Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

So when do the AO’s actually start talking about us?

@HobbitTon Right…now-- no no no— right… now!
@melissawilliams, same here.

@HobbitTon‌ They’re probably just trying to print stuff off and get files organized right now… it’ll take some time. Then there’s a process where once your file is complete, they pass it around to 3 different readers and if you get enough nods, your application is taken to the committee (which happens around December).

@Melissawilliams‌ I emailed them about a supplemental rec too. They replied that they do have it on file, even though it’s not on the portal. So I think it’s safe to assume that if it’s submitted and downloaded on the CA, then they probably have it.

@PcollegegirlP‌ Thank you so much. I was stressing out about that!

@WooTheDay I thought that only ‘debatable’ cases are taken to the committee?
Aren’t there some applicants who are accepted automatically after 2-3 reads (top few %) and others who are rejected automatically?

@masonjar‌ Thank you so much!

@Bemusedfyz that’s what I thought too! Could someone confirm this? Does Harvard really have “auto-acceptances”? I know for a fact that only 2,000-3,000 or so compelling candidates are brought to committee and discussed with everyone.

Even though this Crimson article is eight years old, I doubt that too much has changed in terms of the admissions process at Harvard. <a href=“Stairway to Harvard | News | The Harvard Crimson”>http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2006/7/7/stairway-to-harvard-span-stylefont-style-italicthis/</a></p>

Did anyone take the on-campus interview? How is it different from the local interview? What should I expect from it?

I have a coach I invited to submit a recommendation but he hasn’t done it yet. Everything else is in though… will Harvard start looking at my file without that final supplemental rec, or is it expected that they’ll wait since I did invite him to upload onto my Common App? (I know it’s early, but I’m nervous!)

@steinway That Crimson article was extremely informative. Thanks for sharing!

Wait, was the CSS due with the app?

Yes if you want to know early the fin aid offering.

Hi guys!

I’m a US citizen living in India, and I’ve applied for SCEA to Harvard College.

I know all decisions are out by Dec 15, but do any of you know when they start sending out the offers?
Also, is anyone else planning to major in Economics?

After checking out the threads (about the decisions ) of last year and the previous year, I reached the conclusion that results come out on the 13th!
I saw how everybody started posting their results in the 12/13

@PcollegegirlP‌: the 13th is a Saturday. They have never released decisions on a Satrurday before. It will most likely be the 11th or 12th.

Oh @frozens‌ yes u are right! Forgot it was a Saturday!
Hopefully they release it on the 11th or 12th and not the 15th!
I literally can’t wait, it’s killing me!

@AppAnxiety‌ No. I called and checked. Turning in the CSS November 1 was optional - if you want an estimate included in your acceptance package in December. This would be an estimate, and you’d have to update the CSS with actual numbers by February and turn in FAFSA by March to get the final package in April. I asked and she said it’s totally ok to wait till you’re actually accepted before submitting CSS. It doesn’t affect your award or your application decision.

I really liked the article that was posted earlier. Thanks whoever posted it!
