Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

As the person who posted the likely letter, I actually popped into the admissions office today just to double check. They said that although the 11th is the date on the letter, they cannot be 100% sure as they may have to take an additional day to discuss further with the committee etc. but it will most likely be the 11th, the 12th if need be, and definitely before the 15th.

I wish you all the best of luck!!

Yey! Four days earlier! I’m so impatient!
Wish you all good luck!

Any suggestions on what to wear to my interview? It’s at a local coffee shop, would black jeans and a blue button up shirt work or would it be too plain? Btw I’m a girl. I would go with a dress but it’s a little cold for that.

Hey guys! Does anyone know when can I expect to be contacted for an interview if I submitted my application on friday? (I live in Canada, so according to H’s website I should be directly contacted by an interviewer)

Anyone in the same boat as me and not fill out a CSS profile before the due date? I found out that it’s optional (if you would like to have your financial aid estimate in your acceptance package). I just felt no need to spend the $25 on CSS when i don’t even know if i’m into the school. So we decided to submit it if and only if I’m accepted in December. Anyone else do the same?

Did everyone who was already interviewed get a pre-interview form beforehand? Because I didn’t get one

^^ does that mean that you have already been interviewed? May I ask when you submmited your application?

@melissawilliams I submitted it because I didn’t know it was optional. What you’re doing is financially smarter. Who told you it was optional btw?

I had no idea it was optional either! Dang it. Paid $25 extra for a deferral/rejection

@Suithiopia97 Were you responding to me? If so, I haven’t been interviewed yet. However, I sent in my app on 10/31 and got an email about scheduling my interview today. I think how long it takes to be interviewed depends on your local Harvard club and how busy it is, Harvard seen to be very quick with filing the apps.

@Karabekian‌ Gibby gave me all the info, with links from Harvard’s website. You can see it all on my last thread. I’m still gonna call Monday to make sure.

Their website says “Late applications will be processed in the order they are received.” You don’t get the final award till April anyway. So if I send it in in December I’ll be fine. And the award amount isn’t affected, as far as I know.

I got my portal login information a day after I submitted.

@pmmywest‌ Yeah I was I apologize, I’m a little bit new to CC. Ok thanks and good luck in your interview, I hope to get my email soon!

How does the interview process go?

@Karabekian She just asked me how I liked my school and the conversation began.
@Pmmywest I dressed comfortably (in my opinion - this is my usual attire): black cords and an oxford-style shirt. My interviewer told me in her email that she was fine with jeans and a nice shirt.

Got my application confirmation yesterday. I applied to H’s RD last year and got rejected. Decided to take a Gap Year and reapplied to H’s SCEA, knowing the admit rate is extremely low.

Humm… for the supplement I wrote a sonnet. Hope AO would like it.

Didn’t expect to be admitted but still hope for the best.
Best wishes to everyone!

@jordanium‌ well it’s different for each applicant!
You get contacted by an interviewer and then schedule an interview!
As for me, mine was in his office and we started a nice and friendly conversation!
It’s really nothing to be scared of. They will ask about your school and extracurriculars and generally your life and interests!

Could somebody help me with what to expect for interviews? Are you guaranteed an interview? How long after submitting should you hear about an interview? From whom will I hear about an interview, if granted one?

To anyone who submitted a supplemental recommendation, does it show up as received in the portal? I checked, and I don’t have anything NOT received; there isn’t even an option for supplemental rec.

@AppAnxiety‌ well it all depends on where you live!
If you live in the U.S then you will be contacted by an interviewer! But if you are an international student than depending on which country you are in, your process will be different!
For example some countries are applicant initiated, that means the applicant has to contact the admissions office for an interview!
But as for America, you will be contacted, either by email or phone!
And no you aren’t guaranteed an interview, but Harvard tries it’s best to get you an interview!
