My first time taking the ACT:

Composite: 30 (I’m really pleased by this because I did terrible on my SATs… I only had a 1100 (CR & M))
English: 26 ( terrible… )
Math: 32
Reading: 31
Science: 31

Oh well, I’m content!

34 composite, I’m pretty happy. Hopefully I can get it to a 35 or 36 with actually having time to study over the summer. :)

Has anyone used McGraw Hill ACT prep book? How many prep books do I have to read to acheive score above 30+?

^ I bought some of the McGraw Hill’s ACT book and they suck. I mean they suck. It was too easy and I thought I was on a roll until I got the Real ACT Guide.

Account was hacked. Sorry I’m no ■■■■■.

Got a 29

E: 30
M: 27
R: 32
S: 27
Writing Score: 8

Good enough for the colleges I’m looking at, so I’m not retaking.

34 Composite
35 English/Writing(12)
36 Math
33 Reading
33 Science

Overall, I’m kind of upset with my scores, especially english and science. It’s even harder to swallow because I got a 34.25 and one more point on either would have given me a 35 composite. Well I’ll definitely take it again soon and hope for that 36, or at least a 35.

I am going to take the ACT soon, which book do you recommend? Barrons ACT 36, or the ACT red book?

@Meow I havent used both, but I did use the Red Book and a got a 36. That being said, I only used it for practice tests

Meow you will need both

Thank you evanh14 and ndl1290 :)

Forgot to check until today…
reading - 36
math - 35 lol…of course
sci - 36
writing - 36
essay - 10. Meh…oh well.

Juuuuuust got my scores back, and I have to say I’m very very pleased, just a little backstory: I first took the ACT in October and scored a 24, after that I took all of the following ACT tests (excluding December) and raised my score to a 28, then a 30, and finally the score for June I received yesterday, a 33

My breakdown was like this:
C: 33
E: 33<-- About average, I usually score a 31-35 on practice tests (up from a 25 in october)
M: 30 <–I’m awful at math, so this was awesome for me. I usually get about a 28-30 on practice math tests (up from a 23 in October)
R: 36 ← higher than expected, usually score a 30-33 on practice tests (up from a 24 in October)
S: 32 ← easily most surprising, I have never really gotten anything over a 29 in practice tests for science (up from a 23 in October)
Writing: 10 (received an 8 every other test)
C E/W: 32

Overall SUPER happy, and I took around 15-20 practice tests

anyone know if barrons act 36 is worth getting? and does it have good reading section info?

Did anyone buy the June 2012 ACT test that they took and is willing to share? I have lots of older ACT tests to trade in return.

Bump. Cmon guys

Barrons ACT 36 is great for English and Math. It gets sort of vague for reading and science though, as it simply tells you the pace to go at and simple strategies you probably already know. Again, for English and Math it’s fantastic.

Schubes5, how many pages did you write for that 10? Apparently on another thread, if you write a lot like 4+ pgs, you will get above 10

I wrote 2 pages and got a 9.

Is there any technique with wiritng ACT essay? How many body paragraphs should I include? I usually follow this procedure: Introduction - Pro Body Parag - Pro Body Para 2 - Body Parag on addressing opposition - Conclusion.

Do I really have to address possible opposition to my idea in a separate body paragraph or I can kind of include them in my arguments?
