Any awesome ideas for Dec 15? What’s your plan if you get accepted/deferred/rejected?

To quote the words of the immortal Lonely Island
Get rejected (like a boss!)
Swallow sadness (like a boss!)
…
I don’t know what to do next.

I don’t think there will be any WL’s for EA. Deferral is probably the EA equivalent for WL.

I saw an “Admitted Students” link on the left side (not quite at the corner) of the status page, clicked it, and saw this:

Perhaps the site was discontinued after the 2009 admissions cycle?

Thank you, RarissimaAvis!

Oops, I didn’t know I said waitlisted…I meant to say deferred.

@314159265358979, good point…hmmm

That thread was extremely depressing. It seems like only URM and poor people get in. Their accomplishments are amazing, don’t get me wrong, but it seems like they’re the only ones who get a break when it comes to test scores. sigh

@pi, yeah I was reading another discussions page from back when early action was still available…I guess that’s gone now. People from last year were also talking about logging in. Maybe it is the regular old status page…

@collegeinfo, isn’t Harvard income-blind or something, though? (Also, I lolled at your continuation of pi!)

If I get rejected or deferred I’ll probably cry a little and spend the rest of the day actually looking for safety schools for a poor international student living in the US. I hope Colgate is one! If I get accepted I will also cry, post a Facebook status in all caps, and buy a Harvard sweatshirt

Sent from my LG-P509 using CC App

If I get rejected, I’ll be a miserable tumor for a few days of Winter Break. I will probably write a terrible treatise blaspheming private schools kids, athletes, and legacies. Then, I’ll begin hyperventilating about getting into a school.

If I get deferred, I will be relieved/stressed as balls.

If I get accepted, I will basically pull an Interficio.

I actually bought a Harvard t-shirt the other day ($12 and free shipping, so why not?), so I’m hoping I get in…otherwise, it’s going to charity. -_-

Though, if I get deferred, it’s staying in its packaging until March 31. :P

Yep, but not race-blind.

I think I may be reading too much into this, but my November SAT II scores haven’t been updated on my applicant status page, even though I listed Harvard as a recipient and they were supposed to have received it a few days ago. (Thank goodness, though - they were a lot lower than I was expecting.) Does this mean something? I’m wondering if the fact that mine hasn’t been updated means that they already made a definite decision on my file (i.e. either accepted or rejected)…

I requested mine to be sent Oct 14th and they were only received three weeks later, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I don’t think it means they have made a definite decision.

Anyway… When the time comes, how do we actually check whether we are accepted/deferred/rejected? Will they send us an email or is there a site to check?

We will all get emailed, though probably not exactly at the same time.

My D was accepted to Harvard last year and she received the e-mail at 11:30pm. We live on the West Coast.

sebelius: straight up.

collegeinfo1994: I totally failed my SAT Subject Tests, like we are talking…not even in the 700’s. So I just scoured that results thread for hours hoping to find one person who had crappy test scores and was both white and a non questbridge finalist and/or legacy. nothing. saddest day of my life.

pylades: i am with you.

except based on the aforementioned stalking I feel as though a deferral is little better than a rejection. they take only a very small percentage of deferred kids in the regular round. :(

Jaysha, did you take the November SAT IIs? Have they been updated on your applicant status page? Mine haven’t been updated yet, and though LordAsiaMajor said his/her SAT scores weren’t sent until early November (presumably), I listed Harvard as a recipient for the November scores…

“isn’t Harvard income-blind or something, though?”

Yes, “need-blind” in the sense that they don’t eliminate an applicant because his or her income is too low, but they explicitly state(in mail I’ve received and on their website) that they want to build a “socially and economically diverse class.” Poverty is, therefore, a plus in the admission process.

@RarissimaAvis, I did that on purpose Didn’t expect anyone to notice, though. haha. By the way, I noticed the word “sima” in your username. That’s a persian name! Is that a coincidence or do you happen to be Persian, too?

Ah, it’s going to be a long 20 days… My only solace is that at least now I don’t have to wonder about testing. Also, I was perusing “A is for Admission” and I was wondering, does Harvard still use a system like that?

Harvard says that they’ll start sending e-mails after 5 PM EST on the 15th.

Just curious, what academic interest did everyone put down as their top choice? I wonder if the EA pool has more math/science kids or social science/humanities types. I put down political science, myself.

I put political science as well.

Question is out of topic, but I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.
Ok, so the deadline for Harvard application is Jan., 1st, but they advise you on sending in you app before Dec., 15th. WHY not just make one deadline? If you’re applying before Dec.15th, does that mean teachers have to fill in their reporst about the student and upload it before this date? Or they can do it before Jan.1st? Which parts of the application would be ok submit after Dec., 15th?

And when are you guys going to submit your app?
Please help me! Soooo confused!!!
