@CODEOFCONDUCT please you don’t know WHAT you are talking about. athletes at any university (not just Harvard) always sign and get in. But to say that ONLY athletes are getting in is just ridiculous (all 800…)! You sound not only ridiculous but ignorant. Your speculation about Harvard admission is in fact false.

@Code of Conduct

Yeah, right.

I’m glad I’m not the only one against his trolling! I think everyone on this forum has a very legitimate shot, and I think many of you will be accepted.
I don’t know that for sure, thigh, so don’t hold me to it! Y’all just seem very intellectually curious!

While I am as nervous as you guys and hope I can hold hands of yours to let the time pass, my child is like=why do you even want to think of it if you can’t do anything about it? He is having fun, reading book, doing homework, running, stay on bed till noon during weekends…whatever he does in his normal life. I admire his calmness. I guess all of you should have the same attitude if you are Harvard materials. Relax and enjoy life. If you can’t do anything, forget about it and be happy.

In regards to what CODEOFCONDUCT said, at least at my school many of the recruited athletes know that they will get in and would rather have the leisure of extra time to apply, so they DIDN’T apply early to schools. I highly doubt the majority of the applicants accepted early will be athletic recruits. I agree with the others in that what CODEOFCONDUCT is probably a ■■■■■, and thank you nocensure for your motivating comment! I haven’t really been posting much but I follow this thread religiously. From the looks of things, I think many of you have a really good shot of getting in and I wish everyone the best of luck!!

@leighearth: So you’re saying we’re not “Harvard materials,” if we’re here discussing. Okay, but I’m not buying that. I don’t know about anyone else, but at least for me, this forum actually decreases my stress. I actually like having a cyber community where people are sharing similar feelings. I’m sure most of us are still having our normal lives. All of us aren’t here 24/7.

there arent even 800 athletic recuits… there are what, 41 varsity teams? cmon man. i say about 200 athletic recruits-ish

^At max. Most ARE probably waiting until the RD deadline.

@Avis I second that! It is really nice to know that you are not alone, and that you can conspire about the inner workings of admissions with lots of other people!

Code of Conduct is partially correct. Recruited athletes for D-1 schools are almost always in the early pool. The smaller the number accepted early the larger the percentage they make up in the acceptances. While not all 800 will be athletes, I suspect it will be a very significant number. Most athletes that apply have a very good sense that they will get in (they are pre-screened). Add to that legacy and URM into the early action pool, slots available for others are very limited (Yale is a great example, good luck trying to get in there early without a significant hook!).

If the stress is reduced when you come here to discuss, please come. I guess I was trying to help.

@leighearth

Telling us not to stress because we “can’t do anything about it” is like telling people in a car that’s hurtling off a cliff not to panic, because it won’t help them.

At the very least, here we can all panic together.

Agreed. Its so strange to think that somewhere in Cambridge, there is a piece of paper or file with our decision already written on it. This doesn’t stop me from praying though hahahhahhaha.

How’s everyone doing? My attitude over the last couple of weeks has been the not-holding-my-breath-but-not-pessimistic type. Less than 3 days to go! EEEK!!!

Ahhhhh I’m so nervous. I’ve never been this nervous about anything in my life, haha (then again, I don’t think I’ve ever faced anything this monumental before :P). I’m pretty much the same way. Hoping for deferral - definitely can’t bring myself to hope for outright acceptance, but can’t completely accept rejection yet, either.

@BettyTr
Assuming that URMs and legacies are automatic admits is simply inaccurate. I know plenty of legacies who have been deferred and then waitlisted (or, during the years without SCEA, just waitlisted). I’ve even known some to be rejected completely. Neither of these categories guarantees admission - while they are a boost, candidates need to be qualified regardless of hook.
Perhaps I’m overly anxious and prematurely bitter, but it irritates me when people make sweeping generalizations like that.

@perry: Yes, conspire is the right word. :)

Plus, I’ve been getting so much help from everyone, it’s great! This is different from talking to my school friends. You’re all such wonderful people. Keep it up!

I never said that legacies or URMs are “automatic admits”. They do have an impact on early pools (significanly more than regular decision pools) however.

wow less than 3 days! People are either stressing and becoming increasingly pessimistic or relaxing and taking each minute by minute, hour by hour. I think when we speculate about URMs and athletes, we stress ourselves out more. If it meant to be then it is meant to be. We all should breath and just stop complaining about URMs and athletes…

@BettyTr
“Add to that legacy and URM into the early action pool, slots available for others are very limited”
That sounds an awful lot like “they’re automatic admits” to me.
I apologize if I’m being rude; that misconception just bothers me. (Your Yale example, too - plenty of people get into Yale early each year without hooks of any kind.)

@gymqueenwork
I agree speculation is useless. It sounds cheesy, but I can honestly say that you all sound like wonderful people. Each and every one of you deserves a shot at Harvard, and really, no one can ask for anything more.

I never sent in financial aid forms, but they told me that would not affect my admissions, just the date when I get my financial aid package (if I get it). But I read somewhere some people have gotten emails if they were missing financial aid forms. If I didn’t get an email does that mean I was denied? Sorry to bother everyone, this is a high stress moment haha! Thanks in advance!

hey guys! I’ve been following this post for some time, and it’s been getting my nerves wrecked, but i am having fun nonetheless.
Anyway, I got an email today from the Chicago Area Harvard College Schools Committee inviting me to attend a Christmas party to “meet with current Harvard undergraduates for a discussion of contemporary Harvard College life.” Have any of you received such contact? should i take this as a good sign? thanks a lot for your two cents
