Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2017

I just submitted the supplement and payment. Hopefully submitting the app tomorrow morning before Hurricane Sandy comes knocking :)

@shelly318 for 90% of the time about extra curriculars and 10% of my school academics

In how many days did you received your interviewer? Are you international student?

Foundered mentioned this already - “I remember reading about a hidden Harvard supplement for counselors that is separate from the common app school report. Does anyone know if this still exists, and where to find it?”

Well, anyone?

EDIT: Checked on the website, and this no longer seems to be the case - they say that an application should either be made on-line or through the mail, so I guess what was the hidden supplement must now also be available on-line.

Lol sandy is such a ■■■■■

I’m about to submit, and I don’t know why, but I feel really pessimistic right now. It’s kind of hard to work on something like this application for such a long time and know that the chance of succeeding is slim. I’ve accepted that I most likely will not get in. But to be honest, I’ve learned a lot about myself by writing these essays and I know that I’d be happy even if I got rejected :)

Time to submit! Good luck to everyone!

@runnerxc Don’t feel pessimistic! Harvard is full of people who got in without expecting to. Hopefully that will be us next year! Haha…

Does anyone know if Harvard is going to extend their deadline? It shouldn’t be a problem for me; I was just wondering and couldn’t find anything on their website. I know that at this point, at least Penn, Columbia, Yale, and Duke have extended their EA/ED deadline.

[Harvard College Admissions § Announcements](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/announcements/sandy.html)

“With the approach of Hurricane Sandy here on the East Coast of the United States, we want you to be aware of our longstanding flexibility on Early Action and Regular Action deadlines for submitting applications and supporting materials from teachers and guidance counselors. If there is a good reason for not being able to meet a deadline (whether it be a natural disaster such as Hurricane Sandy or a personal challenge), we are happy to accept late applications and support materials. All you and your recommenders need to do is explain the reason in a brief note to fileroom@fas.harvard.edu.”

I would recommend getting it in as soon as you can.

I should be submitting my app tomorrow. I feel like my whole life has led up to this and frankly, it makes me a little nauseous. :P

Although I just got a positive critique of my personal essay, so I’m feeling a little bit better. I decided not to submit an additional essay on the supplement so I need this one to be good.

@ilovebooks I feel the exact same way, its like weve been preparing all these years, and finally its the big moment, best of luck to all!

I had that same nauseous feeling, iluvbooks94. I felt nauseous yet relieved. I remember a guy from my school got into Harvard the same year I was a freshman. It was a big deal since our school rarely sends kids to Ivies. He came back the next year and talked to one of my classes about Harvard. I’ve been in love with the school since 10th grade, so hitting the submit button was a pretty big deal. But I’m not going to let myself be disappointed if it doesn’t work out :)

It felt so weird for me when I hit the submit button. I’ve literally been thinking about Harvard ever since I stepped into high school, and the fact that they have my app and everything and that they are sitting down and looking through it is kind of mind-blowing. I’m getting a little pessimistic too though at this point especially looking at last year’s acceptance rate. But as my AP Lang teacher told me last year “just enjoy the process. you’ll end up going to a great school one way or another” :)

I can’t wait to finish preparing the rest of my apps in case I don’t get accepted to Harvard in December. There are so many books I want to read and things I want to learn how to do, but I don’t have the time xD

Does anyone know about submitting common app forms and/or cover letters for Harvard supplemental materials? I’m submitting an arts supplement with a letter from my instructor, and a letter from a scientific research mentor. I was planning to just send them as is, and I gave the research person an envelope so he will send that on his own. Is anything else necessary? (I don’t even know, common app # or something?)

@luv2dance Yeah, before I had my person submit her supplementary recommendation I called the admissions office and they said to put your name, high school name, and common app ID if possible.

@shelly318 thanks so much! I’ll definitely ask my instructor/mentor to do that.

Did we have to get a rec from our instructor/supervisor if we submitted an arts supplement? I just submitted my visual art portfolio in slide format, and the website said to just include the cover letter with the number of slides on it in addition.

No you didn’t, don’t worry; mine just offered to write me one :)

My guidance counselor told me it could be a good thing if you don’t get an interview, has anyone else heard that (I’m confident they wouldn’t reject me without an interview, so maybe it’s between interviewed and accepted without an interview?)?

Also, if I live in Boston, will I still do an alumni interview, or will I be interviewed by an actual admissions officer?
