yes and its been done. but its not easy and you will need a stellar application.

anybody taken the 4-series physics classes… can you tell me about your experience with the professors you’ve taken. im set to start them this coming fall.

thanks

I’m barely taking Physics 2A at this point, so I can’t say I have a lot of experience with the department…
But don’t take Daniel Anderson. He’s currently my professor and although he’s a really cool guy, he cannot teach physics at all. Everything I’ve learned thus far in the semester I’ve learned on my own through reading the book and going to SI sessions.

Wow, I’m amazed at how long this post been going on for. It’s always interesting to me to see people concerns and motivation to transfer from a CC to a university. I’m glad to see you accomplished from transferring to USC Dainese. People always make judgement about going to a CC as if it’s a bad thing, but when you prove them wrong it’s always satisfying (Ha). I wish all you guys the best of luck as I will also be starting my first year in a CC this following fall!

yea thsi thread has come quite a long way…
i think if u were to combine every thread/post in the community college section
it still wouldnt amount to this

gluck to you too. when they say time flies, it really does.

lol nice all the useful classes are full including waitlists for the summer. it would be nice if we had less super seniors and idiots from other districts polluting mt. sac when they could pollute their own local CC.

@vanquish - yea…it sucks. i really wish mtsac gave priority reg to honors but they dont ._.x

on another note…i visited mtsac today since im done with the semester.
the honors room is huge!!! ***!!! LOL. im so jealous haha
it looks like such a cool hang out place now.

anyways ill be at mtsac again on wednesday night for open mic night
to see some old friends and hang out.
if anyone happens to be there…well…just lmk if u go.

As an incoming freshman going to Mt. Sac. I wanted to get a head start by taking some summer classes (my registration opened today) but little did I know that every possible class would be full including the wait lists. :(

I had the intention of going to Mt. Sac for two years (or less if possible) and transferring to hopefully USC.

But by the way things look through trying to register for summer classes, would Mt. Sac Fall registration be as difficult for me and potentially not getting any classes I want for the Fall? Should I look into another community college?

I originally chose Mt. Sac as it is the closest CC to me and for the reputation it has for helping students transfer into their University of choice.

Also would it even be possible for me to get into any of the summer classes with this late of a registration date? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

@Noznev

you’d better apply for 3 more CCs. I’m not going to get your hopes up… you’re not going to get classes in your first fall semester unless you have some sort of priority registration. I REALLY doubt you’ll be able to get an open class… the best you’ll end up with is getting on waitlist and IF the professor is nice… he’ll add you in the class even at maximum capacity.

goodluck…

it will be extremely difficult to get classes as a freshman. but there is hope!!
you just need to be extremely patient and persistent in getting the classes you want.
but other CCs like PCC and OCC are much less impacted.

mtsac is so unbelievably packed…its quite a jungle really.
i believe there was a program from freshman to get priority on their first semester but i forgot what its called…someone else may know :(

other wise you will have to fight like everyone else unless u are an athlete for the school, have disabilities, or are a super senior, or student government.

@ noznev: What major are you? You will get classes…Maybe just not the ones you want…

Freshman priority program is called Connect 4, look it up/call admissions

Wow wasn’t expecting replies so quick!

@vanquishfire: No worries. I just submitted applications to a few other CC’s hopefully I can get in a few summer classes. Don’t want to spend my entire just working and waiting for Fall to come.

@Dainese: Mt. Sac does seem like a jungle, but I’m ready to put up a fight! haha. I plan on checking back on myportal daily/whenever I have free time to hopefully squeeze into a spot/ wait-list. If not, I will definitely be checking out other CC’s and taking classes there eventually earning enough credits to transfer to Mt. Sac (Can I do this??)and get an earlier registration date for Mt. Sac (As its the closest CC to me and wouldn’t want to keep commuting back from forth, which I’ll probably end up doing).
Unfortunately, I am not an athlete or have a disability or a super senior so I don’t think I can get priority registration through those ways and unless there is a way for me to get onto the student government without even taking a first class at Mt. Sac… I think that’s out of the question haha.
I have also heard of the Connect 4 program (Freshman Priority Program), but seeing as it’s been a year since I’ve graduated High School, I don’t believe I’m eligible.

@blackmamba2410: My major is Civil Engineering, but I do have the intent on hopefully transferring to USC. I kind of knew I wasn’t going to get the classes I wanted right off the bat…but didn’t know I wouldn’t get any at all haha(still hoping to squeeze into any though).

I plan on following the transfer guide given from the USC website (USC:Transfer Planning Guide) on what classes I want/need to take. Any tips on what I should do to beef up my future application?

I have also taken the assessments test and am eligible for English 1A/Math 180/Chem 50. (Is there anyway for me to transfer these scores to other CC’s, so I don’t have to keep retaking them) I noticed these are somewhat premier classes? So it looks like I won’t be able to get into them anytime soon.

wow nice job on the placement tests
as for trasnfering those scores to other CCs…i dont know. youll hafta ask the test department.

as for USC, and the same for any university…strong GPA in your repsective major, finishing most if not all requirements (for USC you dont have too), lots of extra curricular stuff, letters of recommendation, internships/research/volunteering, etc.

quite the same all around. get to knwo ur profs, its very crucial.
my gf was an astronomy major and love bragging about this because through MTSAC, a professor, she was able to meet the right people which landed her with an internship at JPL (NASA BABY!).

but either way, if you choose to go to mtsac. do the honors program. if you dont, you are wasting your time! its an easy boost to your application. make an appointment and speak with LINDA DIAZ. i cannot stress it enough…she will make your life 10000x easier! :D

let us know if u have more questions

hey guys… I have a question.

I want to join the honors program, but I don’t think I can finish “six” honors classes in time, so will taking one or two honors classes still look good on our applications? …or it’s just the same as taking a regular since I can’t finish the program on time.

What honors are you trying to take?

always better to complete it if u can, but my friend didnt and still got into cal majoring in communications i think…but she had a 3.9 as well

so Dainese…do you recommend taking the Honors classes? will it still make a difference than just taking a regular?

i dont know whether or not it will help you get accepted
but i would still take them for the experience. im still using stuff i learned from ENG1AH
and the smaller classes, i really enjoyed. i get lazy when there are a ton of students and the prof doesnt care…but when theres only 20 students or so, the prof will know ur absent and will ask what happened lol

i took the placement test for writing and i got english 67, sadly. i thought i did pretty good on it. anyways, would i still be about to transfer in two years because of this?

edit: also, what are the benefits of taking honor classes at mt sac?
