**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

Thanks to you Dainese for making this thread and keeping it alive haha

When do we have to take student ID picture? Is it needed for summer?

it helps to have one. with one you can access student services IE tutoring, student discounts, etc

i suggest you take one ASAP because once summer/fall starts, the line will be super long.
take it at the bursars office. its free.

^ Cool. Damn should have taken it when I went for placement test and orientation. Now I got to go there and pay another $2 for parking lol smh

they have visitor parking lol. right above the bursars office too. 30 min for freeeee

^ Ah ****, didnt know that haha Thanks.

Hi Dainese. I am new here in the states, just been here for a month so i don’t know about the system here. I’m looking into transferring to UCLA or Columbia from Mt. Sac. What advice can you give me? I’m planning to take Architecture. I actually took 2 semesters of it in a university before i flew here. Thank you very much in advance.

lol thats a really vague question.

ok since you wanna check out UCLA, go to [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) and fill out everything and once you have that, that will tell you all your major pre-reqs.

in order to go to UCLA you must finish IGETC and (depending on major) major -preqreqs. IGETC can be found below

http://www.mtsac.edu/catalog/2009/section09.pdf</a> theres IGETC on page 8.

i would suggest applying to mtsac, if you havnt already. take your placement tests
then get your registration date, take summer class if at all possible, and continue your education from there. Join the honors program, be an active student (IE clubs/programs/student gov), show that you have matured as both a person and student and i think UCLA and columbia can be within your reach.

UCLA is much more attainable than Columbia (i think). Both are GREAT schools. my psych prof got her PHD from columbia, what is your major btw? im guessing architecture?

once you are in the honors program, get an appointment with LINDA DIAZ, ASAP. when i say ASAP i cannot stress that enough. she is usually ALWAYS booked for weeks. so do so immediately once you are in honors. she will help you MUCH more than i can. she can def help with with columbia too. im not too familiar with privates aside from USC.

do you know if its too late to sign up for mt.sac summer classes?

no i dont think its too late, do so quickly, but your registration date is probably going to be really late

Dainese:
You wouldn’t know anything about this connect four thing…do you?

AAWW000 does. i think you basically just have to be in the walnut school district.

nikki:

You just have to be coming out of high school in the Walnut School District. With connect 4, In mid-July you will do orientation, and register for your classes before anyone else.

Hi, by the way things are looking, i might fail math 110, but plan on retaking it. I have a couple questions:

1) Would it matter if I fail with a D or F?
2) Would the new grade replace or average with the old grade?
3) How significantly is this looked upon when transferring to a Cal State/U.C?

thanks in advance,

Joe

no

replace

the UC/cal state, will know that you retook the course. its not looked down upon greatly, but think of it as a small stain. not extremely bad but noticeable. but it shouldn’t hurt your chances TOO much. i think theyre the same as a W on your record.

as bad as this might sound…if you are gonna fail it, just fail it and retake it. dont get a C on ur record. the C might look worse. atleast you can reason with UCs/calstates why you failed the first time.

dang bad newws people. i was hoping you guys could get friends to hold classes for you but waitlists have been reinstated.

there is little to no use in holding classes because of waitlists. wait lists start june 2nd. so it would only be useful if your registration date was before june 2nd.

so lets say your registration date is the 7th. you want to take BIO.
BIO is full, but i have a spot held for you. so after june 2nd, the waitlists starts and people literally add their name on a “wait list.” like a line. so no matter what happens, if ANYONE drops, the first person on that list gets the spot. so regardless of me holding it for you…the first person gets it, then the 2nd, and so on so forth…

Cool thread Dainese. I hope you don’t mind me adding this, but I thought it might be useful for some to know.

Mt. Sac is implementing a stronger pay by or drop policy that starts this fall. Any class registered for the fall semester before August 13th 8pm must be paid for by that time. Any class registered after that must be paid for by August 20th at 8pm. If you do not pay by the appropriate time you will summarily dropped and your spot given away. They haven’t released the times you must pay by for adding after that, but I’m sure they will. I’m not sure how many know about this yet, it’s a pretty new announcement. So pay your fees guys! No one wants to be dropped!

i dont mind at all, this is new info to me as well.

good find :)

yea seriously, pay your fees ASAP.

Thats GREAT news to me  haha since I dont know anyone at SAC to hold classes for me anyway. Now people cant cheat and have people hold classes for them.

haha yea good news for you indeed. :D
