Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application:

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): History Honor Society (President), Doctors of Tomorrow (Vice President), Academic Decathlon (Treasurer), Speech and Debate, Mu Alpha Theta, Bhangra (Indian dance)
Job/Work Experience: N/A
Volunteer/Community service: Moffitt Cancer Center (204 hours), Hillsborough County Youth Leadership Council (34 hours), Relay For Life (40 hours), Museum of Science and Industry (33 hours)
Summer Activities: Volunteered at Moffitt mostly and took trips to other places
Essays: Wrote about how a failure at a Speech and Debate competition and being unable to ask a girl out in freshman year made me change myself and overcome my timid nature. Might have been average I guess.
Teacher Recommendation: Math Teacher, History Teacher. I didn’t see the recommendations but my math teacher was also my homeroom teacher and Extended Essay advisor so I think he knew me well. My history teacher liked me, but I heard afterward that his recommendations are bad.
Counselor Rec: Didn’t see it but I think it will be all right because I had to provide a form discussing everything about myself.
Additional Rec: Bhangra (Indian dance) coach. Saw his recommendation, it was awesome.
Interview: N/A
Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Biology and Political Science
State (if domestic applicant): Florida
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: IB Magnet High School
Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: >200K
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I thought the fact that I did bhangra was pretty unique.

Reflection

Strengths: Class Rank, GPA, Extracurriculars, Community Service, Good History credentials, High SAT II scores except bio
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself:
Weaknesses: Essay is average. Recommendation from history teacher might have been bad. SAT Reading score is pretty low (I’m really bad at reading in general), SAT Bio score low. Not enough national competition awards like USAMO or something like that.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Maybe because my major has a lot of people just like me and my SAT bio score is low. I have more history credentials than science credentials.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: USF, UCF, FSU, UTampa, FAU, Tulane (Tulane is #38 which is same exact rank as Northeastern)
Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application: I thought bhangra was unique.

I was really disappointed that I got deferred. It was the first school I was not accepted to. I thought I would have been accepted, especially since I got into Tulane Honors and received the highest scholarship of $32,000

What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I wanted to seem well-rounded???

Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Rejected Northwestern ED, waiting on two more EAs and submitting two RDs soon
Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application: Probably my ECs and the commitment that I showed towards doing things I really enjoy.

Reflection
Felt fairly good about this application. Figured my chances were around 40%. I love Northeastern a lot it is just a matter if they can afford it. For some reason my Northeastern EFC is about 2+x my FASFA EFC which was already stretching things.

Strengths:
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself:
Weaknesses: Not a lot of formal awards, or official club positions.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I had what I think is an incredible resume.
Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application: App developer, independent study coder, music experience and composing.

Advice:
Dabble in the field you are interested if at all possible. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve a formal club like a robotics team just come up with a project and do it or do some informal research on something that is curious to you. It shows initiative and care for the field you are going into.

It’s not letting me log into my portal. I tried three different browsers AND my phone and it still won’t log me in. Can someone help?

No one here can help but call admissions when they open.

Reflection

Strengths: test scores
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: uhhhh idk
Weaknesses: physics sat
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: tbh idk. I think I was one of 2 kids accepted early by Northeastern, everyone else I know who applied (including people who got into other top schools and have better stats than me) was deferred surprisingly. I thought I was going to get deferred. also i thought they only gave scholarships up to 25k so i’m a little confused
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted into Penn State and ED Cornell, so I won’t be attending Northeastern (results came out before I had a chance to withdraw my app). It was one of my top choices though, and if I wasn’t accepted by Cornell I probably would’ve gone to NU unless somewhere else gave me more money
