**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

yup churroke is right. dont give up just yet haha. but honestly, honors classes are the hardest to get, esp since honors kids want to transfer asap.

^ I think the whole two year thing is just ridiculous. Guys just take your time with it. I’d rather transfer out in 3 years with better grades than just rushing everything in 2. What harm does an EXTRA semester do? Most important is the grades… just focus and study hard everyone!

I think the whole two year thing is ridiculous too. Do it in one and be a boss ;]

@ jetlogic: Lol.

lol jet ._. hahahaha that made my day haha

Hey guys, I’m a Psychology major at Mt. SAC. This is my first term in college and my goal is to transfer to UCLA or UCI. I’m currently taking 16 units and have mid to high A’s in each of my five classes. I’ve got a question, though. I understand qualifying for TAP would greatly improve my chances at getting into UCLA, but I’ve come to realize that fulfilling the requirements in time so that I can start at UCLA by Fall of 2012 would be very challenging considering the honors classes would greatly add to an already heavy workload that I’ve planned out for each semester. Do you think not taking any honors classes would diminish my chances at getting into UCLA regardless of how good my GPA is? I’m in the Psychology Club and I’m volunteering at a rehab center in case you were wondering how my EC’s were.

If you can keep a great GPA and a strong workload, then not doing honors won’t hurt your chances. People get in all the time without doing any programs like TAP; TAP/TAG just increase your chances. It’s more of an opportunity cost than an actual cost.

&Got both of my winter classes! If any of you get Soc1H/Chinese 1 I’ll see you in January

Is there a post where I can talk discuss about which professors I should take? :\ Sorry! This is my first forum post ever. I’m a newbie… xD

@ahhbeee - this is pretty much the closest thing you will get to ratemyprof, so feel free to ask about any profs. but lets not turn this into a bashing of a prof. if you have something negative to say about a prof, PM it. LOL :D

@ahhbee - as Dainese said, you can definitely ask about professors here. Just a side note though, try to also add your current professors/ratings to RMP so we can have that established again.
A good first step in getting advice here is to lay out your general education plans/goals and the units you already have completed, and you’ll get plenty of helpful advice (mostly from Dainese)

Damnnn classes are filling quick…

@blackmamba - hell yea they are…even at USC haha. class sizes for some class are only 10 seats. T-T…but i got all my classes :thumbsup@USC:

my friend at cal is on waitlist for all her classes :frowning:
i hope she gets her stuff…

@lachesis4687 - welcome! im a psych major too
dang i wish i got to volunteer at a rehab center…thats awesome. thats already a huge step you have on almost every competitor haha.

as jet said, you will be fine without honors; however it would only help your chances. if you can somehow squeeze honors classes in (even if you dont finish) its worth it. you’ll make some good friends. i know i did

*holla at my homies if they happen to read this!

Besides making friends in honors lol, if you dont finish 6 honors classes… does it still look good on the app? haha Since you cant get TAP certified if you dont finish 6…

of course it helps it finish all 6…but if you dont i honestly dont think it really does anything for your app. it might…however, i think it could hurt your app as well. they might be curious as to why you didnt finish honors. my friend at cal didnt finish honors…she only completed 3/6. so i could be wrong.

either way, honors classes are much better are preparing you for the real deal.

btw…1000th post. yay <<and a senior member :D

I think it’s a logical assumption that honor classes always appear more academically rigorous than their non-honor counterparts. Assuming this and a specific time frame in which it would not be reasonable to complete 6 honors courses, having those courses could only be beneficial.

man! a lot of classes filled up really quickly. Even one of the chem class have half the ppl already! it’s the first day too!

Looks like lachesis4687 is one of my competition with getting in UCLA or UCI xD

UCLA is on my list too, as a backup though :P

lol jet just came in and stomped on UCLA. goin for cal im assuming?

i dont understand why 3 UC’s share a bear as a mascot.
cal, ucla, and ucr

OR… he might be want to be a “Highlander”…ghetto bear ftw!
