*OFFICIAL* June 2012 ACT English section discussion

So was the answer for one of them it or itself?

Ok. it was definitely itself… it was not the plant under radiation-- that was way redundant and I’m pretty sure it was unneeded. sorry.

i dont think helping with the next sentence was a choice

@Sid: it.
You protect yourself from radiation, but your hat protects you from radiation.
In the same vein, the plant would protect itself, but the sentence read that ‘its leaves protected…’ Its leaves do not protect itself. Its leave protect it.
Does that make sense? Haha I’m not so good at explaining things

The plant was it. ‘Itself’ is awkward and seems like it wants to refer to the silver hairs, but then it should have been ‘themselves.’ Answer was definitely ‘it from.’

I put using as an answer.

What’s the curve on English? I got a 36 last October, but I don’t know if I missed any.

for the plant, I put "it"because it was like “the plant’s whatever protected itself” (or whatever was underlined). I feel like itself would have only been correct if it said “the plant protects itself”

The it vs itself thing is not a matter or awkwardness or redundancy…it’s a matter of a reflexive verb or not. In this case, it was not reflexive…the plant was not protecting itself

Yes, IT was definately right, but can you put your answers to the volcano height one?

Admirable creatures or lovable pets??

lovable pets. It was supposed to be as cute and non-scary as possible. Creatures is scarier than pets.

I also put “it” after some debate.
“Itself” would imply that the plant hairs are alive and fending off bad guys to protect itself. At least that’s what crossed my mind haha.

Similar to “my strong arm protected me from the bad guy” versus “my strong arm protected itself from the bad guy”

No it was definitely NOT correct okay. itself is correct.

Volcano height is yes because it is relevant to the habitat. I’m not 100% on this one, but I think it’s right.

The one with the dragons tongue was a period, and the ? With the entryway jumble was no punctuatuon

@alargeblackman14
Well, I guess no one here is 100% sure which one is correct, but the majority sides with it.
We’ll see when the results come out c:

F***. I was so close to changing it to lovable pets but I was following the principle that “first choice is usually correct”…

I really had hoped for a 36 but it’s very unlikely that -1 will translate to that

Volcano one was okay to keep in because the paragraph was about the habitat of the plant

What was the other ‘yes’ answer choice for putting the volcano sentence in? did everyone put yes b/c context/habitat

skylimits makes perfect sense. you say “it protects itself” or “something else protects it”

how many wrong would be a 34?
