Official Harvard University RD Class Of 2017 Thread

I didn’t get one, and from what I gather, that is not good for an international applicant such as myself.

Looshin: I feel a little hesitant providing my stats, as that would compromise my privacy, and they probably mean nothing!

But either way, here are some stats that don’t reveal much:
SAT - 2280 (So probably somewhere in the 50% percentile for Harvard’s applicants…)
CR - 740
M - 800
W - 740.

SAT II
Physics - 800
Math 2 - 800

Again, these stats are meaningless IMHO.

-I’m heavily involved in human rights efforts in my country.
-Intern in a lab and working with some great doctors on a breakthrough formulation for certain diseases. (trials and what not…)
-English is my 3rd language. (Not sure if this means much…)
-Few other stuff that probably wouldn’t mean much either.

Basically, I think what it came down to, as boring as it sounds, is being completely honest in my essays, and representing the war in my country as accurately as possible with some light/natural humor. No exaggerations. No roses-and-rainbows kind of story, and most important, defying and rejecting every suggestion made by people around me to write the essays as if I was god’s gift to humanity. Be realistic, acknowledge your contributions, without overstating them.

Hope this can be of any help!

Hey Yab123, did you get your likely via mail or email?

And what was the date on the letter, if you don’t mind me asking?

YAB, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You sound like a very accomplished young man/woman and deserve getting an LL/early admission. Sorry about the war in your country. Would you be able to share which continent or even general region you are from?

@jamesbond1: It was sent via snail mail, and it was dated on March 1st.

@JustOrdinary: Thank you very much! and sure, general region: middle-east! :)

Mabrook habibi!

Likely letter…completely out of the blue…

Did you guys get them in the mail?

Started from the bottom and now we here!

So, I also applied to Harvard. I had my interview in December in a different country since they don’t have interviewers in my home country (yes, international). Not hoping for much (at all really) but hey I gave it a shot ! Nobody from my school has been admitted to Harvard, or from my country in the past 5 to 7 years so yeah…

Thanks POmani :)

@AeryGold: Yes.

@yab Mafi mushkila.

I didn’t apply to Harvard but I want to wish every single one of you good luck for the next few weeks! I admire the enthusiasm and positive energy in this forum! I wish I have the stats and guts to apply to such a wonderful institution! :)

Well, that’s really nice of you, CuriousJDG9513. All the best to you and your college dreams :)

I really agree with you about the energy in the forum. It gives me a lot of hope knowing that these are (some of) the sorts of people applying to Harvard and, if I by some miracle got in, I wouldn’t be completely surrounded by cocky students at Harvard like my friends seem to be telling me all the time :P. You guys are awesome!

@yab, thank you! Congrats, man. That’s so so so so exciting.

Just discovered this thread. I’m not really expecting anything from Harvard because it’s a high reach for everyone, but I’m sure most of us would like to be surprised! ;)

Did have a great (>2 hours long) interview though, but not reading too much into it.

Oh and for @pomani and @yab and myself, a lot of people (4-5) go to Harvard from the middle east every year, from about 100 applicants. But of course @yab is already in, and congrats for that! Btw, are you in Dubai?

@Himan seems to be right in line with the acceptance rate, I fancy my chances more as a UK applicant though, my interviewer told me that the acceptance rate for the Britain is 8%.

Oh well, Harvard isn’t the only college eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Princeton accepts a significantly larger number from the middle east, according to my interviewer who is an alumnus of both. Two of his own interviewed candidates were accepted last year to Pton.
