Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I have a general question for everyone. Last summer I worked for my Congressman in D.C. for 9 weeks. Its usually an undergrad position and I got him to write me a recommendation letter. Do you think a letter from a U.S. Representative will have much weight at Harvard??? First post btw. I’ve been creepily observing for quite some time though… . . . .(-_____-)

@hanthemanaintgon love the Princess Bride quote!

@VirginnianRobin
Thanks a bunch. I hope the letter conveyed me well.

It’s funny how I can guess the ethnicity of the student very accurately when i was scanning the results threads of other schools…LOL

i just hate how people think i can get in because i have a sister who’s a freshman at harvard. i never heard anything about sibling legacies though, so it’s BS

^ omg, i have sibling legacy also…
everyones like you got this in the bag
but sibling legacy is NOT legacy.-_________-". sadly.

i ALSO have a sibling. . .ftw. And although its not a legacy, I met one of the Harvard reps and they said “while it is not officially a legacy, we do take a look at the entire family. . .”. I know its kind of vague but i think it does help a bit. :smiley: maybe. . .

^ ahh… that gives me so much hope! hahah. My sibling is doing pretty well there too… hopefully they will notice.
i’m completely fretting over thursday 24/7

hahahaha. me too. I’m assuming if you have a sibling there, your family basically worships Harvard? And Harvard jackets, mugs, and Christmas ornaments constantly remind you of your possibly cruel fate? Or is it just me?

nah my parents could care less about harvard. my dad thinks it’s just a name, and means nothing. but still…regardless, it’s hard to understand how they do these selections…i’ve heard of people getting in with 2100’s, just like i have heard 2400’s getting rejected

haah actually not really… i have a harvard sweater (which i havent worn for the past few months), but that’s about it.
of course my parents are DYING for me to be accepted as well, though.

@power4good
Me too! It’s so unfair. You can’t look at all the results and say that race is not a factor. It’s sad, but true.

I reallyyyy want a Harvard sweatshirt. But they’re pretty expensive and I don’t want to have one if I get rejected. It would just make me sad. After I get in (positive outcomes only!), I’ll get a sweatshirt. :slight_smile: that’ll be my christmas present heheh:)

How important is legacy in the decision making? :/

hey guys, I applied EA, and I have an interview tomorrow. Decisions are supposed to come out this week… what do you think this means?

^^how important? there is no place for you to indicate that on the application…is there?

Edit: 100th post!! woohoo!! so muh time wasted on CC

^ what… i thought they were done with decisions…
how do you have an interview?
is this online or in person? with alumni? or… a representative?

what time does the decision e-mail come out?

@hellokitt, decisions are coming out, and i STILL havent had an interview.lol.

^It comes out the 15th, at 5 PM EST.

@hellokitt It’s pretty strange that you have an interview tomorrow given that decisions are coming out three days later. Unlikely, but possible. I suppose this means that the committee was on the edge with your application, so the interview will probably be pretty important in deciding your admission.

Yeah, it was totally unexpected. I have an alumni interview; I’m going to her house. I dunno if this is true, but I heard that HYP are all releasing on the 15th. Websites only said “mid-December” though

@bananafreak, maybe you were auto-accepted without one ;P
