yea I’m going

Got the Excellence (Full in-state tuition) scholarship!!

does anyone know if we can combine the trustees or any other scholarship besides national buckeye with prominence?

Damn… I guessing people who didn’t get anything will know later.

Status on the account hasn’t changed (Submitted for review). I mean I’ll still be going to OSU but it would have been nice to get some money to study in Columbus.

If I don’t get anything congratulations for everyone to getting the scholarship, you probably deserved it. I honestly guess my essay was either really crappy or my deferral had something to do with it. :/

Congratulations to all of you who got the scholarship and if I don’t get anything this is probably my last post in this thread. Hope I run into you all somehow at ohio state.

got in!!!

I am pleased to announce you have been selected by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to receive the Morrill Scholars Program Excellence Scholarship. Congratulations!

The Excellence Scholarship is the value of in-state tuition. This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of 12 quarters (four years) of undergraduate study. Your scholarship benefits will end if you complete your undergraduate degree in fewer than 12 quarters (or the equivalent) of undergraduate study.

To accept the Excellence Scholarship, you are required to pay the University’s acceptance fee by May 1, 2011. If you decide not to attend Ohio State, please reply to morrillscholars@osu.edu so we can consider another student.

@ avenlea
i’m not sure, i received both the Excellence Scholarship and the National Buckeye Scholarship so I don’t know if I can take both but I sure hope so!

I got Excellence as well, and I was not expecting it because I am an ORM.

I’m going too

If I can stack scholarships, I probably will go as well.

Does anyone know if we can combine it w the provost?

I’m pretty sure you can combine it with the provost. I remember I received an OSU scholarship brochure that said you could.

@powerbond: Yay for ORMs :)

So, maybe a dumb question, but if we got the Excellence scholarship, are we out of the running for the Distinction one?

@AverageWhiteGirl: Yep. The ODI sent emails in mid-February (or earlier) to potential candidates for the Distinction. These emails also notified that the candidates had to chose their interview dates for the Distinction.

By the way, did anyone receive any news of their awards from their Buckeye Link/account?

Does anybody know what GPA is required in order to renew the scholarship year to year?

My ds is a current freshman at OSU and won a Morrill scholarship last year (prominence) so here is what info I have.

If you look on the OSU website under the Morrill scholarship it will list what the renewal gpas are for each level. For promience it is 2.7 and I believe that must be reached by the end of the sophmore year.

In terms of stacking you can stack them but again it depends on the type of scholarships. I will give my DS’s situation as an example. He has the prominence; the buckeye and the “distinguished” scholarship. The last scholarship was given for his score on the PSAT since he is a national hispanic scholar under the national hispanic recognition program. I may have the wrong “label” that is what the scholarship was for. All three of these scholarships stacked up to be a full-merit ride including room and board and fees. As OSU told us you can stack them as long as the total does not exceed the cost of attendance.

Now just so you are all aware we kept on getting different answers to the question of stacking from OSU. Everyone told us the prominence and buckeye could be stacked but the last one people really didn’t know the answer to. When my DS was able to log on to his buckeylink account and see the three awards as “pending” in his financial section did we then learn they all were stacked. Needless to say we were extremely happy.

If you are unsure about your award just keep asking admissions. I found the language used by OSU to describe if a particular scholarship could be stacked was vague and confusing. For any info related to scholarships at OSU such as renewal info etc; the osu website is pretty detailed so that is a good place to look for info. Do not automatically assume a scholarship can be stacked or not stacked. It really depends on the particular type of scholarship. If you need something in writing about your particular scholarships then ask OSU for it.

Also when each of you attend orientation there will be a special meeting for Morrill Scholars with the scholarship services department of OMA. At this meeting they will have you sign your “contract” for your scholarship and explain the requirements of your particular scholarship. They will also explain all the services available to you for support from their office.

Good luck to everyone and I hope this info helps you all.

Just as a follow-up. I think the best place for your to ask about stacking of scholarships would be through the office of scholarship services for the office of minority affairs. This office was given a new title by OSU and is now the “office of diversity and inclusion.” So when you see references to OMA or ODI it means the same office. Renewal info is found at the link below.

[OSU Office of Diversity and Inclusion | FAQ](http://oma.osu.edu/current-students/minority-scholarship-services/faq.php)

The people who work in this office are very helpful.

Here is the specific info about renewal.
What are the requirements to keep my scholarship?
We encourage all students to strive for academic excellence. Outlined below are the minimum GPA requirements to renew your Office of Diversity and Inclusion award, FAFSA requirements, and maximum number of quarters to receive these awards:

AWARD CUMULATIVE GPA # OF QUARTERS RECEIVED FAFSA REQUIRED
FFP 2.5 15 quarters Yes
MSP
Distinction 3.0 12 quarters No
**Prestigious 2.7 12 quarters No
Excellence 2.5 12 quarters No
YSP 2.5 15 quarters Yes
I Know I Can 2.0 15 quarters Yes
C.A.M.P. 2.5 until 45 credits completed Yes

**please note that this is only required for those students enrolled 2010-11 school year and prior

@ AverageWhiteGirl & @ Goldentide

I don’t think that’s necessarily true because let’s say someone who got the Distinction turns down the offer, then they have to give it to someone else. Though, the people that were awarded the Prominence would most likely be next in line for it

I got the Distinction scholarship!!!

Congratulations TomT17! I also got the Distinction!!
