Looking at their Common Data Set from last year,
2752 were waitlisted
1760 accepted a place on the waitlist
9 were eventually admitted
Ouch.
Rejected as expected 
but congrats to those who got in!

I’m curious as to whether everyone got the same rejection letter. Can some other people tell me the basic gist of what your letter said?

ACCEPTED TO NU AND UCHICAGO IS THIS REAL LIFE
I got rejected, but, in the letter, they wrote something along the lines of “it was a hard decision considering your family’s ties to Northwestern”. None of my family members went to college in America, especially not at Northwestern. I think I might have gotten someone else’s decision or they were careless in attaching the wrong rejection letter. I just emailed my counselor and she’s going to check on it.
My rejection said:
Dear xxx:
The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of applicants to Northwestern University. I am sorry we are unable to offer you a place in the first-year class.
Given the relatively small size of the incoming class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern. You should not feel our decision reflects negatively on you or your potential as a college student. We simply are unable to admit all of the students who present a solid record of achievement.
The task of selecting a class is a difficult one for the admission committee. We carefully reviewed every piece of information you submitted with your application. Unfortunately, we cannot provide explanations about individual admission decisions; however, A Statement from the Dean, linked to this letter, may answer some of your questions about our selection process.
The admission committee appreciates the time and effort you put into applying to Northwestern. I wish you every success as you pursue your education.
DS got rejected, first UG rejection. He applied for HPME but didn’t get interview. So they know he is applying to BSMD programs. Anyway, he was planning to go given his other admissions.
@esalinasgt Same as my letter; do you feel like you’re qualified but still didn’t get in or is it just a generic letter?

son got accepted. Engineering and Applied Science. totally shocked! we all thought he would get denied.
To those who were waitlisted, such as myself: Do you plan to accept the waitlist offer or withdraw and enroll somewhere else?
I haven’t gotten an email yet…should I be concerned?
