Official Notre Dame Waitlist News Thread

ndwannabe- same boat, looks like i’ll be seeing you at Michigan! (my nd alum parents are thrilled…)

wow…hahah

well putting aside vandy (even though i still have hope  ) : if anyone hears from their counselors about ND abandoning the wl please post it here! I would like to hear this information from more than just one source before I give up altogether.

ps. 1cookie I am so sorry about ND! But I am sure we will both have an amazing time at Mich I think it is impossible not to!

yeah, some good news would be so welcome right now haha

Today I learned that Notre Dame was likely not going to the waitlist and my girlfriend was thinking seriously of breaking up with me. Not a good day. However, my girlfriend has decided our relationship was worth some more work at improvement, so call me an idealist, but I think a couple rosaries might help swing this one the right way too. I would encourage no one to give up hope until there is a small envelope waiting in your mailbox. Until that moment, we’ve all got a shot.

I e-mailed my regional counselor last night asking about the status of the waitlist and this was part of her response:

“At this point, we are looking very strong in terms of confirms and it is likely we will not go to the waitlist. We should have a clearer picture in the next week, however, regarding where we stand. Typically, we enroll at least 50-100 students from our wait list. This has been an unusual year and despite the fact that we were more selective than any other year in history, it is also true more students have opted to turn down other top choice schools and come to Notre Dame.”

:(

Aww that story made me smile toast! I admire your attitude! And actually Mtoad I view that as being more optimistic than most of the other responses we have heard. However, I think we can all agree that the likelihood of them going to the waitlist is extremely small and clearly even if they do they will only need a very small number of students. It may be time to start getting enthusiastic about the schools where we are accepted, at least until we hear better news.

I know it doesn’t seem like it for many of you right now, but there are tons of great schools out there other than Notre Dame. You will still have a great time at another institution if ND doesn’t go to the waitlist. The most important thing right now is to network with people at your current institution so you aren’t left on the outside looking in come august.

toast, thankk you for the inspiration. I am definitely keeping my head upp and staying optimistic. We still have a chance! No one has said no officially yet. Hawkswim09, i agree with you too; we do need to focus on where we have enrolled, because it may be God’s plan to go to that school, so we must make the best of it!! :)

Counselor said they thought they would take an extremely small number of people from the waiting list. I think things may be looking up a bit, however slight. Keep hope!

SMILE!
That is incredible news. It is the best news we have heard all day!
:D

do you think it varies by region what counselors tell students?
i hear demographics and interest level are two of the biggest considerations when they look at the wait list.

I honestly have no idea. I know that this year, as in past years, there is slightly different information circulating. I am curious also as to the differences, though I don’t want anyone to lose hope based upon whether they think they may be overrepresented in the incoming class. I don’t think there is any way to know that information. Best to be optimistic. Annekk, I would encourage you to shoot an email to your counselor and see what their response is. That would be a better answer than anything I could give.

I imagine that some admissions counselors prefer to be conservative in estimating such things and others prefer to be optimistic. If they had the same pre-waitlist yield as last year, they would have around 50 spots left. Since it sounds like a slightly better yield than last year, the number will likely be somewhat smaller. So 0-50 does sound reasonable given the information that has been conveyed.

So basically… the calls should be going out tomorrow 0.o

You know this?

My understanding is it does matter what region you live in for the waitlist. Like toast, S is from N CA too. defer/WL… Hoping they will update everyone next week.

I don’t think that calls will be going out tomorrow…My counselor said they would have a better idea of whether or not they would go to the waitlist next week, so I’m thinking this time next week at the very soonest or if at all…

Oh ok, I wasn’t sure they counselor just said that they would review until Wednesday, which is today. But mtoad may be right

Actually, I would love it if calls came today or tomorrow so we could have some very happy news, though until someone actually recieves one, I think we’ll all just be stuck by the phones waiting.

No calls today?
