Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

Oh god, you guys are making me feel super guilty. Should probably start mine…

I’ve been stuck in an exam session for the past 3 weeks… Thanks a lot, SA school curriculum. I’ll have all of three weeks between tomorrow (the end of exams) and finals (the next exam session X_X) to finesse and submit this application.
Phew.

Needless to say, I’m a little jealous of certain posters-- skieurope and cx500r…

Wow, @skieurope‌ @cx500r‌ How does it feel to be done with it? Are you fully satisfied with your essays, etc.? No regrets? Anxiously waiting for December to get closer?! Lol I’m only curious as I’ll be doing this in exactly one year. haha

@PoisonIvy20 I’m happy with my essays; I’ve been working and reworking them since last Spring, so they were as good as they were going to be. I’m glad to be done with it, but now I’m still fine-tuning my RD application in case my early deadline schools do not work out.

Ahh, I really hope I get into Harvard. That would be a dream come true.

Is it bad if I submit my application on November 1?
Also I’m eligible for the fee waiver but I have no idea what to do. Can someone help me?

@HPClee‌ - It’s not bad at all. It is the deadline, after all. A senior in my school applied RD and submitted her applications literally 30 minutes before the deadline. She was accepted to 4 Ivies, including Harvard…

Also, RE: fee waiver… talk to your guidance counsellor. If you prove to s/he that you are eligible, you can tick it off on your Common App. If the school has any doubts, they’ll check with your school to confirm.

@WooTheDay‌ I showed my counselor proof but are there any forms I have to fill out by a certain date?

@HPClee‌ There’s nothing you need to submit directly to colleges to prove you’re eligible for a fee waiver. You just need to sign your electronic signature on the payment page of the Common App and admissions officers confirm directly with your school.

@WooTheDay‌ So once I sign the Fee Waiver signature on the common app I don’t have to pay to apply to any school?

@skieurope‌ @cx500r Even you submit your application a month before deadline, that just your part, not including teachers’ recommendation letter and transcript, right?

@poisonivy20 I’m also really happy to just be done with the application once and for all. Not exactly anxious, but definitely excited about getting the news in mid-December, though I am not too hopeful… @cherryli2015 I know my teachers and school submitted even before I did, as I gave them the links even before school started, but I believe that only an applicant’s part has to be in by the deadline.

@cx500r, your school and your teachers are so supported. I heard that many teachers will wait to the last minute to submit their recommendation letters.

BTW, I am curious to know whether there is a way in common app that can let us check the status of teachers recommendation letters. My daughter invited her teachers to write her recommendation letters 2 weeks ago through her high school’s Naviance system. Now from Common App, I found that under “Harvard/Recommenders and FERPA portion”, there is a green check beside “Counselor”, and a yellow dot beside “Teacher”. What does that mean? Does that mean that the counselor has already submitted the recommendation letter, but the teachers have not submitted yet?

@2019mom, if you go to Harvard application, (not common app) you should be able to see “submitted”, which means the teacher has submitted, or “requested” which means you’ve requested but the teacher hasn’t done it yet.

@cherryli2015 My teachers’ recommendations and transcripts are also submitted. I solicited recommendations last Spring so that they would be ready to be sent in September.

@nomatterwhat We have already used Common App. If go to “Harvard application”, I think we have to create an account for it. But my question is: Do people have accounts for both “Common App” and “Harvard application” ? If they do, will Harvard know that it is the same person in two application systems?

I

“I have already submitted my application”

Lol I feel like a bum who is not serious enough! Anyway great job to those of you have submitted yours.

@2019mom, I don’t know how you all did it, but I created a list of “My colleges”. You add Harvard to it. Then you see Harvard application stuff. From there, I could see the LORs I requested, and who has submitted it.

Hey everybody! I’m pumped to be applying to Harvard SCEA this fall! I’m really interested in applied mathematics, and I love Harvard’s special applied math concentration (economics, biology, etc.). I also really love the friendly housing setup-seems really easy to make friends and keep them. In other terms, I love to ski and meet new people. Best of luck to you all!!!

@nomatterwhat Did you create you college application account from “Common App” or “Harvard application”?

“Common App” – https://www.commonapp.org/Login</a>
“Harvard application” – <a href=“Universal College Application - ApplyWithUs”>https://uca.applywithus.com/apply/to/harvard</a></p>
