**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

Churroke: What university do you want to transfer to? I can help you out, just need to know your target school.

AAW00, my target school is USC. Any tips

@AAW000 Thanks for replying
Major: Bio-Engineering
School Transfer to: UCLA

The helpless counselor told me to list my own “prereq” and “GE require SPECIFIC FOR UCLA” but I don’t know what it is :frowning: and they told me that it’s DIFFERENT THAN “IGETC”

FALL schedule:

Introduction to Western philosophy
Rock Music History and Appreciation
English 67 <– I know it…it would of been better if it’s 68
Introduction to Criminology
Preparing for College Reading <– I have open classes for BUT IT’S “COLLEGE ALGEBRA” it’s the OTHER side of the bracket

can you help me with what classes I need for the next two years…REALLY APPRECIATED! thank you so much :)

yeah… noone knows anything about transferring to out of state colleges… Hey steve, are you sure Linda Moreno knows anything about transferring to USC? She’s a sweet old lady, but I have some doubts she has the knowledge I need.

current classes: 2301 Principles of Accounting I- Financial
2301 Principles of Macroeconomics
1301 Composition 1 Honors
1324 Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences I
1304 Introduction to World Religions
0107 College Success

16 credits thus far

@Holkey if “1324 Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences I” is similar to Math 140 a.k.a calculus for business and social sciences, you should know that it does not transfer to most schools.
I originally was going to do 140, but went to 180 after finding out that it wasn’t really acceptable.

@churokee - here is how assist lays it out

on the left side is the UCLA courses that satisfy your major’s courses
on the right side is the Mt SAC courses that are equivalent to UCLA’s courses

so for example, it says you need

LIFESCI 2 Cells, Tissues, and(5)|BIOL 1 General Biology (4)
Organs
…|
…| OR
…ANAT 36 Human Physiology (5)
…| OR
…|BIOL 2 & Plant and Animal (4)
…| Biology
…|BIOL 4 Biology for Majors (4)
…| OR
…|BIOL 2 & Plant and Animal (4)
…| Biology
…|BIOL 4H Biology for Majors - (4)
…| Honors

so in order to satisfy the requirement of “life sci2” you need to take one of the listed courses on the right side. so you have the option of taking…BIO 1 or ANAT 36 or BIO 2 WITH BIO 4/4H.

if you continue going down the list, some courses only have 1 equivalent. like LIFESCI3. you MUST take bio 8 at mtsac.

as for planning out your 2 years…i suggest you talk to linda diaz about that. she is really good at doing that. finish off the fall/winter and join honors. keep knocking down GE’s that satisfy both major pre-reqs and IGETC.

ur current classes look fine
so after fall you will have 9 transferable units
and during the winter you can take ENG 68 and another course if you choose too.
after winter, you can apply for honors as long as you have a 3.2 GPA. then you can talk to linda! :D

@holkey - i think you got the name linda mixed up with another haha. you want to speak to linda DIAZ, not linda moreno. never heard of her… :(

as for USC, click here
USC:Transfer Planning Guide;

any form of the book is fine, as long as it has the material required by the prof. and yes most profs are understanding that books are expensive and that most students are renting now, so the first week is usually a freebie :)

but always let the prof knwo you are renting and that you will make up for any reading lost in the days the book is needed (if needed at all). IE using the library, a classmate, etc.

if you are trying to transfer to marhsall i know a few mtsac honors students who just recently did it and will be starting with me this monday haha. if you need their advice lmk ill shoot u towards them
and jet is right, math 140 is not really universally accepted as math 180 is.
but math 140 is transferable to USC (as well as 180). i suggest you do 180 if possible.
if not its okay too.

ok so today i went to the math and science building to take transcript and they werent there :frowning: so i left it in their mailbox. only thing idk if it was correct office. they told me room 2505 which i did leave it there but it said natural science division room and they asked for it to add a math class. hould i call and ask if it was correct place?

and i still only have 2 classes-7 units in total but their in waitlist. and dont know what other classes to take.
just tryin to get over required classes…

@Dainese thanks for the help!
and on the list…do I need to reach to “linear algebra” I can transferring to LA.
Also…do you recommend taking “energy Science” since General chemistry isn’t available? Thanks for the help

does anyone know the phone number for the natural science division room 2505 in building 61?
nmv i got transfered by operator. :)

Alright Churroke, I’m gunna give you a nice quality post about the classes you will need to take while at Mt. Sac. Do keep in mind though that I am not a counselor, but I do have a lot of experience in IGETC and pre-req’s for UCLA.

Bioengineering involves a BUNCH of pre-reqs. I’ll be honest and realistic, that you will probably not be able to transfer in 2 years. Three or four years sounds right, depending on where you placed on your placement tests and how good your registration date is. But let’s try it just to see what classes you would need to take:

Biol 1 OR Anat 36

Biol 8

Chem 50 and Chem 51

Chem 80 and Chem 81

Math 180 and Math 181 and Math 280 and Math 285

PHYS 4A and PHYS 4B and PHYS 4C

English 1A and English 1C

CISP 31

That’s 16 classes right there. And I’m not counting the prerequisites classes that you will need to take to simply get to these advanced classes. (For example, before you take English 1A, you need to take Eng 67 and Eng 68.)

Remember that PREREQS ALWAYS take priority over IGETC. Its much better to finish major pre-reqs then IGETC at the time you apply.

Good thing is, some of these pre-reqs cover some IGETC areas. Areas covered by these classes are: Area 1, Area 2, and Area 5.

You will need 3 additional Area 3 (Arts and Humanities) classes.

You will also need 3 additional classes from Area 4(social and behavioral science).

Here is the schedule you said you have for this semester:
Introduction to Western philosophy
Rock Music History and Appreciation
English 67 <– I know it…it would of been better if it’s 68
Introduction to Criminology

As you can see, none of the classes I mentioned above you are registered in. Can’t blame you, as those classes are extremely hard to get. But I am just warning you that you have to be patient.

Keep in mind that all this is for UCLA ONLY. UCLA is very strict about pre-reqs, let alone GPA. If you wanted to transfer to a CSU or lower tier UC, it would be much easier. I would keep your options open.

Im thinking about majoring bioengineering or biochemistry and Im currently registered for

Math 180
Eng 1A
Bio 1

Any recommendations for the 4th class? Im looking to transfer in 2 yrs…

@ mamba

Your in a little better shape.

Ideally, it would be nice if your fourth class could be another Major pre-requisite, such as Chem 50, PHYS 4A, CISP 31, or BIO 8.

If you aren’t able to any of those, just choose any Art/Humanities or Social Science course. Those would cover Area 3 and Area 4 respectively on IGETC.

Some easy courses I have taken that cover Area 3 & 4:
Sociology, Poli Sci, Music Appreciation, Any philosophy class, Art History.

@ dainese do you know if 1324 Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences I is transferrable to USC? I can’t find the class listed in the articulation agreement since the agreement between between SAC and USC is very limited and unofficial. And also, it’d be great if you can shoot me contacts who go to USC and have gone to SAC. Thanks for the help.

Yeah… but I dont qualify for Chem 50 or Bio 8. Dont want to touch physics yet and CISP seems a little difficult.

Looking at the major req and all that math… i dont know if I can survive… :(

Yea Im trying to add a art/humanities or social science course… sociology I wanna save for honors. Might do music appreciation but I took hist of jazz for 2 weeks during summer and hated it. lol I dont listen to old classic music haha

is today the very last day to add classes? if we dont get all the classes we need is it last day?

^ No not last day.

@holkey - Error;
there is a link with ALL the transferrable classes…i couldnt find the one you listed though…
you may hafta ask linda about that one.
as for USC peeps, ill pm you a contact

ok so today we pay for all our registered classes by 8 pm and after today we will still be able to add classes and register for others?

^^^^^^^ Yep.
