I do feel bad about bugging teachers for multiple recommendations, especially since I’m not their only student. I’m just going to make it as easy on them as possible and remember this isn’t their first time. Not that that changes how I approach anything; it just makes me feel less like I’m bombarding them in a sneak attack.

My summer plans-

Do the last summer reading of my LIFE, for AP Language.

Get a head start on AP Comp Sci by learning some Java.

Apply for scholarships.

Compete in a few essay competitions (for cash :p)

Study for the ACT. (already have 2200 on SAT, now taking this for fun :)

Oh and most importantly, STAR TREK and lots of it.

joshmay- college has summer reading lol

Did you guys know that the regular
Munchkin donuts are made from the holes of the bigger donuts (like glazed), but the chocolate munchkins are individually rolled into a ball?

Fun Donut fact.

All of my schools are on commonapp except one which doesn’t have a section for teacher recs, only from your GC
almost done with that. The essay is optional but I’ll probably do it. It’s a safety school.

ugh… I can’t really find any safety schools for financial reasons… I’m in a summer funk… I should be studying latin for this really important convention in late july, but ehhh. It’s so boring by myself. I’m just going to be shown up by all the private school kids anyway.

Spending the rest of the day doing random calisthenics, tae kwon do, trying this old teeth whitening kit I have, and doing some spoken latin for practice.

I have 2 reaches, 1 high match, 1 match, and 7 safeties, and only 2 or 3 of the 11 schools I’m applying to are financial safeties.

Trying to get scholarship money. What’s everyone’s top favorite schools? I have a 5 way tie lol.

Say it ain’t so :(

I have one reach, one match. I am very confident that I will at least get into the match, and since I’m applying there EA I might not even have to apply to more than those two schools.

My top favorites are Dartmouth and Binghamton :)

Sorry but it is so hahahaha.

My favorites are LMU, Rice, Emory, UCF, and Smith.

I’d LOVE to go to LMU! Los Angeles :)

Interficio: You’re right in saying that different schools may have different teacher recommendation letter forms, but each teacher can just write one letter and copy it and send it to all your schools. The different forms are mostly just writing a few short answers on if you are the top 1%, top 5%, top 10%, etc of their students, defining the student in a couple of adjectives, etc. But for the actual rec letter, they just write one letter and send it to all your schools. So, no worries!

My top two are Yale and Duke. But Brown and Cornell are tied for second! I wish they were EA schools and not ED. This summer…I have a full-time job lifeguarding and running kids programs at a local resort. I also have to study for the SAT IIs…considering taking chem and lit and a third. Maybe math II or French, but I’ve only done two years so idk :P

Sent from my Vortex using CC App

Thanks, Apoc! slowly realized that after my initial freakout. My top schools are Harvard and dartmouth… I hope I get into at least one reach school (especially since all my schools are reaches, haha!)… Only problem is that I don’t have any work experience and little community service. Didn’t the common app only have you list the top 5 EC’s you did? Now it has room for 9! I can only think of 7! Damn I’m freaking out… I need to get into a top college because I don’t have the money to pay for any non 100% need met schools… :/

Same here -_- I NEED financial aid.

I hate being a senior. I wish I was a freshmen so I didn’t have to worry so damn much about financial aid. I hate colleges. Why do they cost so much money?

I never want to go back in time where we had no say in our lives/less privileges, respect from older people, etc.

Because compared to how much you (should) be making when you graduate, college costs nothing.

Also, college is giving you a 90% chance of being able to be independent, lucrative, and beneficial to the world. Your college experience is invaluable.

Also, because they have bills to pay. And people to pay. And equipment to buy, etc.

I’m not supporting the high costs, just saying.

Yep. I’m banking on financial aid from Stanford/Harvard and/or merit scholarships from Rice/Duke/Vandy/Emory. Lol. Well, hopefully something goes right this year and we come out well.

Interficio: The common app has 12 spaces for Extracurriculars, Jobs, Volunteer Work, etc. You don’t have to fill all of them out. In fact, I read on a website from a former Stanford admissions officer that they like to see depth instead of spread-thin breadth. So if you focus on your certain areas then I’m sure your 7 ECs are fine. It’s the same with the awards. They only want the top 5 honors/awards, but I’m sure that some people have a ton here. It’s just to show the most prominent awards/ECs that you’ve earned/done.

But I mean when you look at Europe, and see the kids starting riots over having their tuition increased to 5,000 euro, it’s kind of hard to sit back and accept the exorbitant prices we’re being charged.

But in many cases, the most expensive colleges offer a lot of financial aid, so those who have worked really hard don’t end up having to pay to such high prices, which are needed so schools can provide resources for its student body.

There’s no way I’ll be able to attend any college that doesn’t meet 100% of need or would give me a huge merit scholarship. I doubt I would get any of the super selective scholarships at top schools.

My goal is to finish my summer work before August 1st… we’ll see, haha.

Dramamine, they’re on a totally different financial situation/system than us. Just like northerners think every thing down south is cheap while southerns think the north is expensive. Our $100 might be their $50, but relative to the cost of living, it’s the same. I have a friend in NC who said he didn’t get a class ring because it was $89 and too expensive. Class rings in the north run around $200 average. $89 to me is nothing for a CR.

Anyways, I mean AFTER financial aid. Still going to bleed me dry :(

Liddy- super selective top schools usually don’t have “scholarships” just need based aid. usually
also, my goal is august first too haha.

^ i live in Texas and our class rings ranged from like $300-$900 (not sure exactly who pays $900 for a high school class ring) but anyways the thing about in the U.K. is that even though college is cheaper the cost of living is much higher and since college used to be so much cheaper most families didn’t have real savings for college whereas here we know that college is expensive so a lot of parents start saving at birth. Its like gas here people would be furious if gas was over $5 a gallon but there its regularly at least $9 a gallon.

Yay, class of 2012! :)

My top schools are USC, Loyola Marymount, Emory, and Washington University.
LMU is my match / safety school, and if I don’t get into USC, I’m definitely going to LMU hopefully with CPU! :p
