*OFFICIAL* June 2012 ACT Science Section discussion

I guess it was smart to double up chem and physics then, granted chem was a joke

Aren’t the questions not supposed to require outside knowledge?

Really though, if you don’t know how pH works, what planets are gas giants or that potential energy creates kinetic energy do you honestly deserve a 36?

PH and Potential energy yeah i would agree… (ACT says you take 3 years of science)

Not gas planets though…

tell me i’m not the only one who thought 7 was more acidic then 6 by accident?

I thought 7 was more acidic and I got an 800 and 5 on chem Sat and AP respectively, it was bs.

The PH one was 6 right? Because 6 is more acidic than 7. Only reason I knew this was because I remember seeing a chart back in 9th grade of PH and milk was a the top near the high numbers, so I figured milk was definitely not acidic.

6 is more acidic than 7. There is no question about that. 7 is neutral. 1 is acidic and 10 is basic.

Actually, milk is acidic. The only basic foods we eat regularly are eggs. Otherwise, I think April’s curve will be appropriate. I’m lucky I’ve done some outside reading on the planets to know about the gaseous planets.

this was definitely a harder science section than normal so curve should be a bit more lenient.

We can only hope. The more lenient curve the better.

Are you guys kidding me lol? The april one was way harder… Either that or i was just really bad back then and i also kind of ran out of time. But this was preeeeeeeeety easy I mean the only weird ones were the one with Seq X & Y, a few of them near the end of the test with finding “I” or whatever, and a couple of the fighting scientists but not a bad test at all really I thought it was great and so easy.

I don’t feel that this science section was hard. The last time I took the ACT( March 20) I was told not I read the passages and look at the graphs. That got me a 21 an obviously did not work. This time someone told me you’re SUPPOSED to read the passages and with that advice it was sooo easy! I thought the passages weren’t difficult and simple to comprehend.

The find cmp (cpm idk) when “I sub 0” was simple. Just look at the graphs where “I” is 0 and you see the cmp is 8000

Ohh I see. I think I might have got it right anyway because I think my guess was 8000 lol

Hopefully I did well in this section. I feel that I did. Math on the other hand…I just wasn’t thinking lol

Same here with math lol

For anyone with doubts, x subscript half was four because at four cm the material blocked half of the y rays. I subscript zero was 8k because that was the starting amount.

Does anyone remember the passages in order?

Did anyone get the table with 0 0 of both concentrations?

I ran out of time and had to put down random guesses for 36 and 37…anyone remember what letter choices they put? I saw someone earlier in the thread say they got a few Bs for the last passage–did anyone else get that?
