@calgirl…I believe that your interviewer told you that, but not sure why…maybe Nov 15 is the goal, but it is not the final deadline for SCEA applications.

Oh, I see. My interviewer actually emailed me, and I didn’t misread his message either (just double-checked the original email). The subject was brought up because I’m currently not in the U.S. He was asking whether I would be back in time for the Nov. 15 deadline - which you have stated is not a strict deadline at all. So perhaps his particular region was aiming to get all the reports in by the 15th. But this is good to know.

When they meet for RD, isn’t it from March 1st to March 22nd or 23rd? So one week versus three… roughly 10,000 apps for EA?:)

I would wager that a large portion of SCEA applications actually face the full committee than do those in RD.

“All required documents have been received. Thank you.”

Most beautiful words I have ever heard in my entire life :D
