Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2017

It says that my recommendation letters and secondary school report are not received, even though it says downloaded by college on common app!

Is this usual? Is anyone calling to ask? I just got my access code yesterday also, so could that be the reason?

Is Harvard always this late processing materials?

It says all of my required materials have been received. I submitted everything in early October and my recs were downloaded on the 15th so that’s probably why.

I actually called earlier today and they said that it takes a few days to process everything for each applicant, and they only started processing the common apps and supplements yesterday. So, it will be another 4-7 days for the recommendations/school report.

If they don’t get all school materials by November 1st will they throw away your app? My counselor is really slow…

@shelly318 you just saved me from having a heart attack!

@foundered they said that they will contact you if they have missing application materials but I would assume that they would not consider the application if anything is missing

So, for people that have gotten emails from their interviewers, when are your interviews? My interviewer contacted me yesterday and I just saw it today, so I think mine might be either this weekend or early next week.

This might sound stupid, but how are you all dressing for the interview? Mine is at a coffeeshop and my interviewr said that the interview is meant to be “casual”, so does that still mean that I should adhere to dressing formally?

I got the call this weekend and my interview is tomorrow night. He said we needed to have it before November 1st. Since it’s at his house I’m going to be wearing slacks and a tie, but I assume you don’t have to be as formal for a coffeeshop interview. A button-up shirt would be good (if you’re a guy).

if you turn in everything the 30th or 31st will it be late because they take a while to download, or will it still be considered on time?

^THIS. Does anyone know?

I walked into the admissions office today and all of the receptionists were tied up on long, frantic calls from high schoolers. I was in your position last year. Everything will be fine.

As a general rule in life, don’t wait until the last minute. Why can’t you submit your commonapp earlier (not asking anyone to answer, just answer it to yourself).

I know you guys will be panicking regardless. It’s an endless cycle. You should really take the advice of someone who’s been in your place before (and in my case, also the place where you want to be.)

Figured I’d visit this page as I remember that my D frequented it quite a bit at this time last year.

@cpu–I hope you’re enjoying freshman year and midterms went well. Maybe my D has run into you.

@hello/hpyscm–My D applied on the 31st last year. The secondary school report and SAT grades were not submitted at that point. She was accepted.

@foundered–Not sure why the interview has to take place before 11/1 (my D’s interview was definitely mid-November). My D wore slacks and a top (not as nice as a blouse, but not a t-shirt). Her friends thought she was too casual. Her classmate (the only other student at her school to be accepted to H last year) played it safer. He wore slacks, a shirt and a tie. D’s interview was at a home. Her classmate’s was at Starbucks.

Good luck all. As cpu said, everything will be fine.

Am I right in assuming that the people running the file room are a group totally distinct from the one making admissions decisions? As in, if I (unintentionally) bother the file room making sure all my supplemental stuff got there and was added to my application, the admissions officers won’t necessarily know about it/be annoyed by me?

Speaking of which, how can we make sure that the supplemental materials we sent (like an arts supplement) have been received and filed?

I assume one only gets an acknowledgement of application once one’s sent in the Common Application. Is this right?

Harvard SCEA!! though at this point I’ve pretty much psyched myself out enough that I’m expecting not to get in. Oh well, it is Harvard :)

Regular decision:
Princeton, Columbia, Penn, UChicago, Northwestern, WashU, Georgetown
Possibly Yale. and UNC Chapel-Hill and U of Miami as safeties!

Thanks bcisaidso. Makes me feel a bit more reassured haha. What are all of you guys majoring in? I’m going physics!

Sent my application and research supplement in two weeks ago. :D

Currently going back and forth between Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology and Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. Small bio departments (relative to neuro and MCB) and amazing research and professors. History of Science looks good too.

I’m honestly expecting a deferral come mid-December, but meh. I’ll send my RD applications then. :P

Did I hear another Oxford application somewhere? :D

Are people withholding their RD apps until after hearing from Harvard? On a related note, do people know the notification date?

I am going to wait to see what Harvard say before I apply to any other US uni’s. The notification date is around the 15th December (http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/early.html</a>) , so I guess that’s not leaving a lot of time to write essays/finish supplements for other universities.

Hi i sent my LORs and SSR by post (i’m from India) and DHL said that the package had been received on monday. The application website says that they haven’t received it and i’m freaking out because November1st is right around the corner. Should I call them up to find out or is this normal?
