Official Harvard Transfer Thread

wow, you are amazing, but i don't understand how come you ended up in U of Waterloo? there are a lot of better skools in canada. well, Waterloo is great too, especialy in math and cs.

you are just scaring me..!!!!!
you are definitely in..........

nspeds.. You are right about not applying to enough schools. Honestly, I had/have mixed emotions about applying this year. As you know from some of my posts, I am just 16 years old and only completed 2 years of high school (the reason for that had much to do with my grandmother's illness and a move). I have enjoyed my college experience thus far, and I have been successful academically. I know I am ready to take that next step, but I also know that I will miss my family if I go. I am very close to my mom and dad. We do everything together. I actually enjoy going shopping with my mom and going to movies with my dad. I'm concerned about my mom being able to take care of my grandmother without me. I don't want to imply that I'm lacking the maturity because all those who know me think I'm incredibly mature for my age and like a rock. So, while I'll be disappointed if I don't make it this year, I'll probably celebrate anyway.

I've been following various securities markets since elementary school, and vwking1987's does not impress me by using terms like "futures", "CME" and "analyist".

Many parts of your story don't smell right. It's clear you are misrepresenting things to say the least.

well how do you want me to clarify?
I mean if you don't believe me then fine i have nothing to say... afterall we are in a democratic society and it's up to you whether to believe in me or not lol...

What makes you think trading is so hard? All you have to do is find a client... It's all about networking... You really don't do much lol... You don't do the analyst... your COMPANY gives you information to SELL to clients so if THAT STILL DOESN"T CONVINCE YOU I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY....

Obviously i wasn't the LEADER in analysing the different options and markets but HOW HARD IS IT? comon... trading isn't as hard as you think.. If you know a lot of people with a buck to spare, you will be successful....

Good for you:) I wish you the best of luck.

I can look over your essays for Rice if you want.

Speaking of Rice... nspeds, if you don't mind me asking, what did you write about for the "What perspective do you feel that you contribute to life at Rice?" essay?

Ohh.... haha. I wrote a really weird essay on how I hung a fruit juice carton from a ceiling.

I took some exams and passed and da-dan! i became a trader in the futures market for my clients ( Chicago Mercantile Exchange)

The description that you provide is very broad, what exactly do you do? I used to have a job an assisstant in trade accounting at a top international firm and came across almost every type of possible securities transaction, so if you explain it a little more I might be able to understand. Were you a trader or a broker?

I'm assuming that you are a male because you volunteered in Uganda at a refugee camp, is this correct?

I think he's just confused. He probably didn't intern at an investment bank but rather a small brokerage outfit for individual investors, probably one of the many in Chicago that cater almost only to the CME.

That's still unlikely for a 17-year but alot more believeable.

Lol the idea that your dad has connections (despite having declared bankruptcy) resulting in you becoming a licensed trader at an American Investment Bank as a MINOR is not realistic at all.

I think he's just a kid who's really bored

entertain him

since you all have nothing better to do XD

Lol...well I should be studying, but I'd rather watch this progress.

In other Harvard transfer news:
I called the admissions office nearly a month ago, asking if I needed to resend my SAT scores. They said that I did not need to resend them, but that I should resend my AP scores. I call today to ask a completely unrelated question, and then ask, just to double check.
Well, I guess you do need to resend your scores. Or not. Two admissions representatives told me two different things, a month apart.
Gaah!

Does anyone know how to reach the office of transfer admissions? I called and all I got was an automated message.

Applied

Sophomore transfer

2160, 1440, 33

NO SATIIs

3 5s (Calc BC, english), 2 4s on AP tests

4.0 at large ~100 ranked public college

Hook = Obession with Economics, the Econ department here has 17 profs. Harvard has ~73. There is very limited econ classes pertaining to public policy here. I want to eventually go into public service, so this is key. I'm a Conservative but want to broaden my horizons. I want to take Ec 2010d with Greg Mankiw. There is no place in Oklahoma that does unbiased economic research. National Bureau of Economic Research is 2 blocks from the Harvard Econ department.

Good recs, with one outstanding one from Economics prof

Very good and very specific essays

Deep involvement with Republican politics (Officer in State college republicans, Chairman elect of huge school CR organization, founder of high school republican club, co-founder of state teenage republicans) and grade school mentor

Have never applied anywhere but my current school.

I'm a long-shot/no shot I know, but trying never hurt anyone :D

Applied:

For Junior status Fall 2007

Current School: University of Southern California

3.92 cumulative GPA (4.0 GPA since returning to college in 2005)

32 ACT, 3.85 HS GPA

Recs good, from professors who know my "story" (see below)

EC's decent (athletics, mentoring, teaching, hospital volunteering, other heavy community involvement)

Essays: a hook? I'm a recovered heroin addict and childhood sexual abuse survivor. No really, I am not joking. Left UC Berkeley to go to rehab, started a new life in SoCal. Now 2.5 years sober and ready to study Philosophy on Mind, Brain, and Behavior track at Harvard.

Applied last minute, chances are probably ok (semi-reach?), not too concerned if I don't get in, but damn I'll be excited if I do. Their program in Philosophy looks amazing, and no one else has quite the same thing with the Mind, Brain, and Behavior track (though there are similar programs).

What do you guys think?

do you have the prerequisites done?

LOL, RacerT514,

I know one kid from my school who is also applying to Harvard's MBB track. His college stats are similar to yours, his "hook" is pretty devastating too (perhaps as comparable as the heroine thing). I don't know his high school data, but it must be decent to get into BC's Honors program (typical students of BC Honors: avg GPA 3.8+, avg SAT1 1410/1600).

It'll be interesting to see which one of you get into Harvard, if any.

I've also applied for transfer.

From Columbia, GPA 3.6

We'll see how it goes, it'll be tough for sure.

Good luck you all!

I'm applying from Columbia with a 3.77.

Does anyone know when we find out? Is there a set date and time like for the freshman applicants?
