Official Northwestern class of 2017 RD thread

Rejected…idk I’m trying to stay positive, but I still have 9 more decisions to go. Hoping for Duke and johns Hopkins!

@lilyy96. Rejection is hard to handle but you are right to try to stay positive. This whole college admission process is akin to a lottery. There are simply too many well qualified candidates for the limited number of places available. Why one person is chosen over another will always remain a mystery to us on the outside looking in. This I can say with certainty, I have been blown away by the quality of many NU applicants that were rejected yeterday. In my view, quality wins out in the end and eventually you will be accepted by another fine school where you have a great college experience and make a great contribution to that institution. Congrats to all who were accepted. Be proud of your achievement. To those rejected, hold your heads up high - you have much to be proud of too.

Very well said, Worth2Cents. I completely echo your views.

@LuvMyMezzo, Congrats to your D! She’ll love it at NU :)

@Worth2Cents, well said. Gives me hope for today and the coming week

My S finally got his email. It’s his third wait list at a top school. The others were MIT and UChicago (no rejections yet). He has 3.97 UW GPA and 2340 SAT with 5 AP scores of 5. Very good ECs too. I can only conclude that it was his essays. Congrats to everyone with acceptances!

@rishav, congratulations!!! I got in too :smiley: Maybe we’ll see each other around on campus (assuming they give us both enough aid) (:

I was rejected<\3 but I knew how hard it was to get accepted to NU so I was prepared for this. I’m pretty sure my mom is more devastated! haha. I’m going to work hard at U of I and maybe I just might study at Medill for grad school! Congrats to everyone who was accepted, and to those who weren’t, keep your heads up!(:

@Rolando4 - U of I is brilliant too!! :smiley:
These decisions are random sometimes, so you have to make the best of what you get!!

@icepulse - Congrats!! :smiley:
Aid is the only thing now between me & NU :D

Btw, did anyone get any further communication from NU after the acceptance??

@rishav Yeah, same here. My fingers are crossed on this- how cruel to be so excited to have received the okay to be able to go, only to be held back because of financial prospects. Ahahaha.

Sorry about the WLs, lulumama. Hang in there.

It is becoming increasingly harder with every passing year to get acceptance to the top schools here. If this trend persists, the reverse scenario will occur…US students in increasing numbers will start applying to universities abroad.

Decision: DD Rejected

Reflection

Strengths: strong, increasingly difficult course load. Straight A’s Fall of Senior year in all APs; Significant, demonstrated leadership in many roles at school and in the community.
Weaknesses: SAT. Only one 5 in AP testing. (DD not a good standardized test taker)

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Unsure. Is it NU’s heavy emphasis on 5’s on AP tests and SAT/ACT scores (?)

General Comments: Not surprised at the rejection in a way.Yet thought NU might consider her more well rounded than most of the current students we encountered on our 2 visits to this campus.
Already accepted at: UVA, U Michigan with scholarship, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA.

How/when does NU relay FA information? We really want to push the GO button, but we’d like to have some idea what it will cost. Any info in this greatly appreciated! (BTW, congrats on acceptances at those other awesome schools!)

@Irishcalifmama - You meant 1990 right? on the SAT?

@tougis - Same question here!! Haha!! Monday I guess. Maybe tuesday!! With the spring break on - you really can’t say.

Rishav, do you know how do they give this info? Is it snail mail?

Never mind. I just found this on the F.A. site:

Admitted Freshmen
Applicants offered admission for the 2013-2014 academic year who completed all of the required financial aid materials by the March 5 deadline will be able to access their financial aid award information online beginning the evening of April 1.

Ahh. That late!! :/

So now I’m tensed once again for Ivy day!!

Did you find anything about follow up emails and stuff??
And does anyone(maybe the EDers can help, Crimstonstained7 maybe?) know if NU sends an acceptance packet via postal mail?? It would be really awesome if they did! :D

The NU acceptance email indicates that it will be followed up by a packet.

Anyone else get no email yet still?
