**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

im not sure how AP credits work, AAW000 does. wait for a reply from AA

but…if you cannot take eng 68 over the summer thats fine too. during the fall take eng 68 and 3 other transferable courses. then during the winter you can start honors.

what your friend said is true and false. prob a miscommunication. you cannot join honors until you are eligible for eng 1A and have met the other requirements. since you placed into 68 you cannot join honors YET. but after fall if you take 68 and accumulate 9 transferable units, you are good to go :)

I’ve found their English placement system to be quite odd. I pass AP Language my junior year with a 5 and an A in the class. This year I’m taking AP Literature, I have an A in the class, and I breezed through the test. The writing prompt for the assessment was simple, and in turn I wrote a well developed essay using extensive vocabulary and varying sentence structure. I was placed into English 68. Honestly, I was appalled. I’m kind of the English guru at my high school. I then asked them if I would get placed because of my AP score and they said they didn’t accept AP scores. I’m baffled.

^ Damn. Seriously, the english test is messed up. The profs grading them dont know how to grade…

And when i went to orientation last week, the lady was like most people get placed into eng 68 and RARELY does anyone get placed into 1A and she stressed the word rarely too.

I know some pretty dumb people that took english test at PCC and got 1A easily. Its 40 multiple choice reading comprehension test and that is way more fair since the answers are set…

If I applied for financial aid during Feb, do I have to apply again for SAC? I put SAC under my schools when I applied in Feb. I applied in Feb. for Cal States and UCs… all rejected me. =(

@jetlogic - that blows. my gf was in IB and placed into 68 as well. and i repeated english 3 in highschool twice and also placed in 68. seems to be a sketch system. either the grader is in a good mood or bad i guess.

@blackmamba- im not sure about the fin aid part, but id assume since you did list it under schools it should be fine, but check with the fin aid department to be sure

@Jetlogic:

Don’t fret it. It’s not you, it’s the system. It’s so absurd how almost no one gets into 1A. HOWEVER, I they did accept my AP scores… I don’t know who told you that they don’t, but I’m pretty sure they misinformed you. You just go to Admission and Records with proof of your scores, and they will enter it into the database.

I’ve sent in my official transcripts which include AP, and then once I receive the scores for this season I’ll bring them by.
I’m going to go talk to the honcho in the assessment center and convince him to up my placement into Eng 1A, although with a 5 in AP Literature I believe I’ll be exempt from both halves of Berkeley’s R&C requirement, so I may not even need to take an English at Mt Sac.

Or you can just go to Admissions and Records right next to the assesment center. They can do it for you. Unless you’ve already tried this and they said no…

Hello again!

Due to the dreadful senioritis disease, I have all but forgotten that Mt. Sac registration for Summer actually started prior to the 17th. For some reason, someone misled me to believe orientation began on 5/17… -_-" Well, from the prior posts I can deduce that placement results are out and I should take courses based on these results. However, I am still rather confused as to what I should take over the summer! Please recommend me which course I should take over summer - I will be doing honors once I get my 9 units in! Here’s my results:

15

ENGL1A - Freshman Composition
MDT3

33
MATH100 - Survey of College Math
MATH110 - Elementary Statistic
MATH120 - Finite Mathematics
MATH130 - College Algebra
MATH150 - Trigonometry
MATH160 - Precalculus Mathematics

Assistance would be quite helpful! xD

Also! When I click Registration Status it pops up June 14,2010 - Aug 10,2010 (2pm-11:50pm, respectively) ARGH… does this mean that once I get orientation done, I can go online to register??? FFF this process is confusing! D:

And finally, I read about the Connect 4 thingy and I am eligible (assuming that you only need to be from Walnut district). Do I simply call them up…?

Please respond asap as I am super-confused and scared that I will not make orientation! D:

Edit: Oh, and I’m so confused as to why people were placed into Eng 68… I know my strong point is English for some peculiar reason (asian stereotype of godly math doesn’t apply to me) hence, how I got a 2080 SAT ^^ Oh yes, and if I do manage to have passed my English Literature AP test, will I be exempt from taking English course in SAC? How will this contribute to my 60 units?

Oh yes, when I click Financial Aid, I am green check marked for FAFSA but red crossed for “Copy of Valid Picture Identification” Do I simply mail in a copy of my student ID? o_O Please bare with me! :3

Well I just got back from talking with records and they told me that passing an English AP test will allow you to enter Eng 1A, but you need to get the actual score report from college board. The one on my HS transcript isn’t official enough.

I honestly still don’t understand the Eng 68 thing. I got a perfect on my SAT II for Literature and a 2380 cumulative SAT I in my last sitting.
Just so you know, guy above me, you’ll need to get a counselor to sign off on 9 units, as the summer maximum is 7. I’m only allowed to get 9 this summer because of my strong testing.

@Crux - lol no wrries my friend. lets do this one step at a time.

first off, id take eng 1A Honors (if you are eligible) in the summer with olds. i had her in the summer as well. one of THE best profs at mtsac ive had. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT…she is difficult and will tease you a lot because she loves you haha. aside from the teasing, i learned so much from her that taking 1C was cake.

if you cant get eng 1AH (which i think you can) then move on.

because usually people drop out of summer classes, try to get any class that falls under IGETC or one of your major pre-reqs. keep in mind you need those 9 units to get into honors, you are already one step ahead of everyone since you are eligible for eng 1a already.

your registration starts at June 14 @ 2:00 PM. MEANING you are ONLY allowed to register starting at 2 pm on june 14. thats a late date. and i believe you must do orientation in order to register, so do so quickly.

yes call up connect 4 and find out more info. im pretty useless in most departments aside from honors haha.

regarding the AP credits, wait for AAWW00 to answer. he has more insight on that. and if he cant answer your questions…then go directly to the honors center and ask to speak with carolyn or linda.

regarding the picture identification, head into the fin aid department and show them a valid ID IE drivers license/passport. i dont think mailing it in is good enough, but could be wrong. if anything call the fin aid department and get ready to be put on hold for atleast 20 minutes.

@jetlogic - im glad you got that figured out instead of wasting a semester taking eng 68. good job. and with such high SAT scores, remind me why youre going to SAC again? lol

9 units is a lot more than you think. but you seem like you can handle it :)

btw. i just found out i have a bald spot from stress. yay… :(

What if I’m not in the Honors Program? Do I simply take English 1A? Also, the 9 units I’m referring to is throughout the year as well. How much units is one class (such as english 1a)? Thanks for the insight! Sorry for your bald spot :p

Also, the TAP program requires completion of most of your major’s pre-reqs. So say I want to do Biology. Does this mean I have to do most or all of the bolded courses listed here? <a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST;

So that’s 8 classes total?

if in fact you are doing bio, keep in mind it is an impacted major (meaning…there is a lot of competition), id recommend you finish ALLLLLLL major pre-reqs to make yourself much more competitive. so yes all 8.

the 9 units accumulated just have to be transferable units. eng 1A is 4 units already. lol. most GE classes are 3 units. big classes like MATH SCIENCE LANGUAGE are 4 units. so as you can see…9 is really easily attainable. if you are not in the honors program then go ahead and take eng 1A, its not a biggie.

i think you are looking at the wrong link

which school do you want to go to specifically?

here is UCLAs major pre-reqs for bio. you have to finish all of these on the right hand side. well you dont have to…but it would be MUCH better to if possible

[ASSIST Report: MTSAC 09-10 UCLA Articulation Agreement by Major](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

looks like you need quite a few.

@Dainese - I was accepted to my backups back East and waitlisted at my two top choices. I decided that instead of committing 4 years to a school I didn’t really want to attend I’d just do a year at a CCC and transfer out. Keep in mind that high testing scores don’t make up for my low cumulative GPA due to some personal issues in sophomore and the first half of my junior year. But, oh well. I’ll strive on ;D

:) go you haha!

best of luck with everything.

Thanks. Just hoping everything with scheduling goes as smooth as my Excel sheets show it to be in an ideal situation.

Oh, dear. Haha maybe I should rethink my major… Still don’t know what to do in life. xD

CruxSC, same here… rethinking my major as well…=(

u have time. dont worry. i was undeclared for a while. many people dont know for a long time. make sure its something you can enjoy, not tolerate.

btw…thanks everyone for keeping this thread alive haha.
i thought this thing would crash and burn the first week!
