Official June 2012 ACT thread!

I legit love ACT Math. It’s like normal math, not that weird SAT pre-algebra I can’t even remember. :)

I hope I can do as well as I did on the state-mandated one.

^^^

Probably why every1 does so bad on the SAT math. Who remembers pre-algebra? I never took the class. The ACT math is easy primarily because we are doing the math as of now. I’m in Pre-Cal right now.

I was seriously considering going out and buying a Monster tonight to drink tomorrow morning, but I didn’t want to because I don’t drink that stuff very much, so I don’t know if it would help me focus or just make me all jittery.

Haha adderal actually makes you do worse on these type of tests cause it makes you beleive that you did perfect on every question and will make in mentally challenging to correct a question lol. I have a friend who did that and did not do too hot.

Limitless pill, yes haha. Anyone with writing, I got a 12 by just sticking to four paragraph essays. Get a really good hook in your intro, use tons of transitions, get really specific examples, and I suggest ending it with something that the readers can think about later, food for thought type of thing. Watch your commas, use some rhetoric, and you’ll all be good. I really need to get my science score up, it’s weighing me down.

Yup, I just had my IB Math SL/pre-calc final. It definitely makes the Math section really easy. And there’s matrices; I love them.

Lol, really? I don’t know anyone who has taken it before the ACT, but I know a good amount of people that take some to study for finals all night in college. They’ve all basically said the stuff makes you extremely focused, one of them said she felt like the guy from limitless, which is why I brought it up. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to rely on my normal, groggy morning self to do well on this.

I like that filling out the information at the beginning takes a little while, as it helps me wake up more.

I was gonna BS the writing like I BS the essay on the SAT. Testmasters style LOL!

hmm… After scoring 2200+ on SAT, I just decided to take the ACT for fun… (not for fun) and I’ve never taken it before, and the test is tomorrow  any tips? All I know is that there are 4 sections… hmm… I took 1 practice run, but other than that o.o

so i’ve gotten a composite score of 34 on the two official prep tests i’ve taken, so hopefully i get something close to that on the actual test. I’m debating whether to take one more practice test tonight or just going to sleep. What do you guys think? And hopefully the test is easy for me and hard for 99.9% of the US, then I could get a high score due to the curve XD

I’m in the midst of a practice test, and once I finish/grade it I’m going to bed. No use being zonked tomorrow.

if i take the practice test i’ll be up til 2am…one issue i have is that i am displaying symptoms of a cold, and would hate to take the test sniffling and sick. what is the recommended sleep time? 6hrs, 7hrs? do you think i should wake up a couple hours before the test, or half an hour?

That really depends on you. I’d sleep a little longer than you normally do on weekdays, so you’re not tired but not groggy.

i think im going to shower in the morning too, hopefully it wakes me up sufficiently

Can anyone tell me what a counter argument is (I know dumb question but I’m serious). Do we need an entire paragraph of it for our essay?

Isn’t it just the opposite of whatever side you’re arguing? For example, you could be arguing about how the building of more highways is good because it promotes travel and trade, etc. Then you could say as a counter argument that, like, critics argue an increased number of highways will raise CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Despite this, the building is good.

Really poor example, but hopefully you understood me. :)

For the counter argument you just present the opposing side of your argument and refute it to ultimately aid your point. You don’t need to dedicate an entire paragraph to it; you can just mention the counter argument for a few sentences in one of your body paragraphs.

Alright that makes sense. Thanks guys!
