Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@sail3115 yeaa…I hope they don’t do that either. I want to consider Japanese as minority for that reason, but I am not sure about that.

@TheRealFake: Yeah, I live pretty close to Cambridge. When I sent Harvard my arts supplement, I used online tracking, and H received it the next day.

@rarissimaavis I also sent in a supplement and tracked it with UPS. It said that Harvard received it but did you ever confirm that your supplement was put on your file? I tried emailing Harvard but they just gave me an automated response and never confirmed for me. When I called, the lady said that she could not check. But, one of my other friends had hers checked so… idk.

i don’t get it. Why wouldn’t they download the supplement?

Did anyone at all have their supplements downloaded? Or does it simply says completed?

^ if you’re referring to what we were saying these are research/art supplements

for the Harvard supp in general, the general consensus on cc is that common app is weird and all of our apps say downloaded while the supplement does not. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

Hey Everyone do you guys think the adcoms finalized their decisions yet?

If Harvard’s website says all your documents have been received, then they have.

For research/arts supplements, your best bet is to track whether it’s been delivered. I thought that Harvard doesn’t confirm whether it’s been received though. I also sent my research paper to my interviewer because she asked about it, so hopefully that helped me out. She said she was going to send it to her friend who does work in my field…yikes, haha.

Does anyone know if the early action decisions have been finalized? :)

I think it was said earlier that EA decisions are finalized by the full committee on December 7th, though changes are not truly “final” until they’re sent out. I’ve heard that decisions have been changed at the last minute, but it’s not a very common thing.

Hey, kiwi! I was born in Wellington, NZ. Lived in Australia for six years, Canada for one, and Texas for ten. (:

@sail3115 & kentawata

yay fellow nihon-jin
I was actually getting pretty lonely over here thinking I may be the only japanese EAer.

are you guys applying as domestic applicants or international?

I’m from Canada! Any other Canadian SCEA’ers on here?
Anyway, to answer the languages question, I speak French and some (mostly oral) Swahili. :)

Hey everyone!
Quick question here… in the “future plans” in the CommonApp for Harvard I checked the box that I was applying for financial aid.
If I am only going to be applying for federal financial aid, should I have still sent to Harvard all of the financial aid forms and such anyways?

I’m just kind’a freaking out b/c if they needed those forms, I figure I would have received an e-mail from the FA by now, but I haven’t. I just hope that doesn’t mean I was rejected ;PP

^^ YEEEEEE

Not exactly “international” by the traditional out-of-the-country sense… -.-… wonder if my app was evaluated with apps from virginia or from central america?

@Billyshakes93 I’m Japanese too! I heard Harvard had a disproportionately small Japanese population; I hope that means we have an advantage over Continental folk.

It’s getting a lot harder to wait now that a lot of kids have their early results… however I’m getting more nervous because a 4.0/2400 kid I know with USAMO 2x, Physics Olympiad, MUN and Varsity Soccer was rejected by Stanford EA, and a 3.96/2360 kid rejected from UPenn ED… I don’t know what I will do with a rejection. I am praying I at least get deferred (of course accepted would be ideal).

I wonder why Harvard defers so many applicants when they know they’ll only take around 1-2% (?) of them during the regular round.

@collegeinfo1994 How much percentage of the REA applicants do you think will be deferred?

Hey guys, quick question:

I realize everyone has been counting down the days until December 15th, but how do we know the emails will be sent then? On the login page of the “Application Status” website, it says the website’s services are only open for early action applicants until the 13th…could that mean the emails will be sent on the 13th? My friend who applied ED to Brown said their results come out on the 13th…I’m just wondering if that is a possibility. Not many other colleges seem to abide by the 15th as their day for sending letters too (Stanford/UPenn/Dartmouth etc.). Just thought I’d ask to see if anyone knows!
