Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2017

Thanks  I am actually so nervous… but who isn’t?

Yeah, I’m with sunspot112.

Is it a bad sign if Harvard hasn’t called the school to ask about my first-quarter grades?

Or do most admits get in without such a call? In other words, are those calls only for very border-line applicants with an uneven academic record?

yeah, i second that question. someone plz answer if u know.

Does anyone know what the acceptance letters look like?

I can’t answer the question re whether the calls re first-quarter grades are reserved for “very borderline applicants with uneven academic records” (though I find most such generalizations to be inaccurate). I can say that neither my D (a URM female) nor her classmate (a white male) received such call last year and both were accepted SCEA. They shared the same counselor.

Well, I have a high GPA and an even academic record…which is why I was sort of confused they requested my senior grades.

Maybe other parts of your app more borderline? Or they’re deciding between you and your long lost twin?

What about if the school sent my senior grades automatically? Do they just automatically download them? Because my common app says they were downloaded.

Yo, if I sent in my own published book of poetry to admissions would it have been reviewed by someone who knows poetry, or simply taken a look at by an admissions officer?

I’ve been creeping on the Stanford threads and I feel absolutely horrible for them. At least we have a date, and now they have to wait until next week.

That’s actually really cool. I sent my published music. From what I have read from there site is that the have professors,in the field of the supplement you submitted, review your work.
For me, a music teacher would probably review my work. For you probably a teacher in language arts

Thank you. I dont think you should assume that you won’t get in. Think positive but treat rejection as an opportunity to do better and go further. I am a physician (cardiologist). Didn’t go to the ivy league but got an excellent education at state school. If you plan to go beyond undergraduate then no one really cares where you went to school. If you plan to set up your own business, no one cares. After you get your first job, no one cares. It is exciting to go to a school that is ranked number one in the world. But it is what you do with your education not what they do . I tell that to my D. Sorry about the long lecture.

I have a feeling that requesting first quarter grades only means they are still trying to make a decision and add one more factor. Or perhaps they have to decide between you and another applicant and you guys are so equally matched that one more factor is necessary.

I asked this question earlier, and I’m not sure if anyone saw, but I’m wondering what happens if my school sent my senior grades automatically? Do they just automatically download them? Because my common app says they were downloaded. Or, as in the case of requesting them, do they only download the grades if you are borderline?

Lol I’m so glad my school has a semester system so I’m not worried at all haha

^shelly I don’t know the answer to your question, but if your common app says they are downloaded, someone from Harvard probably filed it (whether they actually cared about your grades or not is a diff. question I can’t answer)

Lol my grades werent requested (thank god!). Senior year’s been real rough and unlike the majority of CC I do not have an amazing work ethic.

How do you know if your senior year grades were requested without just asking your counselor?

Also, does them not requesting your senior year grades pretty much mean they’re not interested? Or is it a good thing?

Sorry, I’m pretty confused.

@amontobin No, its pretty rare to have grades requested. I have a lot of friends who sucked their first two years and are now having their grades requested to see if they kept up w/ the ambition or if it’s a fluke (like for state schools). Other than that, I basically agree that it’s for candidates who they need one more factor to make a decision. Although really, if they were undecided they would most likely defer and just wait for the end of 1st semester report.

So, grades not being requested could be seen as a extremely slight positive, then?
Anyways, we’ll see in 6 days.

At least my first quarter grades were good. I just thought it was strange because they emailed and called for them. Definitely didn’t think that Harvard did stuff like that.

Less than a week left! Let’s hope for the best and expect the worst.
